Dear Fans,

Sorry, but 90 mins is too long for us to play for.

Can you ask Mr Lowy to shorten the games because we get tired.

We like winning but it's really all a bit too hard.

Thanks for coming though, it's nice to get paid.

Same time next week? We'll have a meeting during the week and decide which 45 mins we want to play. We'll ask Viddie to do a media conference to let you know so you can turn up for that bit.

Hopefully he'll make some more of those funny jokes.

Bye now,

The Reds

Exactly so why dont we make a change when everyone can see that some players are losing it

pantelis for me should have been subbed for barbs around the 60th minute and gold coast would not have scored

vidmar always waits to long to make changes then its to late

im not one to fault the coach this for me is the first time it has really cost us

leckie is god

why did hughes start infront of barbs

Pantelis and Hughes should not be starting. They suck.

I would have had Barbiero and Jamieson on instead - Barbiero as an attacking mid, and Jamieson as left mid. But what do I know? I'm not the manager...

My synopsis on how each player performed:

Hugene: Did well, I don't think he had much of a chance against the header, and he couldn't have come out to get it, so I can't get angry at him.

Fyfe: Played alright, didn't notice anything brilliant, but didn't notice anything shocking, which is fine for a defender.

Rudan: His head seemed to have a magnet on it in defence. I thought he played quite well. Although I noticed him more in the first half than the 2nd.

Flakes: Average game. He is getting better, but he still makes some decisions that don't match his technical ability (i.e. trying to hit that high ball on the bounce, first touch, and completely air swinging to let Smeltz run past him)

Alemao: He was playing with a lot of energy in the first half, and with a little less in the 2nd half but he was creative. I thought he deserved to start, and I hope he starts next week.

Sarkies: Getting a lot better than what he used to be. He is at least hitting his free kicks on target now, and he is actually stringing passes together through the midfield.

Cassio: He played alright, but I would have preferred Jamieson on in his spot. Cassio went missing for me in the 2nd half, and when he got the ball after they conceded he seemed tentative.

Hughes: Didn't play horribly, but he still goes missing quite often, and he has no idea how to pull the trigger when facing goals. The defence opened up a few times for him in the 2nd half, but he just made a backwards pass rather than taking a touch and cracking the ball at the goals... unlike Leckie.

Pants: Played well in the first half, but he has the fitness of a Furby. Either get him training heavily on fitness or just sub him at half time. He was wasting space in the 2nd half.

Leckie: Not much to say. One of our best players is a nobody (no offence) from the Vic state leagues. Why go to League 2 in England for signings when there are better, younger players in the state leagues? One of the only players who didn't drop their head after conceding.

Dodd: Had his usual 'ghost for 40, fantastic for 5' games. He looked to be struggling after 60 minutes, but then again he always does and manages to fight through. I think he is starting to drop off in ability. He isn't the Dodd from last year, in my opinion.

Barbs: He needs to be a starter. I don't know if Viddy hates him or whether Barbs is shite at training, but he needs to be on from the start. He and Leckie play with so much passion, flair and creativity. We need someone as energetic as barbs on the pitch, as it inspires the rest of the team to not give up when they're only a goal down.

Cristiano: Didn't have much time to make an impact. I think he only touched the ball twice. I think he could have got himself involved a little more than he did.

The depressing thing about Bill's individual player evaluation, and Stephen's open letter from the players to the fans, is that I didn't see the game last night and I probably could have written identical posts just based on what has gone before. I was reading the text commentary at the quiz night I was at (looked like I was cheating ) and it sounded like a much better performance. Apparently not though?

Travis has been doing this for a couple of seasons now - he is wildly inconsistent not only from week to week but also within games. He tries hard but I'd say over the course of 2-3 seasons he's had more bad games than good ones (although his good ones are very good).

Now that he's stopped scoring goals so people are starting to look past the moments of brilliance and realise he is really struggling.

Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar banned for 'beheading' quip
Val Migliaccio
November 21, 2009 .Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has been handed a club-imposed two game touchline ban and a hefty $10,000 fine after his flippant "beheading" remarks.

As a result Vidmar will watch Adelaide's next two matches from the stands but he is still allowed to perform his usual coaching duties until an hour before kick-off and 60 minutes after the A-League clashes.

The sanctions were announced by Adelaide chief executive Sam Ciccarello at Thebarton this morning during United's recovery session.

Vidmar must pay a $5000 fine immediately.

Ciccarello said a further $5000 fine will be suspended until the end of the 2011 season.

The suspension follows a remark Vidmar made on Thursday, when he jokingly responded to a line of questions implying his coaching style was "soft."

"What would you like me to do? Chop their heads off. I can do that. We can go to Saudi Arabia and we can do that," Vidmar said at a press conference at Hindmarsh.

Earlier this year, he was in hot water after labelling Adelaide a "pissant" town.

"I think that most of our work is certainly done during the course of the week as it was this week and when you look at last night's game we got everything out of it except the final result. There isn't a heck of a lot a coach can change while the game is going on," vidmar added.

this to me is the problem with vidmar. there is alot a coach can change during the game and if he did make some quick changes we might win some games. might even find some super subs like leckie was

Hi, abignumber. Read my comments in the game thread for a more sober assesment on my part. We were absolutely brillinat for the first half and should have had goals if GCU players hadn't hidden behind the word 'professional' while cheating us out of them. Second half we were back to our old selves.

