Yeah, the rebuild is easy. It just can’t be done or started mid season. 7-9 good youth players ✔️+ 5 new visa players + Young, DWH and a couple of others +a couple of new Aussie’s. It’s all down to the new coach and whether they can sign 5 visa players

There's the positive Waz we were looking for!

I hope your $6 bottles taste like $6.50 bottles Waz!!

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Only two good things about the game: D’Aggers excellent cross for the goal and Eric’s celebration with the corner flag 😂

Where was Calletti last night? Is he injured. If not, why would we have a bench of Lokilngoy, Henrique and Daggers?
Our midfield (in name only) was woeful. Not sure what DD’s strategy was - 4 defenders and 3 DMs, with McKay often dropping in between the CBs in case we got a bit attacking. We had no control of the ball in their half at all.
The team talk must have been “Ok, I want you all to fight hard in defence and then pump it to Eli and Dylan. Then you two know what to do, right?”
Oh well, only a few more games to endure.

Matt Mckay playing deep (and often between the two CBS) worked really well. But the midfield was pants other than that, Lopez and TK are now on holiday and looking for their next contract.

I thought the opposite. Him dropping so deep between your CBs pushed your midfield up and allowed us to paly a much higher line

One thing I will say for Eric was that he seemed to be the only player getting angry about how crap we were playing. Everyone else seemed to be cruising. We need more players who will get angry, demand better from themselves and everyone else.

True, but I'm sure who ever is in the running to get the job would be watching the games already and will have a rough idea of who to dump in the off season (most of the squad cough)
4 games left, coach might as well be announced at the end of the season, start fresh and not be associated with the current rabble.

Well, i'm almost done with the Roar, It just seems that each match the team gets more average, the atmosphere isn't there anymore.

hell almost all the bars and food is closed up.

I heard more noise from the Sydney supporters, as the Den end is no more, i still couldn't get my head around that it was almost empty at kick off.

I still can't believe we haven't signed a manager for next season, i don't care if he doesn't coach the remaining games, but it would be good for him to access the current players during the end of the season.

The only good thing is that the youth are getting a run, at this point i can't see myself renewing my membership again, the whole gameday experience is now a disappointment.

And what was the go with the animal costumes show at half time....

I would not have TK in my commercial league team the way he is playing .I was a real fan in his first season . Some go down hill quickly and some have a gradual slide ...but he has fallen off a cliff playing wise .

Disagree Waz. Him playing so deep meant that every time Sydney got beyond our front 3 (including Eric in there) it was a clear passage to the edge of our box.
Not only that but we had bugger all link up between defence and strikers. If it didn’t go to Eric it was just booted aimlessly forward.
We basically played 5-2-1 (Eric) -2 with 2 of the least mobile DMs in the league. And to make it worse, Nigro and Leck played as dedicated full backs not wing backs.

That WAS their attempt to improve the game day experience. Club seems to have given up on attracting the knowledgeable and passionate football fan. Rather, it’s just competing with school fetes and travelling circuses for passing families with nothing to do that day/night.

I thought Babalj looked quite good, especially for someone who’s just joined mid-season.

I can see enough potential there that he’d be a great player at this level if given a full, injury-free pre-season.

100% agree with those comments . Spot on Clockwork .
I would simply like to see the new coach announced very very soon . Suncorp has a look of desolation about it now . I used to always go home and watch the replay after the game, even after losses...but could not bring myself to do that last night....really don't want to relive any part of that game .
We all need a glimmer of hope right about now .
I wonder if anyone at the Roar ever sees these forums ?

The problem wasn’t Mckay playing his role, he played it well and very deliberately. The problem then was TK and Lopez offered virtually nothing in midfield - they neither occupied space to help defend nor provided forward movement to assist the attack. None of that is Mckay’s fault with all three goals coming from awful defensive errors.

Both Leck and Nigro seemed very reticent to go forward last night. The way the game was played, it seemed as if that was how they were told to play. Very disappointing game. Mind you, the way the team came out in the second half was better. But after scoring, we went back into our shell. No wonder we shipped two late goals.

That's how we've been playing for a while. Fullbacks are not to overlap. Not sure why, we constantly have wingers waiting for the overlap but are forced to go backwards.

How can you take the club seriously when they are going theough the motions?
Games have been pretty much meaningless for months.
New players coming in after JA left? For what reason? There is no new coach.
Players playing out of position. What does that prove to anyone?
DWH scoring ,so put him on the wing last night?
New player Babalj proving exaclty what with a few games to play under a dead man walking?.
TK,Lopez,McKay,what does playing them prove?
Its all pointless.
Why arent we giving a lot of youth game time and a plan?
They may as well pack up and go home now.

@crimsoncrusoe

I hadn’t thought about this until this season but basically the way the competition is designed you’re pretty much fucked if things go badly wrong.

In Europe after you’ve fired a coach in mid season you’d pretty much refresh the squad - transfer out a couple of players, maybe transfer in a couple of players or three, maybe offer a cash bonus to the remaining players to win some games, maybe loan in/out some players.

In Australia what can you do?

You can’t transfer any players out or in.

You can’t offer s cash bonus unless there’s serious cap space.

You can’t loan any player in or out, they have to be youth players (but, err, we’re alteady planning to play our own??)

And you can’t breach the salary cap so you can’t spend more.

Worse still, if you have 23 players on your books like Roar you can’t sign ANY players.

And of course you can’t fire any players by paying out their contract (eg TK) to make squad room.

The best you can do is fiddle around with numpty injury replacements.

And that’s the way Frank Lowy designed it. You’re not meant to like a CLUB you’re meant to like the COMPETITION. so if you’re clubs shot this year, don’t worry, you can just support the Melbourne blue ray franchise until next season when your team might be good again.

It’s the first time in a long while that we’ve been in this position. But this is how the Comp is designed

Never said McKay played badly. I was saying that it was a bizarre formation for DD to play. No idea why he thought that formation and style of play had any chance of achieving a result or being attractive to watch. TK and Lopez have only occasionally offered anything in a 3 or 4 man midfield; can’t imagine the circumstances under which they’d hold their own with just the two of them against 3 or 4 opponents.

I found an article linking him to Perth but I have no idea why they (or anyone else) would want him.
