I said nothing about RF's playing career and I never said anything about RF and generating 'interest'. Stop strawmanning.

I still remain completely unconvinced about RF and his Royal Brigade of Duds. Wow, the Roar have won one half of a football game. Do it again next week and the week after and the week after that and so on. I have praised RF for improving the Roar's defensive capabilities, something JA never truly fixed. I have praised O'Shea - he's no Thomas Broich but I can see why he's been bought. He's got some creativity and vision to open up space and create good scoring opportunities for duds like ROD. AAH actually looks lively and should continue to be up front - not Brad Inman. Lastly, I will give RF this - though he's a green coach, he is learning quicker than JA did from both stints at Heart and the Roar. Identifying the defence needs to be fixed, appointing an experienced assistant and not his equally inexperienced brother, and hauling off McGing for JCP. (Hopefully that shows all HAL clubs he should never signed up ever again)

Still doesn't change the fact up to the second half against City, his team only scored 1 goal in 4.5 games and conceded 3 despite having what you and other RF nuthuggers have said 'the best defence in the league'.

Your ovaries are making you hysterical, fren!

Good improvement!! Some sense there!

now just drop the feminine connotations and we'll all be happy.

well up until last game we did have the best defence in the league. conceding the least amount of goals, conceding the least amount of shots against and having the best percentage of tackles won.

the city game threw things out a little with goals conceded (WSW are on 4 we are second best on 6) but we still have the least amount of shots against and have the best tackle success rate.

(and ill note that we are yet to play the bottom 3 teams so that bodes well for us)

Okay, I’m losing track of the excuses. I suggest we keep a log:

Sydney (A) - “Ahh, preseason doesn’t count see”

Glory (A) - “Glory weren’t fit”

Victory (H) - “Nabbout went off injured”

WSW (A) - “WSW had a hang-over from the Derby”

Adelaide (A) - “Roar had the wrong sort of chances”

City (H) - “it was the wrong type of wind”

Im sure that we could improve on these, which may be necessary, seeing as it appears improbable Fowler has created a side that’s proved tough for anyone to beat and after six attempts every game has been close.

Good idea, but I'm unsure if the forum could take the volume of posts

Hey we won a game against the top team at the time.We scored four goals and should have had another penalty.
You cant do that if you are crap.
We also ,had our missing left back  and lucky charm,JCP play  for the first time.We would most likely  have won all our games if he had played.
Onwards and upwards from here .

It’s interesting how you can see some patterns emerging now, both good and bad.

When they get it wrong Roar have got more reverse gears than an Italian tank and can’t seem to play the ball forward at all.

When they get frustrated they lob the ball long more in hope than a planned move (but city used the long ball way more than Roar did)

Then there’s some good stuff, when they do play forward they can open sides up - our first goal was a beauty.

And our second goal came from a familiar set play with the ball sent across the goal and nodded back across the goal for a dinked goal

God we get all bent out of shape over nothing ...when we lose we whinge ...when we win...we whinge .

I saw our team pay poorly first half . I screamed and moaned with everyone else .
We were not competitive.
...but then the coach did something highly unusual at the Roar in recent years .....he changed the team and formation ....before halftime !!!!
Second half more changes were made and the team dominates and wins .
Pretty hard for me to see the negatives in that .
Team plays poorly so coach makes positive changes and wins game .

Sounds like proper coaching to me ....

It’s easy to see how we could have lost this, but didn’t; and in the same way easy to see how we could have won all our games this season, but didn’t.

The reality of this team is somewhere in between these extremes and it’s going to be fun watching where they end up.

Do any of yous know what is going on with the active support? Apparently several people were denied entry at Dolphin Stadium for no reason. Popped up on facebook.

The Den has never been that decent, however it was at its peak during the 'glory years' due to obvious decent results on the field and a committee who worked hard to earn a good relationship with the club enabling them with a number of perks such as capo stand, expanding the active area to 3 bays, closing off Caxton street for pre match marches, just to name a few.

Then a new steering committee came in who over time lost the respect from a number of members in the home end and due to certain issues, they were later on stripped of their leadership. We are now at a point where our active support is pretty well non existent. We have an active area with very little cohesion and colour as you would see in decent home ends such as the cove and RBB.

Unfortunately until we find a group who's interest is solely having the best possible active end and having a decent relationship with Brisbane Roar FC we will still find ourselves in this situation where there is next to zero atmosphere/chants at Suncorp & Redcliffe.

