+x+xHas Caletti been played as an AM before? Apparently Powell didn't travel with the squad. Couldn't train properly due to exams. Young Leck, Pepper, Tongyik, McKay Eric, Caletti, Nigro, Ricky Daggers, DHW What exams has he got, it's bloody April. So he goes to school from 9am to 3pm? And He misses the game because as his exams interfere with the training session. I presume that this means That he couldnt train after school because he was studying for the exams. So, my question is what about the 5 day a week full time professional training. Does the Roar fit their training sessions around Powells spare periods or lunch hours, or have they reduced their training sessions to Tuesday and Thursday nights. If so, i think this might explain a few things with their form. In any case, how in the world is it possible that a full time student would not have difficulties fitting in with the training of a full time football team?

Nigro cannot play left back and Leck does not have the pace from a standing start that he needs to cover any opposition player in that position - regardless of how well he knows what to do. As someone else mentioned before the game, City can run round through or past TK and Lopez at will, pass the ball to anyone on either wing, and they just stop start and run round through or past Nigro and Leck. At least if no-one was there someone else would move to cover the runs. Leck tried his best all night, and you could see he could tell where he wanted to be, but his pace is all straight lines and once he gets momentum up he can't turn and go again. I credit him and his effort; but that just is not his position (I think as we all know anyway). TK and Lopez - don't warrant a mention. DD effectively fielded a 3-1-2 formation for most of the game tonight.

That's about all... TBH I didn't watch the game, watching the 2 bottom teams in the AFL seemed like a better viewing experience.

+xAnyone fancy David Mitchell, Frank Farina, Gary Phillips and John Kosmina as our next coach?? Or Moss for that matter?? No, not really. What I want to see is a coach/manager who has no plan b, no fallback strategy if this gig doesn't work out. No distractions. Someone whose sole purpose for the next 'x' years is to make this team work. Someone who can sniff out those players who have something to offer but don't quite 'fit in' with other clubs. Someone who can create a playing style that can bring fans to the game. Someone who truely appreciates this opportunity because THIS is what they've busted their arse for.

Waz The last game without us knowing who the replacement coach is <cough>. Babalj had a couple of moments to justify his worth and blew them. Daggers had a sniff and muffed it. Had Footbridge (think it was him) not desperately headed the ball into his own net, the beautifully lofted pass was destined for Ricky's right foot a half second later and I would expect him to have scored it. Odd though - a highball to Ricky that didn't get past the defender even though it almost came off for once. TK and Lopez got turned inside out almost every time. TK made one really top class interception; reminding us what he used to be able to do at will. Leck worked his butt off and made a few stops, but mostly got turned inside out by any number of players down their left. Nigro would get my worst on park - even against TK and Lopez. I cannot recall thinking "well in" even once during the game - but maybe I just didn't notice - and any number of players had him beaten to create seriously good attacking opportunities any time they ventured down the right. Both teams lucky not to get yellows for cynical fouls throughout the game. Ref doesn't like cards since no-one sent him one at Christmas. Best thing from the night was Logan Lightning getting to play against a really well coached side. You missed nothing new - and missed everything old. You lucky lucky bastard. I wonder if DD is protecting DWH with Babalj by not having him leading the line before he is ready. On the wing he has less pressure but running into the box still gives him opportunity and exposure. I would like to think there is at least that much forethought in the team lineup.

Given how tall he is, the fact that he loses almost all aerial duals is really disappointing. He is muscled off the ball so easily. He has technique, but is pretty slow and weak. Perhaps with a full pre-season he would come good, but that is a big risk to take.

What’s really pissed me off is Logan Lightening fluked a 2-2 draw with the very last kick of the game last night. Clearly Roars defensive ills is starting to rub off in junior football 😡

I suppose if you don’t expect your strikers to hit the target from 12 yards while under no pressure you could make a claim that Babalj is not totally useless. I’ve coached 15 year olds in social leagues who’d bury that chance 4 out of 5 times, whereas Babalj barely made contact. Embarrassing.

I am not saying he is bad - but I have watched him twice in Roar colours now and both games he has put himself in positions where he could do damage, then either got muscled off the ball easily or he just missed his chance. I have not seen anything yet which justifies his inclusion in the side over our other largely wasteful options.

I'm in NZ and had a TV with SKY so watched the game.....I then went and threw myself in the fresh fallen snow to numb my brain so I couldn't think about it.....unfortunately my wife rescued me and my torture returned.
Please make this stop....how the hell are we ever gonna get a coach after these last few weeks.

The new coach doesn’t want a bar of this shit. Let’s face it, who wants to start their coaching record with a string of defeats?
The team that John built ... no other coach will touch it.

I fear you are right Waz.
Ive always thort that a challenge is good as a coach to show what you really can do, and I've always relished that challenge in later years to take on that challenge with a team, men or boys, women or girls, let's see what we can do.
Wow but tjs challenge for a pro coach is gonna be a big one by anyone's measure.

So can someone explain why a guy who was scoring a goal a game gets shifted to wing for a guy who never scores and just blew in? wtf is an apprentice to Aloisi doing in charge for half the season? Aloisi couldn’t coach defence,so why would his apprentice?

It’s part of the same mystery where our only true defender gets replaced at CB by a a short midfielder who’s played CB twice, while a right winger continues to be flogged by the opposition at RB. Calletti to replace Young next week?

DWH on the other hand is a small poacher who would be ineffectual leading the line on his own with the way that Brisbane play. A striker like Babalj would be a great strike partner for him imo. Daggers (his Olyroos brace was good tbf) and Charlie haven't done anything to show they belong at HAL level.

He has missed plenty of chances, but he was one of our own forwards who missed chances. We don't need another player coming in and giving us that in our current state. Babalj may hold up a ball sometimes (I have seen him easily pushed off too many balls to think of him as a holder of the ball outright) but what has he shown us that he can do after that? Maybe our team is so disjointed that we just can't string good plays together; maybe anyone up front who can't go it alone and score would look like crap. But I do not see Babalj as making a difference in games now and that is what I judge his effectiveness on. DWH is not ready to lead the line - no challenge from me on that. He is better than a poacher though - scores goals from nothing rather than just taking the tap ins and easy loose balls. Give him space and he can manufacture something useful in traffic or in bad positions. Genuine forward in the making I think, and if he had a solid strike partner who could stand his ground then that would be worth building on. I am waiting for Babalj to show me that he can do that and be that. Not many games left to make a statement.

It's hard to tell as he's hardly had any service whatsoever and is lacking in fitness and sharpness. In the past he has been prolific, so hopefully if he can get a full pre-season under his belt, he could do the same.

But apparently that’s good enough form to displace DWH who had scored 3 in 5. In the last 3 games neither has scored. Maybe I’m watching a different game, but I’ve never seen a Roar striker look less likely to score a goal than Babalj.
