Only in England and Australia. Wake up. Who else you going to play in tests? THAT'S MY POINT!

You will have noone else to play against, because you do not know the first thing about how the global game is funded.

All you talk about is Australia this and Australia that. Well who is Australia going to play?

Kerry Packer knew he had the same problem, so he bought the West Indies and a World Team as well... cos you need someone to play against... And he knew he would have to keep buying further opposition cos that would get stale. And he gave the audiences what they wanted, night limited overs cricket...

Pre Packer the staid men running Test cricket still ruled. Even post Packer as the Packerites were banned from playing Test cricket. Those same staid men knew that Test cricket could not survive unless they relented and allowed the rebels back into the fold. Paddles money ruled the game even back then. How do we save Test cricket now?

They will clash next season. Finally on Oz soil.. first time in how long? Looking forward to it.

2015/16 there was a home and away test series.

There is no NZ hosted series until 2023 --- if not longer...

I'm not looking forward to it I'm afraid. To be honest, NZ should not be in Aus over Xmas. Ever.

I do hope this is the last time NZC do something stupid like this. Go earlier, go later, but never go there over the Holidays when they should be in NZ. SA and Aus play Boxing Day and New Years at home, ridiculous that NZ is on tour during this period. Absolutely stupid!

The only thing saving test cricket right now, and grew it to begin with to include SL, Bang, Zim, now Ire and Afg, as well as make Pak, Ind and NZ more competitive was the World Cups. Without them, it would never have happened. The cash injection was sorely needed. For India - it was also the fan interest generated in 1983 on colour tv.

Test cricket is in no position to compete with limited overs - if its one or the other - limited overs is king.

Test cricket will only survive as long as the players and administrators want to play it, but more importantly that the fans do not demand even more limited overs cricket.

In Australia, there is a steady supply of BBL during the test season, that keeps everyone happy from a viewing perspective - just makes replacement selection more difficult for Aus. Catch 22.

The issue will be more in India and England. If the Hundred takes off in England, with a return to 10 games on the BBC - that could knock test cricket around for them in 10 to 15 years if it snowballs to people wanting more and more pyjama cricket. India, if they want to grow the IPL, Asia Cups, and billateral limited overs tours - may do it at the expense of test cricket there.

England has a huge year for cricket this year, an Ashes and World Cup. But next year, is far more important for the future English cricket.

Why so much hope on The Hundred? England started T20 back in the early 2000s.. where is the goldmine from that?

18 counties?

They do get good crowds at them. But small grounds and all.

But there's been no tv coverage of the games for the most part. Just 1 a weekend and the finals day (they play 2 semis and final on one day at same ground)...

So there's no money in it... Nor does it bring fans into the game because its all behind a paywalll....

Then the Poms blew what could have been a decent "cash cow" for the sport.

I recall the T 20 Champions League..think that was it.. the best club teams in the game meeting once a year for a lucrative purse. This was popular among the players and as far as I could tell the fans too. I expect part of that lucrative purse would have been channelled back into grass roots cricket in the state of the winner. Can it be revived?

The Champions League was owned mostly by the BCCI who controlled it,  and favoured IPL teams. Foreign players had to play for IPL teams, and half the finals teams were IPL teams. NSW and Sixers did well. But IPL teams dominated.

But the Champions League didn't make the money BCCI had hoped for. Indians didn't watch the non Indian qualifying games.

BCCI replaced it with hosting more intls at home in September/October instead.

England only participated half the time due to season clash.

I chuckled when I read how rising quick Jhye Richardson keeps himself motivated during a game.. He scribbles messages on his shoes.
https://www.cricket.com.au/news/unique-shoe-messages-jhye-richardson-kiss-ruthless-australia-india-odi-series/2019-02-16. Could the skilful right armer also be a KISS fan?

