Sure we are going to have to recuit well enough for how we played tonight to work as a full time tactic for us. It will depend on how the new owners are able to finance getting those players. And even after the great year Viddie has had, this year will make him a better coach in the long run.
Light is at the end of the tunnel - im emotionally drained atmo to be upset Will be an intersting off season to see who we recruit. Gonna head down to the fan day tommorow. Cant understand why they have it tommorow, not sure if they players will even be back Emotions are starting to get the better of me and im now pretty close to being sover, better go to sleep. Will check the forum in the morning. Everything was going perfect today, why couldn't we just win, would have made it a perfect day.one free coffee, one free curry, work was fast and resonably quiet, .somehoe picked the exact amount of letters for drop of, and won a raffle. Damn couldn't complete the perfect day.

Gah... just got home. :p
Was watching the game at my friend's garage using a projector he had and I think the whole neighbourhood was wondering why we kept yelling every 5 minutes or so! :D
The game made me proud to be an AUFC supporter and the boys did us all proud. I still can't believe Breeze took out the red for Cristiano though. Even with 10 men, we played magnificent football, and although we had the bus parked out the back, we still managed to get forward with some decent fluidity.
Like all you guys, I will probably wait another 24hrs or so until all the childish comments have come and gone, before I return to the forums. I shall head down to Hindmarsh tomorrow for the Members' Day too.
Does anyone know when the boys get back from Melbourne tomorrow? I want to be there to greet them back.

I really sympathise with you blokes. Just keep as much of your current team and you will win the title soon enough.

Just got back from the Fans Day. The players were great considering last night and it was great to catch up with the boys before Thursday nights Socceroos game as well. Jamo won't be able to make it to Canberra coz his ankle's still not 100%. Cristiano mentioned he's lookng forward to his holiday and will be heading back to BraZil next week. Younis was a great guy too and talked about next season while we watched the kids show their skllls in front of goal.
A great day out. Would have been that much better if we had the toilet seat.

Who from your youth team would you expect to be playing regularly in the A-League next season? You'd assume Malik and Monterosso? Also heard De Bono is a promising player.

Yeah all three have been pretty good this last season. I should have asked Viddie but he was pretty intent on focussing on his well earned break.

OK back on deck, though still feeling gutted by Breeze. Need to see if anyone I know has a copy of last nights game as I need to re-watch it - like playing with a sore tooth! Can't believe we have a huge break until the new season begins, and am worried that Cristiano is going to get more than the 3 week ban for the straight red after he made comments to the media...

Proud of the boys! It was a fantastic effort considering the circumstances.
Tell me why are we getting rid of Jonas Salley?
I would put my name to a petition to keep him

I didn't get much chance to talk to Salley yesterday, he was up on the stage signing autographs for nearly the entire time with a big smile on his face all that time. I managed to finally get a hold of him near the end, and asked if he knew where he was going next. All he said was, "Yes." :p
Ago on the other hand, I stood and talked to him for a quite a bit too. He's such a nice guy though.

Something not right about a player that is surplus to requirements starting the 2 most important domestic games of the season.
Absolutely gutted about saturday night. Very proud of the boys.
Must be the last time Breeze is in charge of an AU v MV match.

Now that we can finally settle down to the off-season, I'm looking forward to any announcements regarding signings for next season. Who do you guys think will be coming back to join us?
I'm still looking forward to seeing Yutaka Tahara on our roster...

I'm still looking forward to seeing Yutaka Tahara on our roster... Would love to as well, but last I heard he had headed back to Japan... How about convincing Philani to come play for us? Or that young bloke who plays for Indonesia? (he was in the last Asian cup and also played against... MV? in the ACL)

I think we only have two import spots (one new one and Diego's spot) so most of the new players will have to be Australian citizens. So, some judicious raiding and some intelligent scouting of overseas players like Jamo and Reid would appear to be on the cards.

This is the post I have been looking for all during my lunch break at work! Big Unit wrote:I havent seen anything yet on this site re the new players we are looking at for next season.
As reported in todays Advertiser, we are talking to the following:
1. Yukata Tahara -Kyoto Sanga J League stiker - 26 YO. 32 goals in 144 matches.
2. Datsakorn Thonglao - Thai national captain - 25 YO. Playing in Vietnamese league. Had a loan spell for Kaiserslautern.
3. Adam Hughes - 26 YO. Played in Uefa champions league with Irelands Drogheda United.
4. Scott Balderson -18 YO. Currenlty playing in England for Stevenage Borough.
5. Players from Italy - Petrillo "our network is getting much bigger"
Wow - some of these guys sound iteresting.
What do you other Red supporters think? Gotta start looking over these names again. So far, only Tahara has been mentioned more than once. :p Some of the home-grown Youth League talent which has been thrown around the park are: 1. Francesco Monterosso - leading scorer in the Youth League, not yet contracted to the senior team. May be scouted to a European team? 2. Osama Malik - quick, agile, looking like a certain signing for the senior team for next season. 3. Michael De Bono - skills still raw, may still need some development before being promoted to the senior side. Edited by redsunited: 3/3/2009 02:42:07 PM

I noticed you on here for ages! Thanks, the guy I thought was indonesian is the Thai captain Datsakorn Thonglao - he was very interested in coming here and a good player to boot. I am pretty sure that Tahara is not being signed. Would be happy to be wrong. Monterosso & Malik are looking good to be given senior contracts, but will be pretty raw... Haven't heard anything else as of yet, but I am sure that things will start sloshing around over the next few months.

