Well done to the Great Dane, Ponga, Ben Hunt, Papalii and DCE.
Absolutely marvelous.
Hunt was magnificent playing 80mins at hooker.

But NSW had more bad players than QLD who hardly had any - Napa and Mbye probably the poorest or least influential. That wave of defence that hit NSW inside their 30m around the time of the Oates try in the 2nd halve was brutal. Papalii, Maguire, Kaufusi, Fifita, Gillett, Hunt were all coming off the defence line with fury and pinned NSW. That's where the game was won. It sapped NSW. Then you had football smarts kick in with DCE and Munster purposely kicking the ball to an injured Cotric knowing he couldnt return the ball with any venom. Footy is usually won by the smart players, and QLD has way more than NSW.

More that Walker and Mitchell were shaky in defence, The game turned when JMoz was dragged back into the in goal, I thought that was a penalty. While Teddy was great he also dropped a few balls a critical times... apart from that it QLD played with more energy and purpose. NSW needed to spread the ball more when QLD were rushing in defence.. Now I live in QLD I want NSW to win, not that I care greatly but the best way to shut up QLDers is a NSW win, I blame Dman for betting on Klem for MOM, I knew we were gone when I read that. I think this game shows what sport is all about, don't make dumb mistakes, don't take silly risks, but at the right time you need to take the right risks, because that is the only way to change momentum. Earlier in the 2nd half NSW should have rolled the dice, and attempted to shift momentum...

I think Freddy got lucky last year and incorrectly attributed the NSW good performance to his new found yoga techniques rather than the real reason which was a team full of young enthusiastic and in-form players who just did the job. This year, that stuff did nothing to prepare the players. Players like Mitchell (who's head was elsewhere) and Walker and Addo-Carr spent more time focused on whether they sing or don't sign the anthem than actually preparing themselves. NSW also had some incumbent players that probably shouldn't have been there (Cleary, Chrichton). But I come back to player smarts. QLD boasting a spine of Ponga, Munster, DCE, Hunt and also having Morgan in the team meant they had spine positions covered with experienced players and players that have done well in Origin area. With an 8-0 half time scoreline, they could have panicked, but they didn't. They steamrolled their way back in the game. It was impressive coz they had Munster and Ponga heavily influential to their play in the first half, while DCE, Ponga and Hunt took over in the second. Changing / variable tactics my friends. It will trump any brute force in any game.

It was a close game in the end 1-2 NSW players didn't perform, the crowd helped QLD and they have a good side. Perhaps the coach and selectors got it slightly wrong, but sometimes team lose because the players don't perform. NSW need to rethink the Mitchell/Walker combination, the players need to think about how much they want it, and get some composure. At this level the coach is more of a motivator than a coach, all players at this level should know their job. I think Kevie Walters is a nice bloke so in a way I'm happy that QLD won, but like I said I prefer it when NSW win and there are a few total grubs in the QLD side, McGuire and Chambers in particular, I don't like when that type of player wins. Hunt threw some woeful passes from dummy half and really should have cost QLD the game. So I don't think that was a great selection, but his team still won.

Nancy is also right about Harry Grant, best young dummy half I've ever seen. I can see him playing SOO for QLD sooner or later...
I'm happy for us to go all out and make him our highest paid player, it will be the best recruitment decision we have made in years.
Commentators said he was the planned successor to Cam Smith at the Storm, but that Sydney clubs were circling, ..... come on Lynn, I've got a feeling if Harry visits Canterbury Leagues he might get lucky on the pokies :)

+xAny thoughts on BDP re suitability of Kev Walters coaching us? I like Kev. As a lower level coach he held a record for number of wins in a row for his team, not sure if that was QLD cup or one level down, but still impressive. The Sunshine Coast Falcons coach may have just beaten the record, but that is a star studded team with good players in all positions, but particularly the spine and back-line. QLD Cup is also a funny comp ... lots of the teams are fairly weak these days... But overall I think Kev can coach he is experienced and he is a nice relaxed kind of guy that can still get players to perform,