Most of the game I thought there was a force-field of some sort in front of the goal... As much as we tried to get it in there, it always seemed to be cleared by Gold Coast - credit to them.

Fyfe is still such a pussy going forward. And that is why he should not be started as a RB. I prefer my wingbacks with the ability to do overlaps with my wide midfielders - such as what Cassio did brilliantly on the left. I disagree with Bill Murray's assessment up there, and would like to see Cassio start there more often. Jamieson would provide the left mid better than whatever Pantelis had tried to do.

Marrone is back next week, right?

Fair play disagreeing with me. I think they are both great players, but I have a personal preference to have Jamieson on before Cassio if I had to choose, but I'd prefer if both of them were on at the same time.

Best team next week?

Keeper - Hugene
RB - Marrone
CBs - Flakes and Rudan
LB - Cassio
DM - Sarkies if Reid is not yet 100%. Reid otherwise.
AM - Barbiero
RM - Dodd
LM - Jamo
Strikers - Leckie + Lloyd for 1/2 and Monterosso for 1/2

Bench - Pants, Alamao, lloyd or Monte.

Improvements?

If I remember correctly last night it was something like this:

Galekovic
Rudan -- Cornthwaite
Fyfe ------------------- Cassio
Sarkies -- Hughes
Alemao ----------------- Pantelis
Dodd -- Leckie

Bench: Jamieson, Barbiero, Cristiano, Birighitti

Next week, I'd like to see (again, it probably won't happen):

Galekovic
Rudan -- Cornthwaite
Mullen ------------------- Cassio
Sarkies -- Reid
Dodd ----------------- Jamieson
Cristiano -- Leckie

Bench: Owusu, Barbiero, Alemao, Birighitti

I'm a bit wary of starting Mullen, because of his lack of game time recently. As for Alemao on the bench - he just might provide a bit of creativity in the mid come the 70th minute or so. As for starting Cristiano and Leckie, I think Cristiano has something to prove of late so I want him to go all out firing. The left side with Cassio and Jamieson switched over as above is what we've always wanted to see, so I'd give it a go against the Fury and see what happens. I'd also practice the 'crumbing' in the 6 yard box during the week...

Yep, no Pants please! Put Cristiano there. Have a bench of Cristiano, Alemao & Lloyd. Start Monterosso next to Leckie. Leave Sarkies at DM, give Reid another week. Bring him back in for the next home game, in that game drop Flakes and play both Reid & Sarkies in front of a back 3.

just read the Phil Stubbins interview on the clubs website.

Thought this answer was interesting:

Is that the key to winning on Friday, being able to convert?

PS: I think we’ve really gone back to basics on how we’re going to defend against the Gold Coast. We’ve tried to set a really solid platform defensively and the boys seem to have grasped what we want from them, so if we can get that right and nullify the Gold Coast’s passing game and close them down and be aggressive, I think the chances offensively will come. It’s good to get young Mathew Lekcie back, he’s been tremendous over the last couple of days in training. He’s a livewire, he’s someone who is going to be hard to stop, not to say that he’s the only one that can find the back of the net. Hopefully everyone plays with the energy and enthusiasm that Mathew has shown and then I’m confident we’ll get the three points.

Its pretty sad when our coaching staff is hoping that the clubs seasoned professionals have the same enthusiasm and energy as a young unknown kid - no offence Leckie.

Dodd has really aged this year - and drops his head as soon as we get behind. Pantelis has lost his drive. Cristiano is inconsistent.

In our attack our energy is really on being created by the three young guns. Jamo, Barbs and Leckie.

Frankly at the moment (and sorry about swearing) we need to just start our young guys and drop all the fucking old bastards to the bench/NYL. I am really annoyed to be calling people younger than me old, but that is how they are acting. Like they are past their prime, like they have forgotten what passion is. Lets see Leckie, Monterosso, Shin, Jamo, Sarkies and Mullen start. Any of the NYL lads who look promising. Just not these pricks who are to willing to give it up when the going gets a bit tough.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

I'm very much puzzled by it and very, very angry too. I am outraged that Dodd and Leckie are our new strike force. Since when do midfielders become strikers? Sure Leckie is awesome, but I'm scratching my head about Dodd? And has Lloyd really had a chance to prove himself? His footwork is terrible and slow, but why the hell did AU sign him then? We all know his head is probably the best going round in the HAL. Pinpoint accuracy. He wins every 50/50 ball in the middle of the park. Up front is a different story as i'm yet to see a cross reach his head. 1 up front for the majority of the season. Very few full games. Same with Cristiano. He's made a few mistakes. But why? These 2 guys have a proven track record at higher levels. 1 goal every 3 games for both of them. That's massive. In Adelaide, they can't do jack. Are they afraid of the coach? Does he intimidate them? Has he lost the dressing room like many believe? Are our tactics and formations and selections screwed? The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES. Vidmar, your time is up.

What makes Petrillo and Vidmar think that Flores will do a better job? I'm excited as the next about him but our system is broken. You can bring in the best but it won't matter if the system is broken.

And folks, the system is broken.

Dont have a huge problem with Cristiano being on his way out. Been disappointing more often than not. Think Lloyd should be given a few weeks in a 442 before we give him the arse though.