And here's the official announcement from the club website: Quote:Reds rebuilding begins with Hughes & Marrone signings Tuesday, 3 March 2009Adelaide United FC has started to rebuild its squad for next season, with the signing of Irish based Australian midfielder Adam Hughes. The Reds have secured Hughes on a two year deal, as the club begins its search for replacements for the seven players that will move on from the club before next season. In other good news, Adelaide United has also signed talented local defender Michael Marrone into it’s Hyundai A-League squad on a one year contract, after he was a member of Adelaide United’s Youth squad in 2008/09. Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar is excited by the prospect of Hughes returning to Australia and he has no doubts the 26 year old will bring a lot of positive attributes to the club. “He’s going to bring a lot of aggression and commitment and a good football brain to the team,” Vidmar said. “He’ll certainly fit in on the competitive side and bring something extra to our midfield, which is an ability to score goals. He’s a great character and he’ll certainly be a crowd pleaser for the fans.” Having kept track on the Hyundai A-league and Adelaide United’s progress through the AFC Champions League during his time in Europe, Hughes cannot wait to be part of The Reds’ squad and the Australian competition. “It will be a brilliant start to come back to what has been a successful club in such a short period of the A-League. To make the final in a couple of seasons and get to the Asian Champions League Final, you know you’re coming to a quality setup,” Hughes said. “Adelaide seems to be doing well consistently and you always want to go to a club that can make finals and be there towards the end of the season.” Hughes’ appointment to Adelaide United follows a similar path to that of fellow Reds signings Scott Jamieson and Paul Reid, who also returned to Australia from European clubs. Reid and Jamieson’s return has paid off as they were both recently made their Qantas Socceroos debuts and this is something that influenced Hughes’ decision to come back to Australia. “It’s definitely one of my goals coming back to the country. I want to get the foot in the door with Adelaide and do well, and then hopefully I am there about and can get selected for the national team one day,” Hughes said. Hughes has spent the past three years in the Irish Premier League, moving from Sligo Rovers to Drogheda United, where he netted eight times in 2008 before his contract was terminated late last year due to a financial crisis at the club. The goal scoring midfielder’s departure from Drogheda allowed The Reds to pick him up on a free transfer and he is expected to join Adelaide’s squad for the start of pre-season training in April. In his time with Drogheda, Hughes also got valuable big game experience when he took part in the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers, scoring a goal against recognised Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev. “He’s been a captain for Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United so he’s going to bring that extra bit of leadership that we need on and off the park,” Vidmar said. Hughes has also previously played alongside Reds Captain Travis Dodd for Newcastle United back in the old NSL. Marrone was a member of The Reds’ Youth squad for the inaugural National Youth League season and was also included in United’s squad for the AFC Champions League Knockout Stage and FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, the 22 year old making his senior debut appearance when he came on as a substitute in the play-off match against African champions Al Ahly. Vidmar said Adelaide born Marrone had proven he was capable of playing at senior level, the defender showing great composure in the games he was called in for. “The times that he’s needed to step in, with limited preparation in terms of time spent with the senior team, he’s demonstrated that he’s able to compete at this level so we’re really pleased with that and to see another local lad get an opportunity,” Vidmar said. “Having the Youth league has certainly helped the preparations and the future of the senior team, especially for Michael being one of the older boys.” Hughes and Marrone join former Sydney FC defender Iain Fyfe as the club’s confirmed new signings for next season with more to be announced during the off season. Adam Hughes looks like he is going to be a winner. He is coming from what I would imagine to be a pretty tough league. He is a 26 YO Aussie - much like Paul Reid - and has a desire to play in the national team. From the stats it is also obviuos he can score goals. Cool.
I would imagine he is going to slot into Salleys/Diegos position.
So for next year this is how it is looking so far:
Keeper - Gone: Beltrame Signed: Galekovic (if he stays), Birighitti, ?
Back line options - Gone : Costanzo, Ogga, Valkanis, Erdogan Signed: Mullen, Cornflakes, Alemao, Jamo, Fyfe, Marrone (6)
Midfield options - Gone: Diego, Salley, Spags Signed: Reid, Sarkies, Cassio, Barbiero, Dodd, Pantelis, Hughes, Griffiths (loan?) (8)
Striker options - Gone: Agostino, Signed: Younis, Cristiano (2)

I definitely like the sound of Hughes. (hopefully those goal scoring stats aren't inflated by penalties) Here is a clip of some Sligo Rovers goals (hughes scores the first and last) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApCPAjE1IOYAny word/rumour on whether Griffiths is staying or not
