Without him, the ball stalls in midfield and Jamo has to do all the work by himself.

The Jamo - Cassio left wing overlap thing they do so well is one of the key attack stragedies we are missing right now.

We need Cassio back and Cristiano to start and I do not know what is situation with Diego as there has not been any news about him for a while

Seeing as you lot are as close to being out as you can be, since you need half the goals you have scored away from home all season in one game.

The Highway has a good beer garden with a good chicken parmy.

Hmmm... that's another option. I've yet to enjoy the atmosphere at the Highway, and since I'm from the south-west of town, I'd say that's probably a better suited place for me too.

Well Reds, mate I usually go to the Alma also - as I live in nearby Payneham....and yes the parmys are very good.

I've been away in Darwin all week for work and my wife would have killed me if I went out tonight to watch the game.

Anyway, it looks like she did me a big favour by keeping me home.

I would like to say that I'm 100% behind Aurelio Vidmar and that every step should be taken to weed out bad eggs in the club whether that be players board members or whoever. Just as long as AV stays at the helm.

A few days ago I would have been against this as it is outside the spirit of the game etc. (worse than the griffiths signing) Not so sure anymore tho

Oh well, why the hell not. It cant get any worse right now.

FINANCIAL cutbacks, boardroom politics and player discontent are believed to be the factors that culminated in Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar's extraordinary outburst following the club's 4-0 loss to Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

A club insider said yesterday there had been rumblings of discontent since Adelaide revealed it was releasing stalwart Ange Costanzo, Brazilian Diego and midfielder Jonas Salley.

It appears Vidmar has been a slow burning fuse to a time bomb that eventually exploded and tore the heart out of a club that only three months ago had been hailed as the fairytale story of Australian sport after reaching the final of the Asian Champions League.

Vidmar apologised yesterday for describing Adelaide, the city, as a "pissant town". And after a crisis meeting with club owners and officials, United released a statement saying the issues the coach raised had been resolved.

But Vidmar did not retreat from his claims that United was a club riven by egos, jealousies and political manoeuvring.

"It was a disgrace, an absolute disgrace," Vidmar said on Saturday night. "We owe the world an apology. A performance like that was a disgrace.

"Politics. That's what I put it down to. There's too many people at this club with hidden agendas. That's the problem. That 4-0 result tonight was politics. Nothing else.

"Whether you're involved directly or indirectly, you have an effect. It has an effect on everyone. And that 4-0 result was because of that. Because of a pissant town, this club will never win anything until you get rid of that crap.

"Things change very quickly in football clubs. Very quickly. If you've been around football clubs for a while you'll understand.

"If someone's not happy with something, they'll do whatever they can to fracture it. That's what they do. Whether it's jealousy or whatever it is, whether it's ego, it certainly smacks of all that at our club at this time.

"It's not about not trying. It's the underlying things that are happening around the club at this point of time has an effect on everyone. I'm not going to name names, everyone's involved."

Insiders said yesterday that pressure had been building at the club and, in particular on Vidmar, for at least six weeks.

They painted a grim picture revolving around financial problems, discontent among some of the players as well as some boardroom politics.

Despite reports Adelaide will end up with close to $3 million from the ACL and World Club Championship campaigns, it is understood management staff have been instructed to cut costs at the club in order to rein in a supposed $500,000 shortfall.

"From what I can understand, the club needs to shell some jobs, and some of the ones who might lose their jobs are close to Vidmar," the source explained.

It is believed player discontent also goes to the heart of the problems at the club.

The axing of the popular Costanzo, who has signed a one-year deal with Newcastle Jets for next season, caused a deep rift in the dressing room and boardroom.

Costanzo, Diego and Salley were banished to the youth team at a time the club was struggling.

"The defence has been a shambles and you can't tell me there was no room for a player the quality of Costanzo," an insider said. "I believe the excuse was that his knees are gone, but he knows his body and he says he was fit enough to do a good job.

"The other thing is that there are some people putting the bullets in the gun and letting poor Viddy pull the trigger."

There are also suggestions of a dressing room split and that United's Brazilian trio of Cristiano, Cassio and Alemao have been unhappy recently.

Cassio certainly looked like a troubled soul after being sent off against Victory, then making an obscene gesture at fans as he walked off the field.

It was also revealed that while Diego, who has signed with Wellington Phoenix for next season, played several youth team games, he became so upset with the situation that he refused to travel to Melbourne for a youth team match recently.

While leading football identities jumped to Vidmar's defence, saying his reaction was out of character, one source said he was an accident waiting to happen as he has not had a break for two years. "He is mentally shagged," he said.

Despite the controversy, Vidmar was given a vote of confidence yesterday by the United board following the "clear the air" meeting with owners Nick Bianco and Dario Fontanarosa, chairman Mel Patzwald and chief executive Sam Ciccarello.

Regardless of Cassio's brain-fart on Saturday night, I don't want to see him gone either.

No questions we need to retain Cassio.

Cristiano - well it looks like we are signing the J League striker so the question is - can he play with Cristiano? Is Cristiano the best option for a striker next year or can we do better?

I rate Christiano but his speed worries me. He would be better partnered up front with someone that can do the running for him.

Maybe this Japanese guy is fairly quick.

Dadi and Ruka both made each other look excellent this year because they complimented each other in exactly this way.

I was reading somewhere about Tahara's scoring ability - on average, one goal every 9 games or something... He might not be that great alone up front, but like you guys have said, linking him up with Cristiano might just prove to be a winning formula. With backups such as Younis and hopefully Monterosso as the junior marquee, we should have a decent enough forward line to change the game a little.
