It did not look like 18k on tv

Cameras point forward and film what is in front of them. Each stadium has a broadcast side

AFLW at Geelong 18400

What will West Melbourne get?

I wonder how many people A league teams would get if our games were free, like your games are.

But that shows the difference between the business understanding of each code

AFL: Launches the AFLW out of a bigger bucket and gets people to the games free. Win for the game
A League: Waiting until a fully professional second division that pays for itself can be found before establishing a second tier

Also, it isnt guarenteed that free tickets means a bigger crowd. Look at GWS for example. If the interest isnt there then neither are the fans. I doubt 18k people turned up to watch something they didnt like because it was free

It is all so easy when you have $2 billion to waste on a competition only thought up to keep girls away from the Matilda's.
It is also very easy for AFL to do anything with cheerleading fans in the media, free promotion, but you want football to have a 2nd division.  When for 40 years no one from the NSL or A league had the will or means to establish one.

They actually got 10k and the match was abandoned due to 200mil of rain and they 21k get tickets but obviously due to the weather only half turned up.

They do have the means. If there can be a national youth league then there can be a national second tier because thats all that is required. One to replace the other

When you look at the PFA model of $5m fully professional second tier clubs you can see why we dont have one yet

The standard of the 2nd division has to be way above the NYL and to do that costs much more than the NYL.

Can they use a transfer market? Can they negotiate a tv deal? Can they organise their own sponsorship?

That is such a bullshit cop out statement.

The 2nd division is intended to be better than the NPL which is way better than the NYL in the bigger states.  If it's not it's pointless.  The cost of the 2nd division will be greater than the NPL and way more than the NYL.  The AAFC indicated a $2.5m budget.  If clubs can't find that sort of money then I doubt they will be selected for the 2nd division.

If a second division the standard of the youth league gets us a second division then why not? Obviously it will grow over time

The only thing pointless was this post. Of course a player scrapping in the NYL would prefer to play first team football. And it's not up to the league it's up to the club.

Stop making stupid restrictions on clubs.

I haven't placed any restrictions on 2nd division clubs.  The context of my posts is Bluebird again wanting to close off the NYL and have the 2nd division initially be NYL quality and cost.  That certainly doesn't satisfy what the AAFC is talking about in their Championship document.  I simply agree that a budget of $2.5m as proposed by the AAFC is of the right order.  NPL teams in Sydney operate on budgets over $600k already so operating a club above that standard in a national competition will cost way above the cost of operating a NYL team in a competition lower than the NPL.

Nagorotto has been appointed the chair of the committee by the FFA board and the committee work is supposed to feed into the NLWG process so it has to start its work soon because the members of the NLWG have been named.
