“will be interesting to see if next weeks top of the table clash can reach 40k ”
Jesus.
Can you even imagine writing that 5 years ago.
Actually, could you imagine it last year?

Geez, those numbers are dire. But to be honest they are not surprising, I have been talking about the falling fan engagement at grassroots and general spectator level for 2 years and unfortunately it is still happening. One of the guys at work was an MV nut and regularly traveled to interstate matches 3 years ago, now he doesnt travel and attends half the MV home games. Similar story with the kids at the club, 3 years ago there was excitement, banter, interest around the HAL, now barely anything. Unfortunately there is nothing on the horizon to improve and again talking from personal experience only, there is zero excitement and discussion around the WMG so dont expect this to add any spark. I imagine current RV deal is safe as contract is locked in, next one is a problem and you would need to ask if you were fox, would you spend $40M on HAL or a fraction of that on Peppa Pig (which rates higher).

The 2 aflw games got 57k and 50k respectively, the ffa would kill for those figures now.

WOW paulc has many accounts. What a loser. Anyway, it doesn't diminish the argument, in fact, it shows that among the many options, A-League is not people's preferred option, nor does it make the quality any better. For Bluebird. I think you are thinking about the MyFootball app.

+xSo Geelong v Collingwood women’s had a total viewership well over 300k? Sheesh. Plus regional, so over 400K. And free streaming. The best thing out there to judge Kayo interest on is Google trends: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%203-m&geo=AU&q=kayo%20cricket,kayo%20aleague,kayo%20afl,kayo%20socceroos,kayo%20nrlThe massive spike is for the ODI of Aus v India on January 12. Here's general Kayo searches: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%203-m&geo=AU&q=kayo,kayo%20sports,kayo%20foxtelThe only spike that is soccer related is probably January 6 for Socceroos vs Jordan. It otherwise spiked heavily for the ODIs, start of Tests and Saturdays of BBL (exclusive to Fox) Which is backed up here: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%203-m&geo=AU&q=kayo%20loginAnd the Socceroos got a VPM of about 9K, only A-League VPM I can find is 3K which is pre-Kayo. So while some people are watching the A-League on streams, there's little evidence of them doing it in huge numbers or at a much higher rate relative to watching a traditional broadcast.

+xFor Bluebird. I think you are thinking about the MyFootball app. Nope. It wasnt listed on their website when I last looked (when the thread was last active here) and a contact within Kayo confirmed they didnt have the rights Things must have changed since then

Foxtel is a shambles at the best of times.

+xSyd v mcy and 3 aflw games not in Foxtel top 20, under 36k. AFLW has lost its novelty. It's about quality and there isn't any of it tbf. Very little flow.

I wonder aloud if we are witnessing the start or some would say continuation of a change in sporting tastes from traditional sports, say Union, League, Football, Cricket, Basketball AFL in Australia's case, car racing, dog racing, horse racing etc ....to E-games and X-sports [i.e cage fighting, surfing, BMX etc]...
Using myself as an example, until about the mid 90's I watched a lot of cricket, my guess is in the last few years I doubt I have watched a single over.... I was glued to watching Bathurst, took an interest in the Melbourne club, took an interest in the Wallabies, would watch the odd game of league this like grand finals, and if bored the Friday night match..
Today I don't watch any sport aside from the A-League, Socceroo's and EPL ...
If you go back in time to the turn of the last century, around 1900... the big sports where all individual like running, boxing, cycling, tennis, snooker etc ... in the 60's with TV team sports provided content and team sports of established sports took over as number one from individual sports..
With high rise living, kids not playing in the street, net etc and the incredible rise of E-games ... like will the FIFA E-game be watched more than real games...
AS to our own rating... there is no magic fix, there is no system we can put in place that will suddenly get the mob excited ..
IMO we have the answer but in Australia we will never implement it ... as not enough believe it as it goes against what they think the answer is ... which is a large part of the problem there are so many people who think they have the answer .... the simple answer as the starting point is for everyone to talk the game up rather than down...that is the circuit breaker from there we rebuild our systems...

+xConfirmed by soccer stoppage time, one of the newspapers had hinted it as well. I believe the figure offered was around $80 million to get out. its my understanding that Fox offered the FFA $79 million to walk away 12 months ago. the FFA rejected it. as for the AFLW, you will find that the TV ratings started strongly in the first 2 seasons due to the bogans wanting their AFL fix, but 3-4 weeks in, they realised how crap the quality was and stopped watching. by the end of the season the ratings had dipped below HAL levels. the same will happen here. Round 1 AFLW crowds are already down 20% compared to round 1 2018.
