Saying Rudan is a ‘one off’ or that no other NPL coach would make it is just a guess, same as all those who guessed that Rudan would fail.

@Jimo8

I agree. It’s a romantic notion there’s plenty of part-time NPL coaches out there waiting to step up but there probably isn’t, and the risk on taking a gamble is huge - unless Roar want to be like CCM and cuddle the bottom of the ladder for a while.

It’s just another reason for a Div 2. More professional coaches.

Davies has done 3 games in his first 9 days, the first game within 24 hours of taking over and by the end of February Roar should know what he’s like as a head coach.

If he’s good enough they can shift the search to a TD and new assistant coach. If not, that long-list of nearly 40 candidates comes into play.

Is Rudan that good though? 4 out of their 5 wins have only been against the bottom 4 teams.

Waz, I’d gamble on a guy who had successfully developed young players and won titles for years in lower leagues before I’d gamble on a guy with no experience who scored a famous penalty.

@ clockwork

So would I

My feeling though is, having gambled the last time on a tv pundit with a famous playing (moment) background, that now is not the time to roll the dice one more time.

That phrase “Gamble Responsibly” should be tattooed on Pourees forehead.

Internationally there should be some good picks. We keep talking about Asian players but why not an Asian coach? Japan and Korea must have plenty.

Internally it looks to be Darren Davies or no one,

Domestically there’s no one I’d be keen on personally although Rudan has had a good start he’s yet to prove himself over time.

Is there another Rudan out there? The NPL has some possibilities but I’d hope they’d stick local if they are searching.

And then there’s the assistants in other HAL clubs, including Trani and Rado although those last two dont seem to have head coach capability.

I just hope they run a good process. Can’t help thinking Aloisi was taken on very lightly the last time.

Davies may have improved the way we play, but the serious problem of defence still exists.
Remember its easier to play pretty and score goals if you dont worry about defence.
Unless he can stop us conceding 2 goals a game ,he really isnt taking Roar anywhere.
I'm not saying he isnt a good coach.Just the defence hasn't improved and yes his defenders are thin on the ground except for one experienced ex Socceroo.

As I’ve said before, of the assistant coaches, I like Hayden Foxe’s CV. Only question mark would be his ability to adapt to ‘the Roar way’ rather than ‘the Poppa way’.
Then again, there’s nothing to say he’d be any better than Davies.

@ crimson

I was going to post something similar but then realised it’s only been a week - it feels like three weeks because of the number of games he’s had lol.

If he can’t find a way to shut the back door with games against City, WSW, Nix and Adelaide coming up (all not strong in attack) then it’s questionable whether he’s the right man.

If he is having his hands tied by someone in not playing Devere and given the players available, it's a pretty tough ask for him to completely fix up the defence. With Papa back, it should be doable, but I can't find any mention of how long he is out for.

If Davies is smart, he'll be trying his best to find a marquee CB who can command the backline and stop us leaking goals.

the problem with giving him the 6 weeks that you are suggesting is that we have 16 players coming off contract. that is 16 players that the coach has to make a decision on and find replacements. with no decision on head coach, players will be unlikely to want to sign here, with WMG coming into existence it is not a good time to be needing to find 3/4 of a squad.

the process should be started immediately. we should have it down to 2-3 candidates, with all negotiations with them essentially complete, ready to make a decision within 3-4 weeks. DD should be included with these discussions and if he wants the job 4 weeks should be enough to see if he has what it takes. we cant afford to sail into the end of the season with no decision made and have to compete with WMG and the rest of the league to fill 16 spots.

Holy shit. How much you bet he gets a red or get injured just to make the fan happy.

But it was getting silly given our defensive situation.

Its quite stupid its even taken this long for him to be selected, let along come in just because Bowels is missing.

Still two to be omitted, he may not even make it, have Nigro there as well.

Unless Roar have someone lined up already it’s going to take 10-16 weeks to appoint someone any way so the risk is there.

And let’s be honest, within the current squad how many are must re-signs? Bautheac...? Any more??

Jacob Pepper, Aaron Reardon and Connor O'Toole are believed to be in line to fill Brisbane's two centre-back spots against City.

Asked why DeVere had not played yet, Davies said: "I don't think that is for the public forum to be honest.

"But Luke is training well, he is a good professional.

"We pick a team on a game to game basis."

Damian Mori has been coaching for a decade in Adelaide. From what I hear a few years back he has been going well.

He'll get the lads to shoot for goal from kick off lol.

It depends Mr. B

If DeVere has been a complete arse and isn’t pulling his weight then they can’t go public otherwise the PFA will smash them.

We all of course are blaming Ross 😂

Squad is out and Devere has been promoted into the squad.

I guess it answers the question of what was keeping Devere out of the team.

The reporting by the media on the goings on at the Roar are abysmal.  Marco and his journo mates really need to start practicing journalism and write some articles that may interest the fans.

It just doesn't make sense,

Davies says he doesn't think its for the public forum as to why Devere hasn't been picked but then says hes training well, is a professional and picks the team week to week.

So whats the problem? Training well but somehow hes not good enough to even make the bench over Pepper, Reardon and Otoole.

Another season down the drain.

I don’t know what to believe with DeVere. I’ve asked everyone I can but those who know are saying nothing but platitudes and the media have ignored requests (Marco, Bozza, Vince) to find out what’s going on.

Informally there’s a couple of people telling me he is unfit, he’s a bit “like glass” and scared of another injury ... and I’ve read others that claim to know that he is fit and raring to go.

So who knows.

Seeing all this speculation is here about Devere, and no one seems to be able to shed any light at all on why he is not being picked, can I throw another thought (completely without any evidence or suspicion, purely dreamed up by me) into the mix?
Has he been "playing away" with a team mate's partner maybe?

10-16 weeks is an absolute joke (not saying they wont take that long or longer to do it though). they have a list of 40+ people interested right now. say they can throw half out immediately as not qualified (dont have the right licences) they can probably narrow that down to a 10 man actual shortlist of people that will be in the right price range and have a decent enough philosophy right now. 3 weeks is plenty of time to probe deeper into their philosophies (they can also use that time to identify any other suitable candidate that hasn't immediately put their hand up but may be interested. 3 further weeks is plenty of time to hash out 3 contracts. it is a football club, they should not be completely caught out by this given the nature of managers. they should absolutely be aiming to have it all sorted as soon as possible.

i would say that Lopez, Eric, Calettie, Papa and DWH are must keeps and the rest are up to whoever takes over.
