Why would he follow Victory then?I think Thomas has signed with a European or Asian club and Birraz is his replacement.

I've been told that Birrighitti has already signed for wmg from someone whose best mate works pretty high up at the team.

Already own Triestina who are fighting for promotion to Serie B. Apparently they have named one of their junior teams Triestina Victory. Victory owners now looking for an English team and an Asian team. They want to instill the Melbourne Victory culture in their stable of teams to achieve success.

Melbourne Victory’s grand plan to become Asian superpower

Melbourne Victory’s owners have revealed that they want to buy soccer clubs in Europe and Asia in their quest to become an Asian superpower.

England and China are countries on their wishlist.

Club chairman Anthony Di Pietro and major shareholder Mario Biasin said they had already passed on a number of prospects.

Victory, recently valued at $40 million, enters its seventh Champions League campaign on Tuesday with its most expensive squad, headlined by Japan legend Keisuke Honda.

A new academy facility is the next key plank in their strategy.

Buoyed by Biasin’s investment in his hometown team Triestina, who he saved from virtual extinction to now be pushing for promotion into Italy’s second division (Serie B).

“We want to be Australia’s international club,’’ Di Pietro told the Herald Sun.“

You’d love to have something in the UK, you’ve got something in Italy — it’s a beautiful triangle. Then Asia, it could be a couple of places.

“We’ve built relationships around the world. If we were going to invest, we wouldn’t want a minority stake.

“We would want to influence things the Victory way, the values and the culture.

“Things come across our table regularly from the UK. We haven’t look seriously at anything, but we’re reviewing our strategy for the next five to 10 years.

”Biasin, whose Metricon empire has offices in Vietnam and Philippines, admitted they’ve had overseas approaches.

“We had an opportunity in Singapore, it wasn’t the right time,’’ he said.

“There’s still a lot to learn. As we develop (Victory), I think we can transfer into rather geographic locations and working with other leagues as well. There will be opportunities there in future.”

Di Pietro declared that the 2019 Champions League campaign, which featured clashes with Guangzhou Evergrande, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Daegu FC, was a vital for Victory.

“With the international facing outlook that we have, it’s going as far into Asia as we can is one of our high priorities and we’ve given Kevin all the resources we possibly can,’’ Di Pietro said.

Biasin has become a hero in his birthplace, with the 100-year-old-club were facing relegation from the fourth tier when he bought them in 2016, and just beat a Monza team recently bought by former Italian prime minister and AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi.

Melbourne Victory’s grand plan to become Asian superpower

honestly, for us to be a "superpower," we need to direct our funds towards eventually investing in our own stadium... that is unless investing in overseas clubs is a way of increasing capital to build it? chicken or the egg scenario?

Buying AAMI park would be the ideal solution to that problem.

Who said they could afford to pay his wages? When someone is offering you a sweet 30% Off coupon code, you'd have to be stupid not to use it.

I thought they asked the FFA for assistance and it's an absolute farce that they received said assistance.

The FFA/Fox made the offer to all clubs. MV took advantage of that offer. It's an absolute farce that the offer exists in the first place, but you can't blame MV for taking advantage of an opportunity.

That's fair. Especially since there isn't enough money for all 10 clubs to use.

Sick of shit crowds in the ACL. Both home and away Finals tickets should be prioritised to people who turn up to ACL and FFA Cup games so these part time fucks turn up when its important, not just convenient.

I believe there are such prioritisation systems in place in Europe.

So it's pretty clear that the board are now taking Asia very seriously (thank goodness).

I reckon that they'll look on Kev's performance tonight much more dimly than last year's domestic slump period, and I think back-to-back failures to qualify from the group stage (now reasonably likely after a loss at home to the notionally weakest team) will be weighed upon much more heavily than this season's domestic results when considering his continued employment.

I wonder how much Popa is on?

Absolutely the case, especially for bigger clubs in England. Ensures people turn up for all games if they want a hope in hell of away tickets for Europe or Cup Final tickets.

Bit rough - difficult for me living in Geelong to get to midweek fixtures but I'm there for every regular season game on the weekend. I'm a platinum member throughout the A-League season, so I'm definitely contributing a lot of cash to the club, so I'd feel pretty shitty if I was sent down the priority list for A-League finals because I wasn't able to attend midweek ACL fixtures.

I understand what you're saying, and definitely get the frustration, but there are a few more layers to it imo. One of the best ways to reward people is to play all of our games (including finals) at AAMI Park. This is a natural way to ensure that the people who invest time and money throughout the season get first access to the game, and then casual fans can get what's left. You'd have something like this for a priority list for tickets:

1) Full season members (13 games)
2) 5 game members
3) 3 game members
4) Non-matchday members (this includes country, interstate & international members)
5) General public

Once we start filling the stadium with majority of full season members, then we can start introducing incentives/points systems for those who attend the most matches (like they do in Europe).
