Can see this system is very suited to Bos and Mcgree. Bos is highly effective as the most outside player with his speed and crossing. Mcgree meanwhile loves to play in that little pocket between the wing and AM, and so it came to pass that in that 2nd half, the left flank of Bos and Mcgree inside him looked very dangerous. Over on the right side Hrustic would be very suited to that inside winger/wide AM position and I think leckie or metcalfe would be effective as the RWB going past him.
If we can nab Volpato, he also will be suited to playing in these half spaces. Then up top Yengi, Duke and Toure are all suited to play as the hold up striker.
Just need Luongo or Robertson back in that midfield 2 to act as the deep lying distributor and we will have an effective system.

+x+x+x+xWe'll qualify because it's basically impossible not to and just be one of many teams making up the numbers But you never know we might uncover another wonder kid in the next 18 months If we don't bottle it that gives us 2-years to get our shit together. I think there's the bones of a good side. Our more exciting players will benefit from experience in that time. Agree with this... Robertson, Farrell, Bos, Irankunda, Circati, Volpato, Bennie, Hollman, Milanovic, Bennie, Toure should all really come on in that time Add Youlley, Peupion, Nieuwenhof, Ballard, Triantis to the list as well. Plus there's quite a few young guns coming through behind them as well 2003 as a birth year is insane...really curious whether it is an outlier or a new normal. Here is a full list of players born 2003 worth watching GK: Beach Defenders: Paull, Simmons, Circati, Triantis Mids: Robbo, Holman, Alagich, Valadon, Priestman Forwards: Rodriguez, Volpato, Toure, Drew, Grimaldi, Dukuly That single birth year has the potential to be as good as some socceroos teams. Our best ever birthyear before 2003 had a mere 4 players break into europe's 2nd tier or higher before 24. I'm expecting 8-10 from 2003 with 5 already broken through

+x+xDo they know what caused the death, so sad. Its heartbreaking mate... The guy was supposed to fly back to UK for his son's first birthday yesterday ... The Greek media are still saying accidental drowning and coroner says no "foul play" I guess ... just have to wait to see if anything else comes out..... Life is a bitch sometimes, who knows, if he didnt pick up a small niggle last weekend and not be in contention for the national team, he could have flown with the squad to London on Monday and still be alive.... farkin hell sometimes..... Thanks mate, just amazing how fickle life can be. That is mind blowing.

+x+x+xEngland playing Foden and Palmer up top with Saka and Gordon on the wings. Maybe something for Australia to consider. Say McGree and Hrustic as an example. Lots of passing and movement. I imagine England will be looking for Saka and Gordon at the far post or cutting back. 2 6's in midfield. Goodwin's roaming was an asset against China. Seeing him on the right shows preferred foot is less relevant when they're good at cutting in. 1 nil down. Honeymoon might be quick for the new english coach Finished 2-1. Is this an interim coach? May not last long. https://sport.optus.com.au/internationals/videos/os79817/os79817-highlights-england-v-greece?utm_source=onebox&utm_medium=highlightsFamous win for Greece at Wembley, lot of heart shown by the Greeks after the tragic passing of George Baldock ... farkin hell this kid bossed in the derby last weekend.... https://www.espn.com.au/football/story/_/id/41704791/george-baldock-dies-greece-sheffield-united-panathinaikosStill, both my national teams won last night... gotta see the silver lining :) Looks like 2026 may be on the itinerary after all :)

+xTim Ream shared what the first USMNT training camp has been like with Mauricio Pochettino 🗣️ Watch Ream’s comments: https://buff.ly/4eWfhvMUSA with similar issues to Australia of too many complacent bigger names and too much buckpassing. What in the football manager is this? I missed him being coach at USA that's a crazy move

+x+xReally would have liked to have seen more of a shakeup of the squad with more 'yuff' added inc Kalik over Brattan, Toure over Duke, Farrell/Elder over Behich. Positives though include Luongo ending his retirement as well as Hrustic and Arzani being brought back in. My starting 11.. Gauci Souttar Burgess Rowles Metcalfe Irvine Hrustic (mass later) Bos McGree Goodwin Irankunda i doubt the socceroos are good enough to pull off a back 3 system Well it ended up being the exact formation I predicted. We played best with a back 5 under Arnold also

+xIt'd better be bloody true instead of some convenient fake excuse. Get it sorted. Unless he accepted the call up too late & didn't leave enough time to nominate him for the squad with FIFA? I hope it's just an easy fix like that & he's good to go next camp

+x+xWe'll qualify because it's basically impossible not to and just be one of many teams making up the numbers But you never know we might uncover another wonder kid in the next 18 months Thanks to Nic for putting together the potential intercontinental stage. If Australia end up in that deep shit, they should be ok as a seeded team. I won't be here to see it as it'll be the death of me. I actually find AFC round 4 potentially harder as a slip up makes it very hard to win the group. - Fourth round: Six third and fourth-placed teams from the third round are divided into two groups of three teams each. The teams will play against each other once in a centralized venue. The winners of each group qualify for the World Cup, and the runners-up of each group advance to the fifth round.
A centralised venue? ME locked in. Watch Australia then draw Jordan and North Korea. Of course failing there you don't deserve the WC. Role reversal this time is we are the hunter. We've normally been ahead so maybe there's a different type of pressure. Hopefully they make it like the Womens Asian/World Cup qualifying and the seeded (highest ranked) nation is the centralised venue. But I highly, highly, highly doubt that.
