+x+xAll round, those ratings aren't too bad. It looks like 50k has become our new ceiling, for both FTA and Fox. Yeah, pretty good ratings. To be honest I'm so overwhelmed I cried a little That's an odd reaction.

As bluebird points out, people dont watch games because of ratings, they watch for what they get on the night and those 48k who watched the derby wont be disappointed. Up against NZ/England world cup semi as well.

It is truly amazing how games that used to draw over 100k now cant get half that. I would really love to hear the Lowy's put their spin on why and how their mantra of sustainability fits into the scheme of things. After all this time we are below where we started.

I wouldn't say below, but both ratings and attendances are pretty much bang on our very first season. Mind you, I don't necessarily see that as being all that bad, as long as it doesn't dip below, and as long as we enjoy occasional upswings, which I think we will from time to time. Also, we have to accept that as we expand, averages will drop because it will be a rarity that any new club manages to hit the average very first season. Wanderers was the exception, expect most new entrants to be closer to WU, the Nix, GCU and the Fury.

+xLast nights game got 40k be interesting to see what the derby gets so at least 52,000 if you add 30% streaming. +xSydney derby 48k fox jets vs adl 22k Fox sydney derby at least 62,000 if you add 30% streaming. jets v adelaide at least 29,000 if you add 30% streaming and 49,000 on the ABC (no idea how many would watch on iview). I don't think 80,000 combined is terrible for a fixture that isn't exactly sexy.

+xwhere have you got 30% figure for streaming? nothing official. it’s an estimation based on numerous debates here about the streaming numbers. Many will argue they are far higher than 30%, and should be used as a minimum base point.

And then if you add 20% for replay-viewers, 15% for youtube, 10% for those at the stadium who were watching on screens while waiting for their food, another 10% for those who caught the ABC news highlights, 8% for Facebook mini-viewers, a 5% weather multiplier, and finally the standard 5% for those who watch via the dark web, the derby ratings were actually around the 400k mark - which is excellent. :)

Yesterday's Fox ratings absolutely dominated by supercars, RWC and T20, cuts out at 66k, which is an extremely high cut-off point. Clearly no one is streaming these sports.

Just about as solid as any weekend during the Winter.

I think events like the RWC and WBBL are good examples of the fact that there is no such thing as "clear air" anymore. and its a very good argument to dump the stupid idea of kicking off in october.

That can be taken two ways - the first is the ratings are less than impressive and the second it’s just a continuation of Fox trying to grind down the sokkha folk. Im personally enjoying Kayo but the occasional glitch and slight time delay is something you have to live with. Plus I’ve had to spend an extra $20/month upgrading to unlimited broadband with Telstra due to the increase in streaming. But so far do good and I’m enjoying the mini matches as much as the main games (although what’s included in the mini’s leaves something to be desired, they left out the Broxham handball from Friday’s game lol).

Kayo started during last season. The only Kayo figures I have seen came out during AFL/NRL season, so, unsurprisingly, A League figures did not feature. This season is only a couple of weeks old, and no Kayo figures have been released so far, which given how rarely streaming figures are released, is hardly a surprise So no conspiracy necessary.

I noticed that. What's the deal with that ffs? On a related note, I watched the SBS highlights of the FFA cup final when I got home. They showed 3 out of 4 United goals and a missed chance by City. Now that's just ridiculous aha

People should expect tv ratings to be down since Foxtel lost rights to EPL, Champions League, Europa League, and even internationals.
Pretty much every single mate of mine got rid of Foxtel instantly and therefore don't watch the A-league because of that.

Sports Industry tweet: After 3 rounds of the 2019-20 Aleague season,..Metro tv ratings on the ABC average 47,000 for the season whole Fox ratings average around 40k - with 4 games n/r (not registering, not sure if that means the average is beloe 40k because he has ignored the four games without stats, or whether he merely incorporated 20th ranked rating for the day as a proxy to work out the average)

Mostly because the cutoff was so high on the 2 Sundays that are missing (v8s dominated the Fox top 20 both times - Bathurst and Gold Coast) that ratings could be anywhere up to 60k per match. Problem is in that situation, if mediaweek doesnt report them, then nobody does.

Under those circumstances, using the 20th ranked show as a proxy becomes too inaccurate, because it's likely to be much higher than the actual rating. If it was something closer to 45k, you could get away with it.

The Roar Supporters Federation (RSF) run regular polls on their members and no, no ones yet been publicly shamed and sacked (see, it can be done FFA).
Since the arrival of Kayo we’ve polled where people watch the A League, in the latest poll nearly 300 people responded with:
53% watching on Kayo/Telstra 47% on Fox Sports
(a concurrent poll on twitter gave 40% Kayo, 18% Telstra, 42% Fox Sports - with 67 respondents)
so today, it’s 1:1 ... for everyone that watches on Fox someone else is watching on Kayo/Telstra.
At the end end of last season the ratio was 3:1 with a little over three people watching Fox for every one on Kayo.
About last March the ratio was 5:1 with five watching on Fox for every single viewer on Kayo.
A few observations - these are just random polls, there’s no control/science/rigour behind them so they always come with a pinch of salt. The question asks where they watch not how often - so although the ratio is 1:1 today, we’ve no idea if that translates to 1:1 viewing
so what does it mean?
Well it paints a clear picture - Kayo is popular and increasingly more popular than Fox Sports.
It means Kayo/Telstra are significant viewing platforms for the A League.
It means attempts to minimise or dismiss alternate viewing platforms to Fox are flawed.
