Why would Bennett let his #1 back up for cook go???...
fact is no one has any idea if we've approached the likes of Britain or Brailey, but assume we haven't cos it suits a rant...

Not sure we can get Brittian, but similar to  Meaney his path to NRL is blocked by a better player.
Most of the time these are the kind of player you can get or a really talented young kid 3-4 years away from NRL.
I don't know who we can get, but it is most unlikely we will get top shelf experienced 9 from another club.

Watch this space end of next year, the bitching will be 'how come so many players off contract at the same time, with no talent on the market'...

Ideally we want to improve 2-3  key positions each year.
CHN, Cogger and Meaney were good signings.
Sue, Crichton and Chris Smith ok signings.
Okunbor is an improved player,
Napa the best replacement for Klem we could get.
It is a big job, there is no quick fix....

Next season 9 has to be the priority.

Wrong again  .... Foran was signed for 3 years.  No the other two do not come anywhere close to Foran, you are full of it.

If its only 3 years, I'm cheering (maybe Pay is too)
Look....in a good team, Foran could be quite a player, but in a not so good team, which lacks potency elsewhere, he is very average and not consistently good to match his price tag.

I'm not knocking his ability. I just don't think he is a good fit for this developing team.

Player history, you mean every game he's played this season???...
consistently has the defence in two minds and creates almost all of our opportunities...
maybe if you'd watched more than 3 bulldogs games this year you'd know that...

I agree he runs to the line and puts defences in 2 minds - probably his greatest attribute.

But unfortunately our team structure is such that he handles the ball maybe once in a set of 6, while Tolman sees it at least twice. And if it's not Tolman, its Jacko or Elliott or some other clone.

This is my issue Dman. Foran should be commanding the ball just about every play - most certainly in attacking half. He doesn't.

It's a black mark against the team, the coach's tactics and also for him. But you cant change him. He looks good in a team that is rolling forward but I'm afraid his 1 good run or play per set isnt enough for this team.

He'll look great playing for others but I'm not convinced he is the best option for us.

In any case, 1 more year and Pay it the next coach can decide if they keep him or not.

Everyone is underestimating how much difference a quality 9 and a really good prop would make.

Players are underperforming the coach is making mistakes and I hate the fact that we are finding ways to lose on a regular basis.

Winning breeds confidence, as does scoring points, it starts with good players in key positions.

The dh situation has been bubbling along for 5 years and not addressed. Add to the situation we lost Klem.

It's got to the frustrating point where I am hoping Martin does probably leave,  so he can get a fair go. He hasn't consistently shown what he can bring but you get the sense he will when given a competent, encouraging environment. The rumours with CHN don't bode well either and Reimus is seriously down on enthusiasm.

The team has so many issues that must be addressed before any progress can be made.

The body language at the forum, then the body language in the dressing room are a very bad sign. Players will forgive inept coaching for only so long.  I am sure paying Pay out wouldn't cost much. The club has to admit they made a mistake re-signing him and move on.

Watching the Titans/Cowboys game. Their sheds,  a stark contrast to ours. Looks like some constructive tactics are being laid down and players listening.

But aside from Foran, who else in our team is a winner who knows what it takes to win a comp?
Possibly Napa when he is on deck.
We will probably need a new coach by the end of the season if Pay can't turn things around.
Only some of our younger players are any hope of being in a dogs side that wins the comp.
I'm mostly backing the coach and players while they are here.
The coach needs results, I am sure the players enjoy winning more than losing.
We are not far away from winning many games, equally we don't look like fixing that.
If anything good comes out of this season, there is a fair chance Foran is part of it.

Most probably something a fan made up, I know some of our fans make up all sorts of crap.

Perhaps CHN and RFM are playing for the same spot. I would give it to CHN, not sure what is happening with RFM, he had a lot of promise but seems way out of form.

I don't think that will stop us.

The club officials should reach out discreetly to the senior players and judge the vibe.

Dropping players is what he had to do, not all players take it well and he probably dropped some of the wrong players.

Looks to me like the effort is still there on the field, so I am not convinced yet either way.

But this kind of thing is a ticking time bomb, the coach needs results and fast.

We do want to be the kind of club where the coach is in control, not the players.
Otherwise players will simply look after their own careers.

Agree,
Great player but not for our tactics Runs to the line and passes a flat pass to Who, RFM ,drops the ball.
This is the play in the set as Tolman, Elliot, Jackson, Napa have already played the burner. Sometimes Tolman by 2.
Ridiculous.

Just get an opinion from senior players who can be trusted to be honest and fair.
Not someone who has been recently dropped, or who isn't being offered a contract extension.
Any team sittling last who lost 2 or more games on the trot is going to be subject to rumours.
Apart from asking some senior players, the only guideline is on field effort.
Fan forums are the last place to go for fair and  balanced opinion, until the forums are proven right.

It is easy to say but hard to do...some of the suggestions have been jokes Segueyro for example. or blokes that are tied up on 3 year contracts as though it is a matter of snapping the fingers and you get what is wanted. Recruitment from NRL clubs is pretty hard. Have to look outside of the box.

This is why I try to throw names in the mix as "these kind of players". Reason being it's a type of player I want and not necessarily someone specific.

The hooker I want is someone who's instinct is to run first and pass second. Someone who plays in front of them. It's easier to curb a hothead rather than teach a gnome to be a hothead.

I also prefer players I'm the middle who have the natural instinct and desire to run forward and back in defence rather than those that dont but can play 80mins.

At centre I just want at least one of them to be players who can run angles and set up their wingers via tackle busts or freak step and or fend.

I dont really care too much about mistakes as long as our players can make up for them. If all our players made 2 mistakes but made up for it with 3 important plays, we would win nearly all games

I need to find another option ... surely there are more players that could do the job.

If we have young halves we need a smart dummy half that can help organise the side.... not many of them around.

Someone like Cook with brains and speed is extremely rare...

I'll let Souths keep Billy if they give us Cook.