His BBL figures were bettered by several but some in the know are talking about Josh Philippe as their bolter for the WC. Dizzy Gillespie even has him making the Ashes squad out of the A side. The kid is still inconsistent but his two knocks in the finals for the Sixers proved he has the temperament for the big time.  Some of his knocks in the Shield last season and again in his 100 this season shows he is special. I love his precociousness, the confidence with which he takes on the moving ball with sublime timing. His lofted drives off the spinners reminds me of a younger more brash Steve Smith. So people dont be surprised if Philippe is handed a national call up sooner rather than later.

Does Australian cricket need Warner? He has brought  disrepute on our great game yet CD looks certain to rush him back into the fold once his sentence is done. Should Warner be an Ashes certainty.  His @37 is not exactly shabby given English conditions nor is it outstanding. More moderate.

Respected Pom Michael Vaugan feels Warner.. if he plays.. should move down the order to accommodate two of the three openers who are currently tearing up the Shield.. Bancroft, Burns and Harris. I still have not written off Renshaw.. the most promising.. imho.. of the lot. He is a born opener from the old school. I still maintain he and Bancroft will be our long term men to see off the new ball. Renners is in a sorry form slump but he is too good for this to last. CA know this and should pick him to open for the Oz A red ball matches alongside Bancroft. So Warner moves down the order. Smith is a must in the middle order. So who makes way for Warner? Patterson looks a 100 Test man ..so he is in my top six. Head or Labuchagne or both to go.. Comments.

I did not get any feedback from this. This graph is an easier way to read the best against the Dukes ball the past two yrs.

Matthew Renshaw 654 runs @73 (1 yr)
Hilton Cartwright 932 @58. (2yr)
Moie Henriques 802 @ 57. (2yr)
Kurtis Patterson 698 @46.5. (2yr).

With ball:
Nick Winter 34 ( 1yr)
Chris Tremain 44 (2yr)
Trent Copeland, Mike Neser, Simon Mackin 34 (2yr)
Dan Worrall 31 (2yr)

There is talk the Dukes 3 yr experiment is over and CA is about to can it. I say do not just because a few blokes say they can not grip it. What a load of....  The six bowlers above are not among them I suspect. What must happen is for the Dukes to be used for the entire 10 Shield rounds preceding the 4 yearly England Ashes tour....... comments

Yes, but as I have pointed out previously, but you seem to have forgotten, on cricket.com.au the 4 day match against Gloucestershire has been changed to two one day games. And yes it is a possibility Australia A will play England A but it has not been confirmed so cannot be counted yet.

The facts are 5 one day games, 1 3 day game and 1 4 day game against Australia.

So please get your facts correct so I do not have to repeat myself again.

Why change a much more important 4 day game for two pyjama ones. Bloody joke when it is red ball cricket we need leading into the Ashes.  Is this CA or  the Pom clubs decision?

No idea why it was changed, perhaps it was always going to be two one day games but cricinfo got it wrong. Unusual for them to make a mistake like this but it is only a minor tour so it has been overlooked.

I like a bowling side of starc cummins lyon and zampa for odi's

Stoinis doing a decent job down the order helps

I'd go for the wc

Warner
Short
Lynn
Smith/Marsh
Maxwell
Stoinis
Handscomb (wk)
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Zampa

1 anchor 5 bruisers and the flexible handscomb allows you to attack for 50 overs

The problem with bruisers is they are unrealiable.. hit and miss. CA and Lynn are resolved over his omission. His injury proneness is too much of a liability as he can not dive or throw overarm. Tye or Kane Richardson are in my attack.

its tricky though if 330 is the new par in this world cup you can probably get away with only 1 anchor. Really our keeper will mean we have 2 anchors to Englands 1

shame about Lynn hope he at least gets another go in t20

Brett Geeves, the former Aussie ODI bowler, is going  ballistic about one set of  rules for the reselection of Smith and Warner for Aus, after dismally failing tests of 'character', whilst Matt Wade continues to be overlooked.
