The old Liberal trick of signing the contract before the election then blaming Labor if it goes wrong.

I have no problem with governments signing contracts close to an election. They are still in power up until they are voted out and so should do what they think is best. Otherwise, we get the farcical situation where no decisions can be made in the 6-12 months before an election.

If an item doesn't have bipartisan support or becomes an election issue - then the other side shouldn't be signing the contracts imo...

They'll get a bump in crowds late in the 2019-2020 season when the players start playing for contracts like they are now.    :D

no, i mean there are rumours there won't be 26 home and away games next season coz fox sports won't agree to extend the season in an 11 team comp.

But hasn't it already started? Why else are Sydney playing games elsewhere?

They have been doing and are allowed to do "soft" demolition, which is taking out chairs and stuff like that. They hadn't begun and are now delayed against starting any "hard" demolition, i.e. removing roofs, walls.

They had done the light demolition but none of the structural demolition which is what they have been stopped doing now by the court.

I'm a critic of the plan to rebuild stadiums in Sydney, but what will Labor do to Allianz if they win government? its not as if they can bring the seats back and reopen it. will they continue to demolish and build a smaller boutique stadium like Parramatta? Or can it be renovated? Or could they sell the land?

If the SCG Trust want a 45k stadium, they will follow the Macquarie Bank model and pay a low interest loan. If they mirror Western Sydney Stadium then cheaper option but still a loan

If it turns out to be a modern 45k seat stadium and no government money directly going towards it, I'd call that a win for all concerned.

i would normally agree 100%. football is more likely to get a better deal for any stadium not built by state or federal governments. but its a completely different story if its owned by the SCG trust.

Labor party saying if they win, they will force the SCG Trust to pay for all costs (including the planning and demolition so far) with a loan up to $644m to be paid over 35 years.

For some, this seems reasonable but I can't see how the Trust will be able to run except for hosting a heap of concerts and the like (ruining the pitch) and charging teams much greater prices for using the stadium. This won't be good for football at the SFS.
