RFM was the 2nd one, that was unlucky.

The first one was dumb play from us, we should have know Fergo was after the intercept.

Our attack is a bit limited, we are looking to go around teams way too much, should be hitting holes or running at the halves more often close to the line.

Correct.
Our problem once again is that we are not smart enough to create tries. We are still relying on errors in defence to end up with an overlap out side to score.

There is nothing fancy in the middle or in the 3/4 lines to pull defences in and create gaps for a clean break. Its error from the opposition or nothing.

It's very worrying.

I'm afraid I cant see Pay solving this issue. He never struck me as a smart player in his playing days, I doubt he has the skills to impart to this playing group as coach.

Not sure who else we have but we must improve on this.

Our defence is a shambles at the moment. Can't be leaking near 40 points a game.

Here's Craig Bellamy's chance to prove he is a coaching great... Let's throw the leagues club at him to come to the Dogs when Smith retires...
Bulldogs culture and process heavily influenced the Storm during its inception...
Time to get a bit back...

If Pay, the club and players thought they were put through coals after the Warriors game they can expect another parting from the rugby league world this week - if not worse.

It's important for them to respond appropriately.
I'd rather they said nothing and kept any media to commitments to a minimum. Just do a Darius Boyd and say very little or nothing at all.

Focus this week needs to be defence for the full 80mins and extending the 20mins of dominance to more than a half.

They will eventually turn things around, but have started the season awful. Once again, I feel it was the abhorrent decision to play only 1 trial. I'm tempted to say Pay will pay a heavy price for that poor decision.

Yep, it's a very disappointing start BT.
We were installed as wooden spoon favorites before a ball was kicked and whilst deep down i could see the reasons why, I was hoping we put egg on the faces of the 'experts' and bookies.

Unfortunately, we have just added fuel to the fire.

Not the end of the world as 2008 triggered a serious change to team structure and personnel and sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to force change. Was hoping we wouldn't be a reactive club like that and stayed on top by being proactive in all facets of running an nrl club, but not to be.

Bottom 3 finish this year will just about assure us of significant change and our club usually gets back to the top much sooner than others.

Kudos to Ferguson and Parra for realizing that Parra relied heavily on Sami Radradra and was very successful with that type of winger. They were wooden spooners without him last year after being earmarked for top 4, and this year they plugged the hole and its showing. It pains me to say this, but we need to be as smart as parra going forward.

What i don't like about Sue is he drop too many balls with unforced errors and he doesn't make good yards running the ball.

I assume he was signed to simply add depth, he does seem to have got Danny F playing better.

Pay has generally trimmed the squad down a bit which I agree with...

I'm happy with Napa he is playing well and having a real dig, what we are lacking is another starting prop that can make good yards and a good impact prop off the bench. Sue isn't the answer to either of these questions.

I would start Danny F and try Tolman on the bench... and definitely promote Ogden for Sue, we have to try something.

He probably makes the lattes...highly unwanted. The lack of grunt is our biggest problem and unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much around. Some good moments and even a great moment...Lewis's kick for Foran's try. Meany would have to do a lot better than he did yesterday to even remotely warrant a go.

I thought they improved a heck of a lot in the first half hour compared to last week. Plenty of enthusiasm & confidence, which in turn sapped Parra of theirs, forcing them into fumbling bumbling errors. It was looking like Parra were going to have one of those days & lose the match, regardless of whether Canterbury did enough to win it themselves. However, once the Canterbury reserves came on, suddenly Canterbury were the team fumbling & bumbling. Parra took their gifted opportunities, then got their confidence & enthusiasm back. Canterbury lost theirs & never recovered. A much improved first half, but the 2nd half floodgates opened again...

The improved start is great but there's some major problems to fix. It reminds me of the Norths & Souths teams of the 80's. They were usually down in the bottom 4 & could barely get a win at the best of times. Yet so many times, they'd put in a great first half, even leading at half time against top teams, just to come out & let in 20 or 30 points & lose in a flogging. Even if the scoreline was close or level with a minute to go, they wouldn't be the team to snatch a win, it was always their opponents. The backbone of a top side, just a player or 2 missing to consistently complete a victorious 80mins...

