+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xArticle just goes to show how much more the clubs value keeping Lowy's supposedly "shit" tv deal, over independence... I don’t understand. Give more detail please Why don't you post a lizard picture? You bullied libel for a year or more and now he lives in a special place in your brain. Good on him. I probably don't share much of his views, or even how he puts them at times, but it is interesting that you never attempt to constructively engage and counter his point of view intelligently. You just play dumb. I think it's play? He does come across as somebody who really cares. That is worth a lot in troubled times. It was more of a jibe because what does he expect? That the clubs will walk away from the deal? Time will sort this out. Fox will drop the deal not vice versa. I must live in a special place in yours dont be fooled that this is a club v fox thing that he paints. My view is simple. It had lost its way from a place for information and forays into banter to a forum of lies, slander and bullying. Probably some truth in that. Could also say that we mirror the wider football community, the diminishing of interest in Australian football is right across the board. What Australian football forums have survived? Remember about 12 years ago how we had many vibrant ones, there's next to nothing now. The gradual loss of hope has been painful to watch. When the history of the A League is written, the Lowys and Gallop will be called to account. A litany of vanity, nepotism and incompetence. Or having initiated the most successful league and standard of professionalism in the country's history. Got Australia into Asia. Successive world cup appearances. Developed a woman's professional league, youth league. Record income into a sport that was on its knees. Led the sport into mainstream acceptance at least multiple times more than it was before. One can go on. But it appears you have forgotten these. Yes, the old FFA eventually lost their way, but what has the current crop of FFA done in their 20 months? It lacks strong leadership. Unable to unite in times of need. Has no pulling power with large sponsors, corporations or government. This is where incompetence is better demonstrated. I agree with most of that, but it is also true that Lowy snr was guilty of nepotism, and on that score, he trashed his reputation and legacy. As for the new board and Chair, yep, you can already see it will add up to a big fat zero, with or without the pandemic, but that's definitely the nail in the coffin. The new Chair has one tenth of the clout Lowy snr had, and with each passing day, that is becoming more and more obvious. For the time being, not sure for how long, but it will definitely be a case of: hello old soccer! where have you been the last 15 years? Amazing how some claim nepotism. The fact that the Consultants searched, identified many and selected Lowy junior as the best candidate is incredibly overlooked as was the unanimous approval of the Board. Theory due to hatred vs facts runs supreme it seems. "Definitely the case of hello old soccer" has even less merit.

It's jumping to conclusion and no evidence. You mean one can not have a member of his family employed by the same organization because that's perceived as nepotism? Or is it really hatred of the Lowy's behind all his? Please, give us a break.

Expansion was too slow. People got bored with their product. mixed in with tough fan regulations and politics has lead to people also being turned off the product.

I'm one happy to proclaim Lowy snr's role in getting the elite national league off the ground and other big developments, like getting into Asia, I doubt anyone else would have managed it. But when it comes to the end of his chairmanship, he handed the Chair to his son. That's nepotism, and it was 100% wrong. Casts a huge shadow on his reputation and legacy. As for the new mob 19 months on, it amounts to a big fat zero, and I don't really have any expectations that they can deliver too much.

I can see that self isolation at home isn't working out that well for you.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xArticle just goes to show how much more the clubs value keeping Lowy's supposedly "shit" tv deal, over independence... OK, now I'm sure you're just taking the piss, too. There's no way someone could type that with a straight face. Maybe Popa's two kids at Perth Glory were the only options available as well. :D

@ paulc
The problem is that people on here seem to think that nepotism is automatically a bad thing. I'm not sure why that is the case when it is neither unlawful nor unethical per se. It is only when the advancement of a relative over others within the organisation on the basis of the relationship rather than on ability that it becomes negative to the organisation and a reflection on the bestower of the favour.

Fair points. It's the suspicion even if not justified, I acknowledge. But there's no evidence and one must give benefit of the doubt to the professional recruiting consultants and the Board for making that decision. I worked with organizations that had relatives succeed ahead of others. The mature attitude of others in the same organization was so be it, he has the likely credentials equal to any other as far as they were aware. They didn't whinge or sook because they thought they were better or because it was a relative of the CEO, but just got on with their job, professionally. The mob mentality here with some people is akin to that exhibited against George Pell, Morrison, Trump et al, or heaven's forbid if you question climate change and see what you cop from the loonie lefties. Same pack mentality right here.

Same mentality right here. I can deal with a board stacked with his mates as Frank had with the original board. They were all highly accomplished businessmen. I had worked with one of them closely and another a bit, and they were really sharp and well grounded. My problem with S Lowy was he hadn't done anything before working for Dad at Westfield (I don't count 2 years at First Boston). He is clearly a bright guy, but it was all too easy to go work for Dad in an established business where you just do more of the same, and it showed when he couldn't manage a different business (FFA & Hal). That is our loss. This was a genuinely tough time for our game and having someone battle hardened like say a David Murray or in the current crop Alan Joyce (who got Jetstar on track and brought Qantas back from the brink, although I'm not a fan of him using it for his personal political agenda). People like that would have been better than the bunch of consultants and mates S Lowy brought in. Smart doesn't make you a good manager otherwise we would just put actuaries and rocket scientists in charge of everything. Acumen is hard to gain and judgement is tough to apply. My problem with nepotism is that often kids who may have lots of talent are thrust into positions they haven't been trained for and then its at best sink or swim. Its not always a problem, but for every Kerry Packer, there are lots of Warwick Fairfax's. I am facts based rather than politically leaning. Most people don't do their own research. Its amazing what you can debunk if you take the time.

well, I'll respond paulc not that I'm any more qualified or know the facts but from observations. Your stand for lowys in the big picture irritates most. No matter your justification about Jnr getting the position the fact of the matter is he wouldn't have been much or any different to his father. Sure he passed all the creds, you'd expect so type of schooling he had/degrees I expect but the game was down spiralling long before he got the gig.....and what did he do but hold stations and be stubborn holding onto the steering wheel incl playing games with FIFA. Stakeholders/us have been jumping up and down, grass roots, AL supporters alienated etcetc Re signing gallop isn't a job for the boys ? where was he taking us ? The saving grace to rest on for arguments sake has been the Fox deal, covid has fixed that up incl all sport. IF the top doesn't listen they lose us, forget bundling with the other mob mentality attitudes that I agree with you (barring pell) the Lowy model is fucked, it not about the new mob imo, its like a company releasing their first product but wheres the upgrades and in the game itself right down to association levels ? blank. I'm glad covid turned up. We'll be broke, a total reset, some clubs up in smoke, some new ones. Hopefully smarter and better comes out of the wipeout, re joining old with new disjointed model needs togetherness for history will repeat itself once again. Think of the children j/k/ importantly the pathways.

Thrusted? You mean he didn't want to do it but had to because daddy told him so? Hmmmm! Really got to the bottom of my comments and rebutted them there, not. I expected more. My bad

+x+xwell, I'll respond paulc not that I'm any more qualified or know the facts but from observations. I don't have an issue with the restructure, new ideas and fresh people if deservedly so. But after 20 months where are they? According to you, because it "irritates most" I should go with the flow and support the mob LOL. No thanks. You are literally libel.
