Deary me. As if the new regime's incompetence isn't bad enough already with the Socceroos not on FTA, but imagine the hal as well?

Farcical.

I know, if only Steven Lowy was running the game again. He was such as great leader.

Eh, I was naive enough to think that 10 would still have 1 game.

ok, so it's finally confirmed.  What do we make of it?  Is it an opportunity lost, or is of little relevance?
We only have to wait another 3 years in the hope that Optus picks us up.
Another good question:  what does it say about the clubs and their capacity to do a better job at running the A-League?  They can't even get one measly game on a busted ass FTA channel like Ten.

Eh, I was naive enough to think that 10 would still have 1 game.

10 deal was for 2 years only and was a fall back position from original deal where Fox basically bought the spot from 10.

I think issue is Fox pays $50M cash PA for HAL (round numbers), so if you want to take out exclusivity for 2 matches, thats 40% of the weeks matches so you would have to value that at $20M per season. Based on current metrics / ratings and lack of competition for the rights no-one is going to pay.

If 10 says its worth $5M per season for 2 exclusive games, that values the entire league at $12.5M PA ($5M for 10 and $7.5M for Fox) which Fox wont accept as they are taking a bath on the 2 matches, plus would affect their financial results as book value of HAL would need to be written down. Also HAL would not want that as Fox could then re-negotiate as why pay $10M per match when 10 is paying $2.5M.

Either way HAL is in for a major shock soon and the NSD may well be the only national comp (which is why FFA is so interested all of a sudden & Lowy sold out).

    Cool

So no FTA coverage for 4 years and marquee games in Saturday twilight graveyard slot because we were sure there would be

Could have stuck with SBS. But we were so sure the watermark made a difference

I wouldn't say its confimed. its just how things stand right now. But I would just about rather have no FTA deal that have the same deal as last season or have it on SBS Viceland.

no FTA means there are 50,000 less eyeballs watching A-League per round, it must affect sponsorships, at the very least

we can't have another year of the same crap. just can't. either the the independent HAL bites the bullet and helps cover the production costs to ensure we get a good FTA deal, or we have no FTA at all. we can't go through another year of Foxtel paid airtime on 10Bold that gets no promotion and (subsequently) no ratings.

Man the A-league is in the shit when the new rights gets renegotiated.

The owners (and formerly the FFA) eye off the MLS and their massive license fees and think this is the model we should build.  They're in for a rude shock.

In all honesty the sooner it collapses and the whole thing gets rebooted the better.

With an injection of excitment in the comp this year ie. Wanderers at Bankwest, Western Utd fc, improved Mariners and Roar etc, and other metrics, then 12 teams next year, second division the year after, these with a lifting of the salary cap, therefore a continued increase in quality of this product, the league can use this by the next tv rights deal, to negotiate. There must be a glass half full look at things. Not long ago we had a war in Australian soccer at the front desk for three years which set the league back another three years no doubt about it.

have there been negotiations though? there was an article a few weeks ago suggesting the parties hadn't even met to discuss this.

The FFA agreed to schedule games into the graveyard Sat arvo timeslot in the hope that TEN would pick up those games.

If TEN have said no to those games, that is an almighty shank.

No TEN, no FTA, Fox unhappy, KAyo who knows...SBS will you have us back??!!

Whats interesting is 10 are on the record as saying they want two matches and have identified the time slots.

Fox hold the rights and want money from 10.

Fox despite what they say are happy with Football... its the cost they paid for the cricket that has brought very few new subscribers they need to recover...

10 want and appear willing to cover the cost of broadcasting there two matches but want sole broadcast rights.

At USA board room level News & CBS don't like each other... and News is still sulking about missing out on 10 to CBS...

Whats happening is two US media companies are essentially fighting over Australian Football broadcasting...

Its not no one wants it...

10 promos still show the A-League... if they had no plans they would remove Hal from their promos...

Exactly. While the new HAL started running things operationally on 1st August the legal and financial details are running behind.

Any contract for changed broadcast arrangements would be tied up behind that.

NZers & SA may get that for their share of SR and maybe Europe as well but as for Australian Broadcasters there is no F...G way Rugby will be luckily to be even broadcast in Australia...

Rugby is now a summer sport taking away view ship from HAL just like WAFL and Cricket. But back to the thread I highly doubt HAL will be back on CH10 at all.

It’s now the worlds fourth best rugby competition after the European Cup, English Premiership and Frances domestic league.

Man the A-league is in the shit when the new rights gets renegotiated.

Certainly looks that way with this new mob of no-hopers in charge. And if they can't beat Lowy's 6 year old deal, then that would be an epic fail.
