+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xrumour idsThoughts on the rumour, swap Ado-Car for Lewis. Sounds far fetched. I think the rumours is bvllshit... And if its not bvllshit then its not something we should entertain... Re the Storm wanting $ and player to let the Fox go for 2021, I think they are just throwing out some bait to see if there are any suckers... I find it highly unlikely they will make him stay beyond this year if he really wants out... It's a worry if the club is keeping plodders and the only way to lure a star to the club is by losing a promising youngster who could become a star himself. It's now 16 years since our last premiership and perhaps a sign that building a team around plodders is not the way to go these days.... Only a few plodders left tho. That's the thing. We will soon be told we cant replace some of these guys with anything more due to SC pressure and minimum 30 man roster, but that shouldnt be a reason we offer them 2 or 3 year deals. If we absolutely need to keep them to fill roster spots, get them on 1 year deal and offload them next year. If they dont like, off you go. Will we be told that???... Re one year deals, have you been paying zero attention to many if the contract extensions???... And what sort of culture do you build where the majority of the tram is distracted by contract negotiations every year???... Are you concerned of our current culture of securing a 12th-16th spot every year? This culture nonsense kicks in only when you have a highly successful team. If you are in our predicament, you change the deck chairs as often as needed until you influence a chande for the better. Culture eats strategy for breakfast mate... And you seriously underestimate how long it takes to rebuild or change culture, and how stability at all levels of an organisation plays a massive role (especially after what we’ve been through at the back end of the Dib era... And we never finished 16th so don’t make stuff up... The chairs u wanted to shuffle already had their new decks planned before Nov 1... Dont underestimate bad culture though. Our team of 2004 probably had a bad culture (party goers, lacsadaisicle training, big mouths etc) , but the players were united and had a common cause. It was probably stronger than any goodie goodie culture can produce at that time. It happens often in sport. Having a good culture doesn't mean you have it over any other team. All it means is that you are better off than a team full of discontent players.

+x+x+x+x+xAnd with such a young group, we may (hopefully) find ourselves in a position where we will need upgrade a couple of soon to bulldogs developed star players... The NRlol will be hoping to get it's South's Roosters GF this year and have done all they can to facilitate it... Latrell was only ever going one place... The Turbos were going nowhere... Arrow was only ever going back to skeletor, especially with whatever promise The Gladiator made to give his girl a leg up... JAC could still end up at Dogs in 21... Just cos Melbourne say thy want something don't mean it will happen... Do they really want to hold on to a bloke that doesn't want yo be there for two years???... Hope you're right mate. We should be much better placed and who knows will become available. Kinda a tenuous business plan to rely on tho. But hey what choice we got. It’s a simple as those blokes some are lamenting we didn’t sign were never coming fir reasons that had nothing to do with the club... there really weren’t many Marquee players available, and they already knew what they were doing... We are going about attracting those types of players in the only way we can, by trying to build a winning culture, developing strong juniors, and having stable admin and support team... You mean we can't get anyone we choose...contract or no contract....bummer...don't tell Marki And we can’t get the ones that knew they were going to Souths from the get go... I'm not after anyone specifically. But what I don't want to see is we get to 2021 with money to spend but no one to spend it on, only because we didnt plam or shuffle the deck chairs in 2020. I'm hoping we have a strategy to pounce on the inevitable mid year player movement, but as Dan says, it's a risky and very opportunistic strategy to sell to the fans.

We are obviously not relying solely on disgruntled players as a plan... That would be stupid...

Whether or not you call it culture, there are building blocks for long term success ...... Panicked short-cuts are a lack of culture, planing, integrity, that usually blow up .. the complete opposite of what builds success...... Our problems started with lower standards, not higher standards. Ask any successful coach if he has low standards, or makes panic buys... Respect, integrity and expectations are a 2-way street, without respect and integrity, high expectations count for little as there is no buy in...simply lip service........ If you want to win the comp often, follow the Roosters....

+x2 why they would broadcast what it is... See there's the problem, they did broadcast what it is.... was. Both Hill and Pay are on record saying we were after marquee signings for '21. and either or both of them named names - The Turbos and earlier than them L Mitchell. That they didn't get them I don't lay blame. That they ridiculously took themselves out of the equation for Mitchell way too early and way too publicly to try and make a point that nobody got nor would've cared for anyway was just cutting off their nose to spite their face. Do you think they made any point for future negotiations that's gonna bend anyone's will? They should've stayed in the game and let it play out, might've still ended up the same but we'll never ever know now will we. Be interesting to see if any big names do become available what will be done when they realise they'll be played against other suitors. By the line they've drawn the answer is we drop out immediately. The problem is if you hold yourself so highly to think you'll never be played all it really means is you never play,

Loosing money but hey who wouldnt want to play for Gladiator. Bennett offered to pay his "other" agent 55k to get out of contract immediately. Funnily no one knows if that is in Souths sc lol

Dean Pay on NRL 360 was not asked if he was interested in Mitchell or The Turbo's. The question was about the current at the time SC situation and Pay took it to '21 and named names.

