+x+x+x+xJeez we've been a shambles of a club since SBW left. We haven't been able to find our feet for the past 20 years or so. Apart from one or 2 good seasons under Moore and Des it's been a constant rocky road. Mostly we haven't had the players ,... that all starts at board level ... who must make the right staff appointments.... We might have it all right now, but it takes time to rebuild the mess. Des would have gone better if we kept him and his team well away from recruitment and retention... Des would have done better with better players .... Pay hasn't really got the players .. it all starts in the office... Seems to me there are only 3 types of operations that could deliver a premiership..."legally" A) TPA' s that can gift you 3 elite players at 1M each without sending you over the cap B) Back-ended deals where you can live through a couple of lean years and then hit the market hard in the hope of putting together an 11M team C) You unearth some star players along with some key recruitments to field a top team and hope you win the title that year or next before your roster becomes unmanageable Roosters, Storm and Broncos seem to go with A. Des acquired (C) in 2012 and nearly pulled it off. He then tried (B) in 2014. Our problem is that our club isnt a club to receive TPA's and the NRL has cracked down on (B). So we are left with (C). We need to unearth the next Ben Barba and Josh Reynolds. This splurge in 2021 might just do it, but I think we need at least 7 good players to come from within. Not sure we have those yet so hoping some reserve graders can make a name for themselves in the next 2 years. I agree (C) is the option, but even the Storm are closer to (C) than (A) at times. Some of the young players at the club have potential and recruitment should happen at all levels and at all ages. Even taking the case of Tolman he isn't doing anything under Pay that he wasn't doing under Des, for years in fact, that isn't a problem with his ability, more playing to instructions or not playing to instructions, if he stayed at the Storm we would not be having this conversation. So the right coaching at all levels in the club can help players form good habits, rather than bad habits, what stands out to me is how well coached the Storm reserve grade side is and how much effort has gone into recruiting them... If a club did everything in the lower grades consistently better than other NRL clubs, success at NRL level is very likely... Again I think we got more wrong than right in the lower grades in the last 5-6 years... this year I am happy as a lot of young players are getting a chance in reserve grade and Nancy told me it is similar in all lower grade teams ... mostly if they are good enough .. they are old enough. Not sure on the last point. We seem to wait till they are at least 22 before they get a first grade gig. Barba probably the exception. Even with a wooden spoon team, we are "waiting" for them to mature in reserves before we play them. We would know a Kalyn Ponga if he smacked us in the face.

+xM is the only letter of the alphabet which followed by every vowel gives 5x 2 letter words. There are no 2 letter words with the letter "V" in them either front or back. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is an amazing 47 points in scrabble...just what we need. I'm never playing you in scrabble again!

We have an origin prop, NSW origin player of the year in 2017, we have the Tongan Captain to mix in with established CHN, RFM, Tolman, Elliott..... and bloody Million $ man Foran I can’t stand this ‘We’re a young team’ excuse! No we are not

+xMy only concern with him is his laid back attitude. Like Hoppa, it could be ok for his own preparation but I feel as though our team needs players who look like they prepare well for games not the relaxed preparation that he portrays. What you reckon would be his $$$ value? I don't know where you perceive that attitude. Matty Johns said he set an example at Newcastle. As for $$ he'd be on high tier center money and deserves high tier center money. So whatever you reckon that'd come in at I'd pay him that and if I had to shift or compete for him probably add another 10-15% to do it. He brings value plus.

We are slightly underachieving, and frustrating a lot of the time.. two things we are not is star studded, and full of current rep players... Even Napa is lucky to be playing rep footy.... Arrow from the Gold Coast is a better player... Wallace is just about a better player... that is 2 props from a team near the bottom of the table ...

And btw, I'd recruit him to play center while knowing he could cover any position 1-5 both sides of the field easily and regularly, and 6, 13, 12, 11 and even 9 in emergencies.
Did I miss any?

+x+x+x+x+xCome 4pm I’m expecting changes to this team.... 14 based on yesterday's performance... Perhaps even 18 :) Assuming Pay gets to name a side, he has to make changes and fairly substantial changes in some areas. I expect DWZ to play centre for now which is one problem potentially solved. I would promote Renouf T and CHN,consider promoting Harper, and bringing Okunbor back in even if only off the bench... I still think dropping players is better than not dropping them.... Pay is doing better than Des in terms of team selection IMO, Des did better in terms of motivation, but Des had guys like James Graham and John Morris in the team, good high work-rate defenders and motivated players. I'm sure when Pay drops a player and tells them to work on an aspect of their game, he is only copying what worked for Bellamy. Difference is all players listen to Bellamy some don't seem to be listening to Pay. This formula always works better in a successful confident team... Right from round 1 our team has been lacking, energy, confidence and motivation, the players probably took a look at our squad and expected to be where we are... Pay hasn't been able to combat that or even get our players making good decisions in attack and defence. Some of that poor decision making is lack of confidence, some of it is using the wrong systems in the wrong games. Pay is learning first hand how hard NRL coaching can be, we were were running with a weak inexperienced side, we needed a strong experienced coach. A big part of coaching is communication and being able to motivate players, I'm not overly critical as I know how hard it is, but if Pay has one last roll of the dice, he has to take it and make it count. He needs to consider how to get the players motivated and energised, I don't know the answer there but young players like Renouf T and Harper sometimes help... He has also got a lot to work on in defence in particular, lots was wrong against the Dragons, systems , strategy, organisation, decision making, team work, energy and commitment,.... at present the Dragons would love to play us every week, we have no clue how to defend against them... We were using up-and-in, when we should have been using up-hold-slide, and a lot of the time we didn't have many bodies in the frame... We dont play up and in. We play hold and then get sucked in creating an overlap. It's been our problem for years. In that case I have no idea what Montoya was doing against the Dragons, or where our other defenders where.... it looked like Montoya's aim was to tackle an imaginary player standing under the opposition goal posts... Has anyone mentioned RFM's arm grabs and the forwards all bunched in the middle of the field and not spreading....very worrying signs that might be telling us something.