You only looked dangerous in the last five minutes. Is that Robbie Fowler's game plan? Play like shit for 85 minutes and then do all the work the last five?

Let’s face Brisbane are rubbish and can only play when they risk everything and have nothing to lose.
Six games now and consistent rubbish in the first half.
The defence is losing its grit as well.
I can’t see much upside from here .Unless CCM stay worse .

Well looks like  it is going to be a repeat of last season. Can't see many wins unfortunately. Fowler didn't learn from last week and started mcging. Roy back to the status quo, looking terrible. I said at half time last week that I would be surprised if Roy didn't get benched, it's hard to bench a sometime who does a hat trick but he has only scored 1 from open play in 6 (and probably a few more blanks in preseason too). Good  thing we signed him for 2 years. Gilesphie at fault for at least 2 last week and 1 this week but I'm sure he will start next week, killing the fans morale a little each week.

If mcging starts next week I'm done with this season.

As I said on the match thread, I would rather we finish last than have Fowlers UK div 3 and 4 recruitment strategy payments off. He hasn't just got it wrong - he's disrespected out competition, and I'm very happy glad to see egg on his face.

It's clear now after six rounds,The HAL has improved beyond Fowlers expectations since he last played..
The players he brought in are level below what is required to win anything.
Dredging the lower leagues has barely produced one passable player. That is O'Shay.
His Aussie recruits have been poor. He hasnt brought in one standout aussie player.
This a CCM standard ,bottom of the league team. They can play okay for periods of the game but are not good enough to control games and to win them consistently .
The way forward is to start with youth and bring in high quality players.

Milan Duric is way better than any of the British duds Fowler recruited. Sam Silvera and Danny De Silva are way better than a lot of the Roar players.

Agree. Have expressed the view for some time now that Brisbane is the weakest team in the league.

Big game today , if CCM win they jump from last up to 6 .
Confident Roar can flog them next week at home , hopefully 10-15k rock up at Suncorp , hopefully U2 haven’t done too much damage to the surface .

That was a poorer performance than the other games this season in my eyes - but the first poor game and all teams do that from time to time. As Robbie says, he will be expecting them to bounce back next game or I will be expecting him to make some changes (and I think he will when required).

I did not like all the professional fouling by the NIx to stop so many attacks early. It was obviously effective but it should have resulted in a lot more yellow cards for professional fouls and it stifled a lot of our build up for little punishment.

I did not like Pepper or Mauk doing stupid aggressive fouls later in the game. Robbie needs to jump on that and cut it out now. One of them needs to start on the bench to make room for Inman starting as AM - I would imagine Inman and Mauk on and Pepper off again.

I still hate the kiwi commentators one-sided continuous commentary. "Roar have not had one single shot on goal" despite them singing his praises for 10 minutes after Taylor made the goal line clearance with the keeper out of the picture. Really gets under my skin over the course of a game.

For me Inman has to start in AM to add more creativity and danger. He showed plenty in pre-season and he forces opposition to make choices on the fly. At the least he draws attention away from our forwards.

Not much more needs changing to stay on the up. McGing did a lot in pre-season too but as many have said he seems to now be a much poorer player. The change in structure and system since season start has made him ineffective and I think he has not shown that he can adapt to the difference as well as you would expect a professional player to. Maybe he is great for the role that Robbie selected him for but since Robbie has had to change the game plan he is an encumberance for now. Possible for him to improve? Yes.

One good game does not make a season but at the same time one bad game does not a winter make. Roar to keep improving because Robbie sees the areas that need work much the same as we do and does not simply make excuses for what he put on the field.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Roar in me Blood - 24 Nov 2019 11:45 AM

I just mute the stream whenever I watch any WP home game. The commentary team are a disgrace.

Agree it was their worse game, it was however very similar to the first 45 minutes vs City and there’s two notable trends that seem to be developing:

1/ Roars performances are getting worse as the season goes on. This has more to do with other teams getting their act together after 6-7 games and exposing Roar more

2/ Confidence was fragile before the win vs City but should have been much higher yesterday but it was almost non existent. This is a worry, after a 4-3 come back-win a side should be over confident if anything, not under done. This suggests they’re not happy with something - take your pick from Fowler, assistants, team mates, formation, tactics, and pay & conditions (did I miss any?)
