+x+x+xHere's one from left field. I've been watching mostly all the NPL games streamed by the various NPL's on FB and YT. I honestly think the bulk of our U19's U20's NT squads could come from these teams playing in high stakes high pressure games and we'd be better off. I've seen some pretty talented players over the last few months, those of whom have now played a couple of senior games for their respective teams, but won't get picked up because they are now effectively too old to get picked up by any AL academy. The majority of the guys playing in these games would be 18-19 and their next step is only to play NPL seniors, or if they have an absolute blinder of a season maybe just maybe could get picked up by an AL team. I think Dejan Pandurevic, was picked to play at an U20's tournament whilst playing for Manly, and I'm pretty sure Giordano Marafioti was chosen to go to a camp for the U19's a couple of years ago whilst playing for South Melbourne. I'd like to see us actually embrace the fact we actually do have another football competition that arguably does a better job at nurturing players for the 'World game' and not the one we have in OZ atm. What do others think? should we be looking at NPL senior players for underage National teams? (excluding Joeys (U15's - U17's)) EDIT: Obviously players not playing in AL academies in NPL as well. I agree mate, we need to be giving players an opportunity in a national youth team. Players like Marafioti and others deserve their chance, there is an 18 year old starting for Pascoe Vale every week, would be good to see him given an opportunity considering the thread bare options past Folami in the Young Socceroos. We really need to make our youth national team camps bigger and encourage more players to keep trying, as I am sure it is so easy to get discouraged and give up if you feel like you are going nowhere. How about the FFA arrange a regular NPL select vs A-League select games to see the truth. So u20 NPL vic Select vs U20 A-League select.... Would players like Metcalfe Najjarime najjar Pierias Delinov cavallo Atkinson be allowed to play since there all under 20? There's a few more from victory squad I'd ask to play also v the npl U20's.

Whilst Gallop is the CEO of the FFA nothing will happen. He is a penny-pitching lawyer who is overpaid for what he does which is attend bug tournement and games and appointing mates to work for the FFA.

Does anyone know when the draw for January’s 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand takes place?
We are seeded terribly in Pot 3 so really need to hope for a favourable draw.

DAILYTELEGRAPH ›Matildas assistant coach Gary van Egmond on verge of taking over the Young SocceroosEMMA KEMPTHE DAILY TELEGRAPH JUNE 11, 2019 The Daily Telegraph understands Football Federation Australia is in advanced talks with van Egmond to move him away from the women’s national set-up and into the men’s, though the shift has not yet been finalised. The 53-year-old, who also coaches the Young Matildas, has deputised with Australia’s national women’s team as Alen Stajcic’s right-hand man since 2015.Gary van Egmond is favoured to take over as coach of the Young Socceroos. Picture: Getty ImagesThe A-League-winning former Newcastle Jets coach and father of Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond was one of the staff members to remain within the set-up after Stajcic’s controversial sacking in January. He has since guided the Young Matildas through the 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship qualification phase in Myanmar and overseen pre-World Cup training of the senior squad’s Australian-based players.Van Egmond is in France helping new coach Ante Milicic alongside fellow assistant Ivan Jolic. But the Young Socceroos job has been vacant since Milicic took on the Matildas in February, and FFA is keen to fill it before the start of a new Under-20 World Cup cycle, after the team last year failed to qualify for this year’s tournament in Poland.Slater's all-time FFA rantSocceroos and Olyroos coach Graham Arnold has, since as far back as his first Socceroos stint, expressed his desire to work with van Egmond.“I'm a good friend of Dutchy,” Arnold said in 2007. “I'm not a coach who wants to hide anything from other coaches and Dutchy's a good young Aussie coach.“I'd like, if possible. for him to come into camp and for us to pass on our knowledge to him.”It’s unclear who would replace van Egmond at the Matildas, with Milicic to see the team through until the 2020 Olympics, should they qualify.Brisbane Roar W-League coach Mel Andreatta and Canberra United coach Heather Garriock have acted as assistant and both have the credentials. The Young Matildas role would also have to be filled. https://outline.com/q6B2ew

It’s the same dudes FFA keeps passing around through all the jobs.
It’s like musical chairs for Millicic and GVE. Used to be the same with Vidmar. Such uninspiring choices.

Two things to think about:
1. Korean U-20's just made the WC final with half their squad coming from K2 & University Teams.
2. Whoever is the coach of the U-20's is a moot point. The kids need games both for club and country. Until this happens, we won't improve.

GVE is not a good coach, sounds like Arnie giving one of his jobs to his mates.
Surely better options in the NPL set up.

But i agree playing senior football is the key.

Joeys Head Coach Trevor Morgan today confirmed the 23 players he’s selected to represent Australia at the 2019 AFF U-15 Championship in Chonburi, Thailand.
Australia will take on hosts Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, and Brunei Darussalam in Group B of the competition.
Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Singapore, and Philippines will contest Group A, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Semi-Finals of the tournament.
The Group Stage will commence on July 27, while the Final will be held on August 9.
“The 2019 AFF U-15 Championship represents the start of this Joeys age group’s journey to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2021,” Morgan said.
“With a minimum of five and up to seven international matches over the two weeks of the tournament, the AFF U-15 Championship will give the players selected a great introduction to international football.

“Our time in Chonburi will also provide our staff with the chance to work on some key principles with the boys ahead of our 2020 AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers in Vietnam in September this year,” he said.
Ahead of the trip to Thailand the Joeys will hold a brief training camp in Narrabeen north of Sydney.
Seven additional players will join the camp in Narrabeen – Noah Gardner (South Hobart FC, TAS), Jake Girdwood-Reich (Sydney FC, NSW), Julian Monge (Western Sydney Wanderers FC, NSW), Josip Orlovic (Gk) (Sydney United, NSW), Alexander Trajanoski (Blacktown Spartans, NSW), Zac Waddell (Central Coast Mariners FC, NSW), and Jesper Webber (Western Sydney Wanderers FC, NSW).

https://www.ffsa.com.au/news/2018-ffa-national-youth-championships-reviewYoung Bernardo Oliveira is the son of former Adelaide United Cassio. Also big ups to James Nieuwenhuizen for being selected from the GV Suns. I imagine it would've been a lot of effort from his parents to give him the opportunity for this.

A lot of junior national teams competing in the next few months, will be great to see how the teams stack up. Also heard the Young Socceroos are playing in the AFF too come August.

+xplayer of tournament... Oliveira keeper of tournament... Warshawsky unless the majority of these guys have actually had a decent season for their respective teams I'm ok with it. But a lot can change in 10 months. This either shows that these guys are absolute stand-outs or yes, the coaches have been immensely lazy.

I have a feeling in the next few years we will see the foreign players from the aleague having an influence off the field.
Great to see Cassio’s son in Bernardo Olivera there, keen to see what he can do, apparently he’s a genuine attacker who can play at No.10 or out wide unlike his dad. But if he has similar ability to his dad then it will be fun to watch his development.
Outside of that I think it’s a good mix of players, plenty of NPL talent too.
Also to put in context they would have been 6 years old when the curriculum started.

In the 2018 Youth championships I saw the surname Skoko show up. pair that with Chipperfield at Basel, Neill at Liverpool, The Popovic lads, and no doubt others it is extremely cool/exciting to see. And will be awesome to track their careers in the future.