I'm talking about current policy in the lower grades, closest thing it at NRL level is Meaney, Cogger and Okunbor getting a run, the club persisting with these young players even though they have a lot to learn. Reserve grade players I'm thinking of a Wakeham, Katoa, Seve, Leumelu, Mata'afa, Hetherington, etc., not all the young guys did well in reserve grade, many of them are going OK.

Yep I mentioned it we were playing a variation up-hold-and-slide, some going up and in, some going up and hold, some not going, and most not sliding. If we are looking for reasons to sack the coach, sure this is the major reason, our defence was anything but well drilled and looked to be lacking energy and enthusiasm... RFM and Martin gave Montoya close to zero help in the 2nd half... CHN was dropped for this reason, but I don't think he was this bad.

OK Dman being right about anything is a bit of a stretch...... If I had to rate our side.... out of 10.... 8/10 Foran - good player but could use more help... 7/10 CHN - X-factor, but a bit Lazy 7/10 Jackson - very good player but no longer rep level - Napa see Jackson.. 6/10 Tolman - solid player but gets in the road in attack. 6/10 R Smith - very good young winger with pace. Most of the young guys are around a 5.5 with potential but are too young... Elliott also a 5.5.... Most of the other forwards would be lucky to rate a 5.... 4.5/10 Tongan Captain - too slow for NRL, but mostly solid.. 3/10 Holland/ Montoya .. can be a disaster in defence.. sometimes good attack. There is a difference between having NRL experience and being a player who is one of the top 10 in the NRL in their position, Foran is, probably CHN, maybe Jackson ...... Most of the young players look like they might improve... many of our older players don't inspire the same confidence...

Not long now till Tuesday Team List. It'll be interesting *dread*

Has anyone mentioned RFM's arm grabs and the forwards all bunched in the middle of the field and not spreading....very worrying signs that might be telling us something. Reading the above, is it time to consider that Dean has lost the sheds or they are so unmotivated that they play like that? If so, there isn't much to look forward to. Not long now till Tuesday Team List. It'll be interesting *dread* DWZ should make a difference. sometimes 1-2 players is all it takes... That is the playing stakes.... While I'm pointing out the players the coach has to work with, that is not the same as defending the coach, he has to get the best out of the players and that includes having them turn up with the right attitude.. Coaching our side is a challenge, the coach has to be up for the challenge, and prepared to gamble..

+xOne change..... And Montoya is still there..... FMD! Yep, I am not sure if Pay is being bold enough. If the club is going to sack him a week before a bye makes some sense so after the Roosters game or the Sharks game. Keep in mind we don't have the final 17, CHN might be playing in the centres and Odgen in the team.....

Not in talent level of course.

We have enough players to have won more than 3 games. The team is a shambles. 1000% correct Nancy!! We have an origin prop, NSW origin player of the year in 2017, we have the Tongan Captain to mix in with established CHN, RFM, Tolman, Elliott..... and bloody Million $ man Foran I can’t stand this ‘We’re a young team’ excuse! No we are not Sorry mate, but on average we are in fact the youngest team in the comp...

+x+x+x+x+x+xCome 4pm I’m expecting changes to this team.... They've turned it up DD... they want to coach gone cos it's a ready made excuse for their insipid efforts...

No we are not Gee I can see why Dman is right.... Tongan Captain hey ... anything less that top 4 is a disgrace... Please list the NRL teams with a weaker squad .. I'm keen to be educated... What im getting at is that the excuse that ‘we’re a young team’ is dribble. Yea there are some kids playing their first NRL season of top grade.... like Jayden, Meaney, but the majority have 1st grade experience As for Dman being right.... right about what? I rate em all about one point lower... Foran maybe a 7.5... CHN not even close to topn10 in second row...

Ill put my recruitment & retention hat back on..... no one has an eye for talent as good as me! Poor Crichton gets dumped after being unable to tackle 3 players at once yet the causes on the inside get a free run. Montoya was never a 1st grade centre and is back now in the position he was dropped from??? Fair dinkum, 63 years after watching my 1st Bulldogs/Berries game (from dads shoulders) I am ready to give up and possibly applaud every Roosters try. Sick of the Pay way. I'm sick of watching Tolman and his settlers when we are attacking, Jackson and Elliot grabbing the ball off Cogger and burning it with an inside run. Sick of watching our wingers having to tackle 3 guys. Sick of watching a potential superstar winger (Smith) get no opportunities. When was the last time you saw our guys double pump and have an inside runner? Steveswr would remember but it feels like the ghost of Roger Pearman LOL. Anyway, I'm peed and glad I no longer live in Sydney and don't have the opportunity to go to the games.

Yeah I hate that sort of thing, if a player doesn't like the coach or doesn't agree with selections and tactics, that is no excuse to turn it up and not try, they are wearing the clubs jersey, they are representing the club, fans, friends and family, have pride in your personal performance... If the coach is a dud, sooner or later the club will make that call, but we are also watching you and making that call, as are all of your future employers.... I would never recruit a player that simply gives up, that kind of player belongs at Parra.
