@robstazzz

At the start of the season they couldn’t know the significance of this game, although twice in less than three weeks is criminal.

Whatever it is out west, Glory are having trouble getting back their old NSL crowds and if there’s a time to figure out how to do it now is the time, while they’re being successful.

I understand what you're saying but I simply don't think we should have any midweek games. There's really no need for it when we have one of the longest off season in the world. Perth v Sydney on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday would have got more than 9k and Adelaide v Melbourne Victory would have sold out.
FFA really need to wake the fuck up and improve on next season's fixture list because in past and present it's simply been shit. Especially the last 2 seasons where it's been shocking.
I do agree with you 100% that Perth could do more to find out why they don't have more people attending but that's got nothing to do with simple fixture mistakes that are happening so constantly these days.

They have the midweek fixtures now in order to help out the ACL teams with their travel (hence why both Victory and Sydney were playing last night) later in the season - a necessary evil if we want our ACL teams to do well.

So why is it that we have other games played on midweek where no clubs are involved in ACL?
Fair enough for those competing in ACL but Western Sydney v Wellington and many more were also midweek games.

Midweek games are part of football all over the world, it is vital to maintain TV presence, and interest, particularly during the holidays. People pretty much want football 24/7 these days, If it affects crowds, too bad, once our league matures and genuine interest and supporter rituals are established, it will be less of a problem.

Midweek games around the world make sense considering how long their season goes for. Players around the world have about 3 months max off when their season is done, we on the other hand have 6 months. That's way too much and this space can be filled up by having games only played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until our league grows to a point where it is needed.
I have no problem with ACL teams playing midweek games that's fine when there's a purpose behind it.
If fox need more content they could start off by having a Monday night 1hr show of not only highlights from the weekend but live interviews with players, and another 1h Thursday night show again with players and or managers previewing the weekend games coming ahead. That's 5 days of football out of a possible 7.

I think it's the $32.50 for General Admission that is stopping bigger crowds. Should be no more than $20

As an aside: As our code continues to chase these boutique out of the way stadia with no other tenants, ticket prices will only go up across the board, not down

I remember when MV played every game at Etihad. You could get off at the train station and walk stright to the ground and get in for $20. Then when AAMI Park was built ticket prices were $5 higher, and MV fans were charged $2 more than Heart fans

AAMI Park may have been rectangular and built for football, and had people sitting closer, but Etihad continues to attract more for convenience and price even though it is essentially a footy ground

Personally I'd pay $5 extra and go to AAMI Park. Worth every dollar. Having said that the ticket pricing should be same for Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City but my guess is they might get a cheaper rate at AAMI Park because they play every single home game there unlike Melbourne Victory.
Overall though I just wish I had the numbers for stadium hire for each and every club, because personally I still believe having cheaper affordable tickets will bring in more revenue overall anyways, and most importantly keep fans happy and keep them coming back.

But if your talking about increasing interest across the board you need to look at what the collective wants, not what the individual wants

You may want to pay more to be in a purpose built stadium and close to the action, but for the majority of sports goers its about accessibility and price more than number of people rubbing against them

I saw a tweet about high demand for the Nix game this weekend. You would think the crowd will be bigger than 10k since they are playing so well.

It doesnt work that way. That assumes that all fans are bandwagoners and they indiscriminately follow any sport as long as the team is winning

We have seen top to bottom drops result in a 30% loss. Therefore you can loosely say:
. Winning team 100%
. Middle team 85%
. Poor team 70%

The main factors from one season to the next is often number of big games such as derbies / rivalries, scheduling, alternative sports options, weather, players, attractiveness of opposition team (particularly as some fans might only choose 2-5 games a year), natural churn of interest in the league, etc....

Wellington's highest attendance last season, with an extra 30%, is just over 10k. So thats what you can expect under the same circumstances if they were destroying the league

while i do think there is a place for the occasional midweek game, your point is completely valid. we don't need midweek games when we have such a long offseason. I'm pretty sure all the teams have 2 midweek games this season, but we may as well just start 2 weeks earlier. I've been saying for years the season should start after the september international break anyway.

City would have to get far cheaper rent because they never open level 2 at AAMI Park (excluding derbies).

Don’t have a problem with midweek football especially over the holiday period.
When scheduled correctly it can be successful.
I just wouldn’t put high drawing fixtures on during the week when it could be a premium clash on a fri and sat night.

Melbourne Victory   + 4063
Brisbane Roar   + 2498
Sydney FC   + 2126
Melbourne City   + 676
Perth Glory   + 553
Wellington Pheonix   + 418
Central Coast Mariners   + 143
Adelaide United   - 678
Newcastle Jets   - 1487
Western Sydney Wanderers - 2028

I know it's still early and judging on the way crowds are heading we'll end up with worse results by seasons end, however this is what the increases and decreases look like for each club compared to last season. I didn't include any regional games which means it would be an even bigger decrease for WSW but those numbers are all home games for each club.
7 increases out of a possible 10 show signs our league is on the rise 😂 Now I feel like a David Gallop trying to brainwash people into thinking all is good 😂
