i really enjoy watching the ffa cup on fox sports when they cut to a goal at another match it's pretty exciting 

how can this occur during normal winter comp.

Not sure. Bit of a scottish restaurant. 

Think i'll go with Bayswater Vs Bris Olympic or Floreat vs Adleaide Olypmic just to see how WANPL fares against other states.

Just saw Campbelltown are playing Melbourne City at their regular home ground.

That was my junior club and I literally just moved house  a few days ago to a 2 minute drive from that ground.

Hahaha nothing has changed there in over 20 years.  Here's a little anecdote from my playing days.

But first a bit of background.  Darwin soccer is mental.  Absolutely bonkers.

There are / were 2 Greek teams up there when I played, Hellenic and Olympic.  (There are purportedly 10 000 ex-pat Greeks or people with Greek heritage in Darwin.)  Whole families were banned from both clubs because of fights in the crowd, ground invasions, threats against officials, on field ruckuses and the rest of the usual good fun you get with your hot-headed swarthy European types.

My wife / girlfriend at the time couldn't believe the carry on at the matches when we first arrived and I started playing.  (Either could I if I'm being honest.)  I thought full on riots at the football was what happened in the NSL or overseas but here it all was in little old Darwin. 

I played for a breakaway team called University Knights that formed in 1996 or 1997.  (Surely defunct by now.)  I'd only arrived the year before.  We had a few ex-Olympic and Hellenic players in our team so any match against either of those teams was just short of a full scale war.  (Though Hellenic vs Olympic match-ups were a step up again.)  Every single game there'd be red cards for violent conduct and at least half a dozen yellows.  How more people didn't get their legs broken I'll never know.

At the end of that season we ended up in the Grand Final against Olympic. 

The week before though we won the semi against Hellenic which was something else again.  Our player / coach was this loopy Greek unit (Kosta) that tried to hypnotise us before one match.  At other times he'd have the boom box blasting out 'phat beats' at a volume that outdid any nightclub at 3am to fire us up.  If any of that wasn't enough for the semi we ran out of the dressing room to warm up and when the referees took the field we (our team) ran back to the change rooms and locked the doors leaving Hellenic out there standing about like spare dicks.  (Don't ask, mind games I think). 

First one or two officials came knocking to say we needed to take the field. 

Someone told them we'd be out soon.  We stayed put.

Linesman came knocking.  Same thing.

Eventually the referee came and said either take the field in the next minute or he's calling a forfeit on our behalf.

The whole thing was probably over in about 10 minutes but it felt like an eternity.  I was like WTF is going on here?!  

Ran out to boos from the crowd and all the rest of it.  Must of worked though because we won that and went through to the final.
   
Anyway a couple of weeks ago I was digging through a box and found a match report from the NT News of the Grand Final I played in 97. (I think.)

We lost that 3-1 with them getting the third in time added on at the end of the game.

Called the kids over and said look at your old boy 'back in the day' in a GF.  Read out a bit about the game and then came across a corker of a sentence.

'10 yellows were handed out and 3 red cards in a fiery affair'.   Hahahaha.  The kids were blown away. 



tl;dr  Darwin football is mental.
