Waz...... I guess you have a fair point.

Us die hard fans know these type of players but the average joe that goes to games because they are winning team may not be to familiar with them.

So they could mean nothing to those supporters.

However theres a lot of people who do know these types of players and if they did perform then maybe both lots of supporters would be encouraged.

Robbie will do what Robbie wants so we have to be hopeful of his choices will give us a better future.

another striker/winger rumour

Seems a little better than the Centre Back-Striker (a position I had previously undervalued) they were linking to the Roar over the week-end.

If we play good football, are competitive, and win some games we’ll get the fans back. That’s a tall order but was something we’d grown accustomed too right.

Players like Mikklesen aren’t much better than the names being bandied about here, the very best Scandinavian sides aren’t playing at the level of the EPL and are probably more championship standard, so when you draw players from outside that you’re really getting lower grade players.

But as weve seen, those players can turn out really good (not in Mikklesen’s case of course).

But fowler certainly seems to think League One/Two can provide good players. That’s going to be quite sobering for some, and I’d bet there’ll be a few that want him to fail out of fear of what it says about our competition.

Yep, to put that in perspective our best player in the 2015 Asian Cup has played in the Championship, at best, and been in League One, so there would obviously be gems to be found there. The whole psychology of a new environment can do wonders for a player, e.g. Broich and Berisha, so it is good to be positive at this stage. We may suffer for it in due course, but to be negative before we start isn't going to change a thing.

Signing a player of O’Shea’s quality and calibre would be a massive statement of intent by Argyle, and it would show just how serious they are about getting promoted next season.

O’Shea, along with Maynard and Mayor, all flourished for Lowe last season, thriving in the manager’s high-tempo, attacking style of play, and you would obviously expect him to stick to that philosophy next season.

Sounds like we be playing uptempo attacking
I like it

If we continue to believe that Fowler will be a roaring success as a coach/manager because he has special qualities as a person, then his recruitment of a bunch of League 1&2 players of British,Irish and Australian heritage could be pure genius.

These players will all be familar with a certain style of football and work ethic. They will have similar cultural  backgrounds and as a result melding them into a team on the other side of the world will be so much easier.
Fowlers vast network of scouts will know exactly what players will suit the positions, structure, fitness and work ethic required.

Instead of needing a poor season of familiarization, these playes are more likely to hit the ground running .

If as i suspect these players are highly driven and not the type of players that want an easy life, then we could end up with the best,if not most motivated team in the HAL.Which means 100% effort each game.

In Fowler we trust.Lol

:)

I know what you’re saying but if Honda can’t put bums on seats would these guys?

This. Danny Guthrie recently played in Indonesia with Mitra Kukar, who were relegated. He didn't exactly light it up there either, and I was a little surprised with Mitra Kukar's relegation. Steven Ireland hasn't played football for about a year, and probably hasn't played well in about 2-3 years, although he could be someone that really benefited from a move abroad and a new outlook on the game. I think Joey Ledley, Yohan Cabaye, Gregor van der Wiel and Victor Anichebe would possibly be out of Roar's grasp financially [unless on a marquee deal], but I'd be happy to see a player like Kranjcar play a season or 2 in the league. Ince and Ameobi would be interesting too, but I personally don't rate Leon Best that highly.

I think Fowler is going the more 'unknown quantity' route at the moment, which will either be a disaster or absolutely brilliant. As a neutral: I'm looking forward to seeing what it is.

Also with daggs and Ingham apparently of to Perth that only leaves us with 14 players signed. Still another 5 minimum signings that need to be made with only 1 foreign.

for example players like Joe Ledley 32, Johan Cabaye 33, victor Anichebe 31, Steven Ireland 32, Gregory Van Der Weil 31, Rohan Ince 26, Danny Guthrie 32, Nico Kranjcar 34?, Leon Best32, Sammy Ameobi 27. All without teams, and there must be heaps others out there.

weve all heard and seen these guys,
some must still have the desire and possibly would help put bums on seats without big name signings.

if all those players were playing in the a league the quality would definitely go up

Welsh forward would be Amadi-Holloway.

that would be very underwhelming.

26 years old - 19 career goals   from 172 matches..  would be better options in the NPL.

There’s 10 on the books so far, plus 8 is 18. Assuming there’s a swop deal in there that would be 16 or 17.

I have;

9. Pepper
Contracted till the end of 2019/20 Season:
8. Daniel Bowles
7. Dylan Wenzel-Halls
6. Nicholas D'Agostino
5. Dane Ingham
4. Jack Hingert
3. Jamie Young
Contracted till the end of 2020/21 Season:
2. Connor O'Toole
Contracted till the end of 2021/22 Season:
1. Stefan Mauk

Plus scholarship contracts to Reardon, Akbari, powell.  I would assume that those 3 will be the 3 under 23's but Otoole also fall into that category.

Assuming the 2 swap and aiming for a 19 senior man team (though i seem to remember that squad sizes have been increased this season but could be remembering wrong) we have 7 senior players (possibly even 6 if you chose otoole as an u23. have i missed someone

Not sure there would be in terms of strikers, there hasn't been a real standout like DWH was. He has at least played in a professional environment.

Having said that I hope we do pick up 2 or 3 from the NPL / Academy side to be added to the top squad.

Reardon and O’Toole are on first ream contracts (2/3 of the U23’s).

Akbari was signed to an Academy contract so not even a scholarship contact.

Assuming Roar can easily get to 3/3 for the U23’s then we’re looking for 20 Adult players in total with, as you say, a probable target of 19:

- the 8 newbies announced today
- the 8 on contact

that’s 16 but allowing for the possibility of at least one swap, 15+3 players by this time next week out of 20+3

Eoghan O’Connell?

scott McCormack rumour 👍

That would be very interesting.A ball playing CB.
If the  Aldred rumour is true, that would mean two CB's with Bury affiliation at some stage.
Also very rare for HAL teams to use two visa spots on CB's.
That would leave one visa spot left.
Maybe O'Shea as the AM.He is a playmaker.
If all of that happens we will have ROD,AON,EOC and O'Shea.Four irishmen running around in the hot sun.Lol then there is O'Toole to make five....Surely a marketing opportunity on St Patricks  day.

Pengelly from Brisbane Strikers looks pretty damn good to be honest. There's still a little bit of work for him to do, but he'd be worth a trial at the very least.

Doubt it.

Although they will have room with two marquee slots they could use.

I thought we had another visa with only 4 being announced this week? Maybe it'll be Troisi and a visa player taking the marquee spots. Probably just me off in la la land though.

I doubt Roar would ever sign Troisi, probably the polar opposite of what Fowler is looking for.

Kruze possibly.
