09/10 season for me was Reid, 10/11 for me was Hughes. 11/12? Hard to pick, but I think that the team captain sort of selects themselves. Who steps up on game day, keeps talking and pushing the rest of the boys - that is who i want as captain. I am happy for Rini to take his time and not announce it until just before the season kicks off.

As far as I'm concerned it is Cassio - great player, great team man, great AU man. However, he may be too nice and cheeky and he may prefer being anonymous. Being Captain can be a double edged sword, if his performances suffer I'd prefer him to remain anonymous. If, however, he's like Viduka and plays even better - bring it on! He'd be unstoppable!
Got to become an Aussie first though.

Cassio is most deserving to be captain, but I think he's a bit too humble to actually fit the role. But agreeing with the rest of you that there's really no one else who could take up the armband bar Galekovic.

If Flores signs the new contract, I wouldn't mind seeing him as captain. He's the natural centre of attention and a great ambassador for football and Adelaide United both on and off the pitch. His English is not perfect, but I don't think that would prove too much of a problem.

Can anyone spot Bradley Norton in any of my pics? I can't remember what the kid looked like. :p Not sure if he's coming back to join our senior squad next season.

PS does anyone know what has happened to Reid?[/quote]
I was speaking to him recently and apparently he has been unhappy since the new owners came in and that he still wanted a new contract but Rini said wait till the end of the season and he didnt want to wait so he said im not training, heart is not with the club and more blah blah blah. I think he went to Sydney coz of Jambo.
BTW those owners have ruined this club WE DO NOT NEED A CULTURE CHANGE, they have given Rini power to do whatever he wants coz they dont know nothing about the game. And Rini has got Power Hungry

I think he went to Sydney coz of Jambo. That's all part and parcel of being a player contracted to a football club - you negotiate your contract deals when they expire. It's still poor form by Reid to publicly have a dummyspit like he did on the eve of a Finals match. milan_7 wrote:BTW those owners have ruined this club WE DO NOT NEED A CULTURE CHANGE, they have given Rini power to do whatever he wants coz they dont know nothing about the game. And Rini has got Power Hungry I don't see how giving more footballing power to the football department is a bad thing. The owners deal with the business model of the club as well as the financial backing. The head coach and the footballing staff deal with the football. That's the same worldwide. And I call bullshit to Rini being "Power Hungry" - it's his team of players that he's trying to win trophies with so he can do what he sees fit to improve the squad. If that means cutting Dodd, Reid, or whoever else, so be it. As long as we're filling the void with players who will play for the shirt and for their spot in the starting team.

Soz for the mass outburst just my opinion. And By the way Paul Izzo and Jacob Melling have been handed pro contracts. And Eugene may be leaving for Europe so Birras can become 1st team keeper and Izzo Reserve

Izzo and Melling aren't joining the senior squad until January 2012. They have AIS commitments until then.

cus our bulging trophy cabinent is testament to our great culture. Rini is the best thing to happen to AUFC followed closely by the acquasition of the club by the current owners.

The club would get good cash for him as he's still contracted AND I'd like to see Birra between the sticks for a season before his contract expires. ( my money's on him being offered a contract in Europe during the U20's world cup. )

If Birra hasn't got a career path with AUFC then we are going to be wasting his time.

Just hurry up and release the draw already. If we are playing Perth away on Saturday night I want to be there. It will be nearly seven months since I will see the reds play in a competitive fixture.
Hurry up already.

David Williams is still a free agent for next season, Rini is after 1 more attacking player with an Australian passport - he sort of ticks the boxes don't he?

After we beat Fury 8-1 last season i noticed Rini having a chat with him... fair sure he is interested. If he dosent go to Europe we will snatch him up

Not really a big fan of Williams to be honest, he's got pace but technically I don't think he's really up to scratch. Way too often does he blaze the ball over the crossbar for my liking, and his crossing isn't the greatest.

I'm worried about Victory's recruitment for next season as their attack looks good, so I'm hoping the rumours about signing Swinkells has some basis. Williams may help our options up front, but it's the defence I'd like to see bolstered. Here's hoping we sign some big strong defenders.

Now that Pantelis is gone, we've freed up more of the cap space for Rini's central defender and attacking midfielder. The rest of the signings can be youth players like Wooding and Walsh, if need be.
