I am not sure what some of you have expected but really, you can't sugarcoat a turd and turn it into a gourmet desert overnight. Just take a look at what Pay has at his disposal........ a handful of established FG players without being standout marque quality, some first graders that are just cutting their apprenticeship and a bucketful of newbies from intrust because the former incumbent(s) left us in a shithole of a mess. Please cut the bloke a bit of slack, it's going to take him until round ten just to sort the wheat from the chaff and then he has to get some reliable combinations happening. FMD I think he is more than a brave hombrè.

I am.
I see no benefit in him getting months extra so early in the season.
What purpose other job security for Pay does it serve?
This is a black mark on the current administration. They have been good to date but have fallen for the same mistake we have done in the past.

So if we end up near last this season, we write it off as a salary cap ridden season. Next year if we start with a 0 and 5 record, do we sack Pay and pay him out, or do we finish another sesson poorly and seek a new coach in 2021?

There was absolutely nothing to be gained by re-signing Pay so early. Nothing.

Poor decision in my opinion.

I question whether we've learnt anything.

Unless the administration quietly emailed me to tell me we are chasing a Bellamy or Robertson for 2021, it makes no sense to me at all.

I don't think you can say its a black mark against the board until he's finished. It could be a stroke of genius that leads to us signing a rockstar fullback and winning two premierships by... Oh... Ummm...

Tony..you said it all in your "FU Des" (presume FU didn't stand for Forever Up)...the board and Pay is a package deal if you like. They inherited the problem and it was a lot worse than was painted before they took over. They have some good people on board in the recruiting and development departments. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear but hopefully they will get close. The opening 2 weeks have been disappointing but errors turned what was potentially a close game into a score which probably flattered Parramatta ...a bit any way. The Milo Kerrigan intercept could have been a 12 point turnaround. I feel most wouldn't quibble with a one year extension to Dean's contract and hopefully he won't have to have Kris Kristofferson doing "Why Me Lord" on rotation for too much longer.

Tony, why are you getting all stressed out? It's only two games man. They way you're talking anyone would think you are looking for excuses to ditch the Dogs for another team. I can't remember how many times I have said we have to be patient. Just chill dude and let the season unfold.

IMO giving Pay another year is the right move.

He's had very little to work with and he deserves a chance to show what he can do.

It's also important for the players to know he'll be there next year so they have to impress him this year if they want to continue their first grade careers with the club next year.

Signing him now also deals with the possibility of rumours about imminent sackings further destabilising the current campaign.

What we can safely say is, if Pay gets good results with this squad, that is good coaching and impressive, and we will be glad we extended him.

If as we expect the results are poor/average, the real question is how much slack to do cut him?

The board should know poor coaching when they see it, I am happy for them to make the call.

I still agree with Tony.
I still see no reason why we would jump the gun and resign Pay so early. The jury is out as to whether we should be resigning him at all.

I doubt Pay has any pulling power as coach to lure any high profile players than say a Neil Henry, Matt Elliott or Anthony Griffin or even Kevin Walters....

It seems nothing but an admission from the club that we are in for 2 more years of misery due to salary cap and existing contracts that we wont be able to lure anyone of any note at all.

We better hope our players can step up and become competitive to see us through....

Mark I, if you agree with Tony then what I posted also applies to you. You're reaching for the scalpel WAY too soon. Also as far as coaches and their power of attraction... it wouldn't matter if Bellamy or any of the other supposed great coach was in charge at the Dogs, the vault is empty man....we have no funds to buy anyone... zip, zilch, zero, nought. Stop flogging the dead horse.

What a surprise...the answer I gave the board & pay are in it together,...they are supporting each other The players are obviously well behind him even if results don't match. Who is to say Pay won't be better than any of them. Who has Kevin Walters coached??

Put it this way Walters has never been sacked as an NRL coach. I'm surprised that he made Marki's list.

The fact Trump has resurrected the country also makes things swing in his favour.

...if only we were the 6pm game.....
Then only Foxtel subscribers would bother watching it, while the rest enjoy their dinner!

I'm looking forward to a much improved performance today. Not the 10mins here or there we saw in first 2 rounds. I really want to see Jacko improve ad he has been horrendous in the first 2 weeks. Hope we dont see schoolboy errors today en masse. If the Tigers beat us coz they play well, then I won't be too critical, but if we fold like a deck of cards again, I'll be furious with the team and Pay.
