Speaking of the youth team, did anyone go and watch the game elsewhere last night? I had a work function so couldn't make it. Anywho, I'll be at the ground early-ish tonight as well. I'll be the guy reading an ebook on his iPod touch in the grandstand. :p

We definitely can't lose that one, maybe you can draw us next time we play in Melbourne ;) Pretty sure it's Victory and SFC we play at AO, so yes, we definitely can't lose those ones :p Anyway, I'm all set for the 150km trip to Hindmarsh  Let's hope we don't get any rain tonight.

Well, the sun has come out from behind the clouds where I'm at in the inner southern suburbs now. So hopefully it holds out.

There are 2 AO games this season, I think the other is Sydney? Flores was pretty tightly marked last night, but 5 secs of sheer brilliance made my night, pity he's only here for 2 years but I hope he rips in Europe. His understanding with Leckie is amazingI'd like to see Ramsay and him on the field together more often. Ben Williams presence is best forgotten AGAIN!! Underwhelming is his middle name, I'm sure.

To be honest, I can't wait to see Dodd, Leckie and Flores on together. Some of the most memorable diagonal runs happened in the ACL between those three.
Pantelis has gotten better again, and credit to him that he's done so well. Hughes has notched up another great performance, winning a ton of possession in the mid, and then allowing Reid to delegate the passing.
If all goes well, Barbiero will be back in the squad within two weeks. I think he's actually back at full training with the boys already, but will wait in the wings until he's completely fit - much like Cornthwaite had to.

Barbs has been involved in the full contact practice, he may feature next week or the week after. I was stunned by Hughes' brilliant physical run into the box, was a great piece of work and helped to rattle NJ. Ben Williams was just unbelievable, why he did not call that massive string of fouls I will never know - Leckie was lucky not to get booked for back chat.

New Reds era dawns Val Migliaccio wrote:Adelaide United may be on the verge of a new era after 17 months without an owner. A-League chief Lyall Gorman said Football Federation Australia - the interim custodian of the Reds - was in high-level negotiations with domestic and foreign consortiums. It is understood the A-League is just weeks away from signing the club over to the Adelaide-based new franchise owners. The FFA will complete the formalities of the handover to the new investors next year. "We have looked at a few options, including foreign investors, and the best option will obviously rise to the rop," Gorman said. "We have been talking to a few potential investors."
The Adelaide Business Consortium has also again thrown its hat into the franchise ring for a potential Adelaide takeover. But the consortium, comprising four Adelaide-based shareholders has not formally approached the A-League again after the initial deal reached an impasse last May. "We have had no (fresh) correspondance from the Alan Young (ABC) consortium," Gorman said.
Gorman has also denied the competition was at a crossroads despite Adelaide, North Queensland and Newcastle Jets needing rescue packages over the past 18 months. Gorman, however, revealed that FFA officials were always aiming for perfection in the embattled domestic market. He dropped the subtle hint that FFA was in the process of tweaking the current A-League model in an effort to keeping clubs viable.
"We've looked at all sports, the longevity of them and their commercial entities," Gorman said. "You have to take the view that we're only five years old. We're always looking at other models globally and we are learning a lot from their structures."
Gorman said the US Major Soccer League was not the ideal model for the domestic market. The MLS is a monopoly where the body owns the clubs and the players in an effort to stave off bankruptcy, which ended the North American Soccer League. US clubs are handed strict budgets, while the MLS ensures the product is financially and structurally sound by pooling all its resources. The 14-year-old MLS is now stable enough that some clubs are free of the monopoly because they're financially independent.
"We have 1.4 million people involved in our code," Gorman said. "The opportunities embrace us and we have many supporters of the game at grass-roots level so that's (the A-League) a work in progress." Other than the poor editing (a feature of the printed version of the Advertiser) there is some interesting information in the article I transcribed from the paper. Cannot believe some of the schoolboy errors they have in this piece..

I'm not going to get my hopes up until more concrete details are revealed... as we know what happened last time we had a consortium nearly purchase the club.
As for the new kit deals, I wouldn't mind seeing Adidas branding on our shirts... :D
