Vidmars Socceroo chanceQuote:ADELAIDE United mentor Aurelio Vidmar is in the box seat to replace Socceroos assistant coach Graham Arnold.
Sources have revealed Vidmar is being tipped to move on from United after its AFC Champions League group campaign to take a role with the Socceroos' coaching staff.
A Football Federation Australia spokesman would not rule out Vidmar's progress to Sydney's headquarters but said the Socceroos were focusing on the FIFA World Cup.
"Viddie's a good, young coach and he's currently working closely with (FFA technical director) Han Berger to get his A-coaching licence," said the FFA spokesman.
"But as far as the Socceroos go, Pim Verbeek and Graham Arnold have all of our support for the World Cup.
"I haven't heard of what will happen next."
Vidmar and Socceroo and Adelaide City legend Alex Tobin have been earmarked for roles within the national team's system after Arnold takes up full-time coaching with Central Coast Mariners.
Tobin is currently the Mariners' assistant coach.
Arnold will head back to club football after a decade with the national team once the Socceroos complete their FIFA World Cup duties in South Africa.
Vidmar is held in high esteem by Verbeek, who is set to take up a European club job offer after the World Cup.
The Vidmar-Socceroos link strengthened after last year's A-League Coach of the Year was invited to South Africa with the Socceroos in June.
He will work closely with Verbeek during the Socceroos' group stage matches against Germany, Ghana and Serbia.
Vidmar yesterday would not write off the Socceroos coaching connection.
"If they're (Verbeek and Arnold) leaving (after the World Cup) they've obviously got to go through a process of hiring the next coach," Vidmar said. "If the next coach comes in, they bring their people.
"At this point I'm coaching Adelaide United and I'm very happy."
It's understood FFA is keen to train a former Socceroos player with senior A-League coaching experience for the national team's vacant position.
Of the 10 current domestic coaches, only Vidmar, Perth Glory's David Mitchell and Brisbane Roar's Ange Postecoglou qualify.
Meanwhile, the Young consortium met FFA's submission papers deadline last Friday by signing and handing over all the relevant paperwork.
The group of powerful SA business people is now waiting for official handover from the club's interim custodian, FFA.
The takeover will happen after United's Champions League group stage campaign - if the governing body agrees to the proposal and the adjusted terms and condition put forward by the group. Owners baby! Yeah!

I cant say I agree with you on it looking better than the jims plumbing. Although having said that I can see the logic of having study Adelaide rather than jims plumbing. cant see a Korean or Japanese family giving them a call and utilizing their services.

Who runs www.adelaidereds.com anyway? I've lurked there for about 3 years, and each time I try to register it says that I need to wait for the admin's approval... I have a feeling that I'm not the only person to run into this wall. I also think it may be the reason why those forums have less traffic than Rundle Mall. (The admin's approval never comes through. It would explain why the adelaide forum is so quiet compared to the melbourne one) Edited by Bill Murray: 23/2/2010 08:24:22 PM

But honestly, I prefer the atmosphere here in the 442 forums. As for tomorrow night's game, am I the only one super psyched up about it? I convinced some other friends to come along, so it should be good.

The Advertiser's "Possible Line-Up"
...................who else................. Boogard......Cornflake....Fyfe........Jamo ...........Barbs..........Marrone............. Dodd...............Flores............Leckie ..................Van Dijk................
I COMPLETELY agree with the front third of dodd, flores, leckie.serj and i think it was my prediction a while ago as it seems obvious.
Does anyone know anything much about Boogard? Is he a fullback by trade? I had him picked as a CB...
Also I find it hard to believe that AG will not get a start seeing as though, besides Flores, he has been with us the longest. Possibly CB instead of Cornflakes??? With that one simple change, and possibly Mullen doesnt deserve to miss out, it would look a damn strong team....but eiher way its not a bad lookin line-up...

Think that Griffiths will come off the bench to replace Barbs. Expecting the players to be quite aggressive if Joe Mullen has anything to do with it :) Wish I was going to be there

A very plain jersey this year but a wise move from StudyAdelaide.com group as this jersey will be travelling around Asia to their potential customer bases.
I'm predicting a crowd of 14,000 tonight. I think there'll be quite a few match day tickets sold at the gate. Get there early is my suggestion!
C'mon You Reds.

I would be going if i had the money too.
$30 for a ticket, plus transport, beer and food. Be way to expensive for me. Going to the local pub instead, have a few beer and watch the match with mates.

C"MON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!!! Front third looks good. DM looks good. Back line, will get better as we get going. I always thought Boogaard was a CB as well, but we'll see. Seriously, I don't know how many times I have said it, but I can't wait! :D 6.5hrs 'til kick-off! :p

Just curious, in the next round match would you be supporting Victory (cause they are A-league) or Seongnam (cause of Sasa + we hate MV)?

DaWoo wrote:Just curious, in the next round match would you be supporting Victory (cause they are A-league) or Seongnam (cause of Sasa + we hate MV)? I support any Australian team that plays any overseas team ( except GC 'cause their owner is an arsehole who secretly hates football! ) Actually the only thing I have against GC is their owner. he despises the A-League and relies more on legal shit than actually giving the players and spectators his support. I respect their players and the fans who don't think abusing other teams is their reason for being. Edited by redcup: 24/2/2010 05:01:04 PM

Oh yeah, why is LifeFM not broadcasting the match? If FreshFM could broadcast every ACL game both home and away you would think LifeFM could too! Edited because I couldn't believe it was true but after talking to AUFC they have said that LifeFM have chosen not to broadcast and they don't know why. Will call LifeFM tomorrow and ask them. I want Sasa to do well, but Melbourne are representing Australia... Tough call, but I think deep down I'd go for Melbourne, but my heart will be going for big Og-monster! 30 minutes until I finish work. Just like Davide82, Phase One of game day is nearly complete! :p GO YOU REDS!

jessesdad wrote:OK guys, I just went and bought my tickets for the ACL and they told me that General Admission (that's not just you, General) was booked out and I had to buy reserved seating.
Now there could be two reasons for this. 1) Theire system is stuffed, in which case I will have to fight them for a refund when I turn up at the game and the GA seat are half empty. 2) The GA seats are actually sold out!
Now I would prefer the latter and it would explain a lack of advertising. But I think it might be the former.
Either way I'll be there - in gold seats - come Wednesday night. \:d/ Still on crutches. :( Let us know how you get on with that? I have always foung that these ticketing places have no idea. How they can mark seats as sold that have no-one sitting in them come match day is bewildering. They obviously live in some parallel universe! On the game - I'm glad that Mullen played as he's too good to be replaced by Boogard. NOT impressed with Griffiths, he looks like a liability rather than filling some void that someone believed AU had. Still can't figure out why Pantellis is on the pitch - he tries hard but he's really just not good enough, but every now and then he manages to make the net shake I suppose. If Dodd can get his radar right I think he & Flores will strike up a great partnership. Leckie is strong, fast, exciting and very good - what more can a supporter ask? Methinks he may make the National team as a starter. Pohang looked sharp and United should have won by more - that's how good I feel after tonight. Edited by redcup: 25/2/2010 12:07:45 AM
