one thing we have to do is when they have the footbal go to them not let them run to us

we need our back 4 to play as well as we did last time, if they are not ahead by 1/2 way through the 2nd half Melb will get fustrated.

we need to keep the crowd out of it and early

viddie and the boys need to be on the front foot from min 1 or else we are gone

Loki your being to literal, Cassio & Dodd will be coming off the wings into the middle and we will have an ineffectual lone striker somewhere or other on the park. Vargas and Muscat will be the ones who will be playing against Cassio & Dodd, with Jamo & Mullen coming up the park to provide the "crosses".

At the other end Allsopp & Archie will be primarily against Cornflakes & Og, but they will also have Jamo & Mullen to deal with.

This is only because AUFC go up the wings and then centre, MV go up the middle & then either look to go straight into the box or to the far post (which is a good tactic for your teamsheet). This means that or CDs will be against your strikers, and your CDs will be against our wingers. Now if your wingbacks (as they did in the semis) stop our wingers from being able to move into the centre of the park then you will have again nullified our attack. I am hoping that AUFC playing two holding midfielders in Salley & Reid to nullify MVs creative spark and so your attacking threat forcing you into route one attacks (which will play into AUFC's hands). Of course if both of our defences are too strong then both sides may opt for route one and that will get very fustrating!

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

Anyone hear the 5AA interview tonight with Salley and Agostino? Not a bad interview with Salley being all sincere and Ago poking a bit of fun at him.

Ago said he will probably come on in the second half. :-k

Salley said he wants to stay in Adelaide and will wait to see if we make him an offer after the GF - before he accepts any other offers....but he didnt really want ot discuss it with a GF looming. Interesting.

Salley also claimed fame to being the Reds 'best dancer' with Ago saying something like - 'and you proud of that???'

Thanks a lot MvFCArsenal16.8, may the best team win on Saturday night.

I don't believe I have heard any concrete evidence that Salley has been offered a contract in a CSL outfit as of yet. He has been pursuing one, is all I've heard. On the other hand, I did read today that Miron Bleiberg wants Salley for his lineup if any Asian deals fall through.

I'd love for him to stay at AUFC but unfortunately I think that it's a given we have to part ways with him.

And good luck to you. Lets hope its a fair, hard fought and skillful game and not over by half time due to any bad ref decisions.

not sure about the robes thing mate - but Jamo has been quoted in an interview as saying that before a game Salley has the most unusual ritual: Covering his total body in moisturiser over a 25 minute period. For one of the leagues hard men he must have very soft skin.

Yes I saw that article - Miron is quoted as saying he "phoned Salley's agent at half time to seal the deal". salley would defintely find a nice cushy home there on the Gold Coast playing big games next to Culina. Whatever happens I hope it all works out for him.

$20 on Adelaide to win... at last look, the odds were @ $4.75... :D

maybe he wants to keep him but the board are being stingy on what they want to pay players (part of the internal politics he talked about)

as for not playing him, he was left out of the ACL beause of beurocratic bungle that said he was a forigner and because the team did so well Viddie wanted to keep the same side (if it aint broke dont fix it) Fine you could of argued when we were in our 'slump' Salley could of played but whats wrong with a coach having faith in the players who served him well to that point

I'd just like to distract you from the GF for a moment with an update on Isyan Erdogan's next move
Quote:

Hume City pounce on Adelaide United defender

Sunday 22 February 2009

HUME City has signed former Adelaide Untied defender Isyan Erdogan on the eve of the Victorian Premier League season, which kicks off this weekend.

Erdogoan comes to Hume City FC with an impressive playing history and will fit right into position, most likely down back.

Erdogan said he had fully recovered from nagging hamstring problems which affectively ended his A-League stay with the Reds, ,and was looking forward to tasting success with his new club.

“This is literally my own backyard as I grew up down the road, went to school around the corner and am now to play premier league minutes from home.

”I have come to Hume City FC because I have played with most of the boys, I have been coached by Goran before and know what to expect.

”Most importantly, I want to taste success.”

Erdoğan has been plying his trade with various Victorian Premier League clubs after playing for former NSL clubs Carlton SC and the Melbourne Knights.

He signed with Adelaide United in the A League for the 2007-08 season, going on to make 13 appearances.

But constant injury woes led to his termination in January this year.

”I had a great time whilst with Adelaide, and we had a lot of our own success playing in the Asian Champions League final,” he said.

”It was great to be apart of the club, but this is now a new chapter of my playing career.

”I have been training with the team for over two weeks and am very impressed with the quality of the boys, especially the younger ones.

”There are some great premier league names here, it’s just a matter of mixing it all together”

Hume City coach Goran Lozanovski was excited to have a player with current A-League experience in his squad.

“Isyan will add plenty of grit to our defence, he is smart and is a great team man,” Lozanovski said.

”We are excited to have him at the club”

Erdogan will line up this weekend against Altona Magic in the first round of the 2009 Victorian Premier League.

Thanks Krackovich! I was always disapointed with Erdogan: not because he was a poor player but because he never got to really show us what he was capable of. Glad he is still going to be playing football.

Article from: The Australian
IT is one of the most daunting and terrifying jobs in Australian club soccer, but if Robert Cornthwaite is losing any sleep over it, he wasn't showing it yesterday.

Indeed, you wouldn't think the weight of a state rests on his shoulders and that of fellow central defensive partner Sasa Ognenovski ahead of Saturday's grand final against minor premier Melbourne Victory.