This is where I find the NRLs minimum cap spend as stupid. Here we are, a team that has a multitude of players off contact at end of 2020 and with a war chest for '21. Yet come end of this year, if there are no big name players available, we will be "forced" to spend 95% of our cap on whatever is available. I'm not sure if we can even front load players anymore? Anyone know? If so, our only hope is to front load all our top earners and then purge the team at seasons end and go hard at the market for top line talent. Perhaps that is the strategy all along.....

+xMarki can you crunch the numbers of what the NRLols what ‘significantly under market value’ is please.... You'd have to think it was 75% wouldnt you? Most people swap jobs when a 20% salary increase carrot is put forward, no matter the circumstance. You'd therefore think that giving up more than 25% of your current salary would be a huge trigger and that something stinks?

They got every right to demand a percentage of revenue that THEY help generate is returned to them and the minimum cap is how it's done. Remember ALL of the money comes from NRL grants. So are you saying clubs should be allowed to pocket a percentage of it, maybe spend it on some hookers and booze?

Rookie error perhaps... Or that was the intent/plan and it didn’t eventuate for whatever reasons... But I still don’t think it unusual, mis leading, or revealing in any way that he said that.. Or the unveiling of a formal recruitment plan... I don’t feel like Rec Team has failed in any way with who was available... But that’s just me I guess... Which is easier I guess because in my mind none of them were ever coming here anyway... like fafita and Ramien... But no because of us, because of them... Did we actually approach the Urbos at all???... Did Pay just feeling like ruffling the Eagles and Roosters feathers, or give his players something to think about... As for Api, I prefer the Kotoa purchase, Herman no better than what we have, and those untried hookers a meh at the $$$ no thanks...

+x+xThis is where I find the NRLs minimum cap spend as stupid. It's a wages agreement with the players and a justifiable one. They got every right to demand a percentage of revenue that THEY help generate is returned to them and the minimum cap is how it's done. Remember ALL of the money comes from NRL grants. So are you saying clubs should be allowed to pocket a percentage of it, maybe spend it on some hookers and booze? You can keep your hookers, I’ll take the booze!!!...

What I'm saying is that the whole NRL knows we are paying overs for let's say a very average roster... We are 2 years into a 3 year term of disaster rectification of our SC. Yet come end of 2020 and with no premium players left in the market, instead of assisting our club by allowing us to pay our average players a SC total that night be say 80% of the NRL min total, we will find ourselves overpaying our top 30 just to meet their criteria and send us back to square 1. If this was business, you'd purge your staff and fix it a year later. Instead its another roadblock. Unless we can front load our team to meet the min spend requirements, we are in no better shape the year after.

It's not meant to assist the clubs managing their SC or roster, nor have The NRL any obligation to - that's the clubs job.
It's meant to return the agreed % to the players. That's where it begins and ends.

+x+x+x I’m not sure what else they are supposed to say when being asked if they’ll chase the likes of Latrell or the Urbos, of course they’ll say they are interested in “high quality players”... who wouldn’t... but that’s not really announcing their plan for recruitment is it...

As for Api, I prefer the Kotoa purchase, Herman no better than what we have, and those untried hookers a meh at the $$$ no thanks... We can find the Dogs squad for 2020 on the website... I am sure we had discussions with lots of players and the same players talked to lots of clubs... then made their decision .. either we could not agree on money or some other aspect,or the player preferred to go elsewhere... Those ships have sailed, and they are not coming back to harbour, ..... Personally I hope we offered the Turbos plenty, but we obviously didn't offer them enough, or perhaps it wasn't all about money... When it is not about money, the best bet is to be a club where the players are happy and the team is competitive, we showed signs of that at the back end of last year... show the same at the start of 2020, and players will find the club an attractive option for 2021. I have no doubt there will be personalities at other clubs who players prefer not to play with, or for, and that list will grow in 2020. I'm still not sold our our options in the spine and a prop.... and I still think that is where games are won and lost..so centres and wingers are not a high priority IMO.

Unless we can front load our team to meet the min spend requirements, we are in no better shape the year after. The club has acted to get the SC in shape with a view to recruitment from 2021 onward based on a core team of young players ... the SC was a mess and there was no quick fix..... Many of the overs payments we are making a front-loading from a previous era, or poor recruitment, development and retention from a previous era... his is the strategy we are running with, get you house in order than build from there, there is no other option... paying well over the odds for 1-2 star players will work no better for us than it has for the Titans over the last 5 years... especially when those players are coming for money, and only money...