BN I think we have to be patient and hope for the best, there is no alternative.

I'm not so impressed with our start last game, but in both games we did some good things and IMO the halves combination of Lewis and Foran is the best we have had for sometime.

We are missing JMoz big time in defence, we have taken a calculated gamble there, and probably got it wrong.... Harper is the long term replacement there (we hope)

What is worrying more than anything is our side can't seem to handle big fast outside backs running hard at us, I think we we can find good settled combinations for each edge and work together as a team we will get better results in attack and defence.

At this stage it doesn't look like our team can physically match a lot of the other teams, if we have money to spend before June 30 we need to strengthen a few areas, If our edge defence and yardage up the middle is working better, our halves will look better, they are not the problem, which is good as halves are the hardest problem to fix quickly.

I haven't given up hope of avoiding the spoon, but making the 8 looks like a long shot form here.

Why do the Bulldogs take so long with their development of  players when other teams put 18 or 19 yr olds in all the time and they take to it straight away?  I watched the Flegg, Ball and Matts sides all win and play extremely well and there are a couple of extemely talented players but how long will they take to put them in and it certainly won't be this year because of the top 30 rules. Watched the reserves on replay this morning, Meaney played like a cat.  He is Abbey the 2nd so far.

We have the worst centres in the comp, they had to buy one for sure but decided on forwards as usual. Pay has to take the blame for the right side being disrupted. It just isn't working.

We will see if Pay recognises he has made a mistake and tries to correct it.

Meaney is a big disappointment, I know the ability is there.. just  needs the determination to go with it.

I'm all for Pay getting a fair go as he seems like a nice bloke, he was a good player for us and he seem to have some coaching potential.
But we can't have the coach making rookie mistakes for too long and the team being under-prepared, I now we don't have the talent to match it with the big sides, but make the most of the talent we do have... at least get them playing like a team..... playing with passion   and working hard for the full 80.

I think we might be able to do player swaps, if other teams have cap problems.

We might be able to add development players than can go on to play NRL.

What is happening with Renouf T? Is he injured?

Pay probably needs Harper, Meaney, Cogger/Wakeham, Meaney, Renouf T and some of the other young guys to step up, more of the same each week, and I can't see him lasting too long.

If we switch Holland back to the right, left centre is a big defensive problem, probably why Holland is on the left, but we need Plan B, Plan A was a dud.

So why was Holland switched, perhaps Montoya can't play right?

Regardless, Holland/Smith worked well on the right last year, this is the team change I don't understand

Yes, I'm thinking CHN as a stop gap especially again Masters.

The other problem we have is a lack of combination in attack and defence, which means getting the team selection right and sticking with it. But we need to change as we know it isn't working.

But perhaps we should see how CHN goes in the centres, and if it works keep him there, to be honest I thought that was part of the reason why he was signed.

Jackson is playing crap on the left also.  You can't change a side around to fit in a player that shouldn't be in 1st grade in the first place. This decision worries me about Pay.

Why buy Sue & CHN when we have Renouf T, Ogden, Martin etc

That money needed to be spend on a few half decent outside backs & a No9

The Bulldogs for approximately the past 2-3yrs now have really struggled when teams have the momentum to swing it back our way.... we don’t cope at all

We have 8 off contract this year and I would only re-sign 3.  That leaves 5 spots they can improve for 2020 with better talent who are actually 1st grade standard.

Nancy, do you know who we are still paying that are now at other clubs?
I assume at least Woods and Mybe.

I wouldn’t make mass changes as it will be detrimental. I think a few subtle changes may do the trick.

1.       Hoppa
2.       Smith ( R )
3.       Holland ( R )
4.       CHN ( L )
5.       Crichton ( L )
6.       Foran
7.       Lewis
8.       Tolman
9.       JMK
10.   Napa
11.   Jackson ( R )
12.   Martin ( L )
13.   Elliott
14.   Cogger
15.   Fualalo
16.   Ogden
17.   RFM
