Tyson Savas (16-17) has been selected to represent New Zealand U23 - if you remember, he was the captain and top goalscorer for the the current Joeys cohort early in qualification, however he was curiously left out of the squad for the AFC Championships.

Good news for the Kiwis, He wont be treated like crap as the Aussies have done.

Lol, you just know that savas will turn out to be a great striker and years from now there will be 100 page threads about how we let him go.

O/S? new A-League club, CCM first-team? obscurity? not sure what this means for him tbh. He has. Had been doing well for SFC, scoring 5 in 11 in the 20s, although really hadn’t pushed on like some of the other SFC Joeys players (Teague, Kucharski, Mlinaric, Trenkoski) have, cementing spots in 20s, and getting regular appearance for the first grade side. Sad for a player who seems to have so much potential. Maybe something we don’t know about has gone on?

Aus u19 v Vietnam starting now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX_YK8vb66s
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

its interesting how ineffective possession football is at youth level. Vietnam carved us up when they played a counterattacking game. We then never heard of those vietnamese players again
I can see why it would develop players more efficiently while sacrificing results
The criticism is do you lose a development of a competitive mindset? I think its a fair question

gets a bit of curve on the shot and forces a keeping mistake, we score a tap in off the follow up

possession and territory slightly in favour of vietnam. Chances have been similar quality but we've scored ours
technically we look pretty decent, the power in the short passing seems a lot stronger than previous years and there are some nice effective takeons. I haven't seen the usual easy misses that we expect from australians at all levels so thats nice

I’ve only seen little based on the stream but we seem to sitting back a lot, different from the previous youth teams naive style we played previously.
Tilio, Brook and Iannucci is a decent front 3, strikerless but also technical and mobile and seems to be working.

You look at Liverpool and Man City's successes, they both have very mobile attacking players of similar mould.

Has this squad worked together much or has it only been thrown together a couple of weeks ago?

+xHas this squad worked together much or has it only been thrown together a couple of weeks ago? IIRC they had a training camp before they left for this tourney, so possibly been together for two and a half weeks since the squad was finalised from a 30 man.

poor finish again
twice 1v1 with the GK results in a poor finish. We really need improvement in that area