The South Australians may be given little chance by the bookmakers to beat a red-hot Melbourne side that boasts the most feared attack in the competition with Archie Thompson and Danny Allsopp, but it doesn't cut any ice with Cornthwaite.

"Yeah, they (Thompson and Allsopp) are two of the biggest names in the league ... they are fantastic strikers," Cornthwaite said. "Their records are great and they have been doing the job for a few seasons now.

"But, in the end, they are just two players out of eleven. Don't forget, they also have players like Carlos Hernandez, Nicky Ward and Tommy Pondeljak who can hurt you if you let them. Melbourne have quality all over the park so you can't fall into the trap of targeting two."

Still trying to keep the two internationals quiet will be no mean feat, especially since Adelaide has lost all five matches against Victory this season.

According to Cornthwaite, it's a job that should be shared around.

"The best way to stop them is to cut off their supply from midfield," he said. "Even our strikers can play a role in that.

"Our midfield showed last week that they can do the job when they closed down Massimo Murdocca and Matt McKay."

Preparing to play in his first grand final, Cornthwaite, 23, says winning the title would be the pinnacle for him.

"It will be my first grand final at senior level and I can't wait to get out there," he said. "It's what you play for. I think that's the one the fans want to win the most."

Cornthwaite, who has emerged as one of the best young defenders in the country during the past two seasons, was almost a part of United's nightmare grand final appearance two seasons ago.

A raw-boned defender at the time, he played eight games in the 2006-07 season, but then coach John Kosmina left him out for the season decider. United went on to lose 6-0 with Thompson scoring five goals and Kosmina eventually losing his job.

While Cornthwaite has a healthy respect for Victory, he is confident there will be no repeat of the 2007 debacle.

"The mood in camp has been great," he added. "We know they have had the wood on us this season, but we can turn it around.

"Of course, they are beatable, they've lost this season. Obviously we haven't beaten them, but there has only been one goal in it on three occasions, so we are quietly confident that we can do the job."

While the focus has been on the Allsopp-Thompson pairing, Cornthwaite said it isn't beyond him and Ognenovski to provide some attacking flair of their own.

They are towering defenders who are good in the air and can cause problems at the other end of the field. "Sasa and I have both got one away from home this season so hopefully come Saturday, one of us can get our head on the end of a cross, free kick or corner and score," he said.

Good interview from Robbie, very level headed responses. Nice counter point to Archie ;)

Agreed, I have never really found Adelaide boring, I occasionally find them frustrating but not boring, the style that Adelaide plays wins them games, it has given them success, although I would love to score more goals a 1-0 result can be just as exciting, intense pressure is imo just as good as fast free flowing football.

Playing to our strength is the key to this one, against Melbourne we dont seem to do this.

Ive looked at our losses the only time we were really "beaten" was the two finals (other games were close enough for either team to win) and they were the only timse we were 4-4-2

We dont need to change our formation - just tweak the tactics thats all.

Have you noticed that Val seems to have been frozen out by basically the entire AUFC club?

ADELAIDE United promises there will be no repeat of the infamous sulking that soured their last A-League grand final when they play Melbourne on Saturday.

In 2007, the shame of a 6-0 loss to the Victory was heightened by the postgame bleating that saw captain Ross Aloisi describe the refereeing as a "disgrace" while veteran striker Carl Veart said "three blind mice" could have done a better job officiating.

Then coach John Kosmina, who was to pay for the loss with his job, observed that "the dark forces of the universe had etched that result in concrete before the first whistle had gone".

Combined with Adelaide's 4-0 defeat in Melbourne a fortnight ago to surrender the major semi-final 6-0 on aggregate, United have much bad history to erase through the manner of their attitude and performance.

Mindful of this, coach Aurelio Vidmar plans to address his players on the subject of respecting the occasion.

"We're going to have a chat about all those things tomorrow. I guarantee you there'll be no repeats of 2007," Vidmar said today.

United flew into Melbourne today to prepare for the big day, satisfied his charges were ready to give their best in the final - something the team failed dismally to do both two years and two weeks ago.

"I was a little concerned with that (hype)," Vidmar said. "Two years ago it was really hectic that week, there were a lot of things on, everyone was running around like mad people and trying to get things organised - this week has been really relaxed, not much fanfare.

"Whether that's because we're going into the game as massive underdogs I don't know, but certainly everyone is relaxed, and very happy with how we've led into this week."

There will be few changes to the line-up that scraped past Queensland 1-0 in the preliminary final, with the return of Brazilian winger Cassio the only real selection poser for Vidmar.

Fullback Scott Jamieson soldiered through training this morning - Adelaide's second closed session of the week - and will probably play with the help of an injection, meaning Cassio has to displace one of five midfielders if he is to start.

Vidmar said it was crucial to keep the team's focus on what can be done tactically, and gave short shrift to suggestions there would be any more attempts to rough up the likes of Carlos Hernandez after similar actions were met with stern refereeing in the major semi.

"We're not going to target anyone," Vidmar said.

"All we've got to worry about is doing our job, and doing it very, very well.

"They've beaten us five times so they've got something right, but all the games before the major semi-final were all pretty close.

"Now it's 90 minutes, a one-off game, a grand final and anything can happen - we can't do any worse than last time we were over there."

Maybe Daniel is the new Val? Lets hope.
