+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xArticle just goes to show how much more the clubs value keeping Lowy's supposedly "shit" tv deal, over independence... I don’t understand. Give more detail please Why don't you post a lizard picture? You bullied libel for a year or more and now he lives in a special place in your brain. Good on him. I probably don't share much of his views, or even how he puts them at times, but it is interesting that you never attempt to constructively engage and counter his point of view intelligently. You just play dumb. I think it's play? He does come across as somebody who really cares. That is worth a lot in troubled times. It was more of a jibe because what does he expect? That the clubs will walk away from the deal? Time will sort this out. Fox will drop the deal not vice versa. I must live in a special place in yours dont be fooled that this is a club v fox thing that he paints. My view is simple. It had lost its way from a place for information and forays into banter to a forum of lies, slander and bullying. Probably some truth in that. Could also say that we mirror the wider football community, the diminishing of interest in Australian football is right across the board. What Australian football forums have survived? Remember about 12 years ago how we had many vibrant ones, there's next to nothing now. The gradual loss of hope has been painful to watch. When the history of the A League is written, the Lowys and Gallop will be called to account. A litany of vanity, nepotism and incompetence. Or having initiated the most successful league and standard of professionalism in the country's history. Got Australia into Asia. Successive world cup appearances. Developed a woman's professional league, youth league. Record income into a sport that was on its knees. Led the sport into mainstream acceptance at least multiple times more than it was before. One can go on. But it appears you have forgotten these. Yes, the old FFA eventually lost their way, but what has the current crop of FFA done in their 20 months? It lacks strong leadership. Unable to unite in times of need. Has no pulling power with large sponsors, corporations or government. This is where incompetence is better demonstrated. I agree with most of that, but it is also true that Lowy snr was guilty of nepotism, and on that score, he trashed his reputation and legacy. As for the new board and Chair, yep, you can already see it will add up to a big fat zero, with or without the pandemic, but that's definitely the nail in the coffin. The new Chair has one tenth of the clout Lowy snr had, and with each passing day, that is becoming more and more obvious. For the time being, not sure for how long, but it will definitely be a case of: hello old soccer! where have you been the last 15 years? Amazing how some claim nepotism. The fact that the Consultants searched, identified many and selected Lowy junior as the best candidate is incredibly overlooked as was the unanimous approval of the Board. Theory due to hatred vs facts runs supreme it seems. OK, now I'm sure you're just taking the piss, too. There's no way someone could type that with a straight face. Still waiting for he evidence from someone, anyone, that he was not the best option. Relying on the fact that he is just related to Frank Lowy is piss poor. I can see that self isolation at home isn't working out that well for you. Still no evidence and this is the best you can do. Evidence isn't important when they "feel" they are right. All you have to do is look up the meaning of the term and apply it to the context. I thought you struggled with the meaning of evidence lol. You are completely incoherent. Stuck at home with time on your hands and a bolt loosened brain.

+xare fox subscriptions going down when everyone is locked at home?? Of course they are. Even boomers aren't stupid enough to keep paying Murdoch for MASH reruns, because that's all they have to offer now. Without live sport Foxtel's 20th century business model is completely fucked.

But I think they may be in strife after the virus is over. It depends which part of the economy you’re in - if your job is not impacted you probably haven’t thought about the FoxTel subscription but if you’re one of the millions that have lost their job, or are on reduced pay, or fear for the future of your job then the $60-$80/month FoxTel subscription is probable an early cost saving. Especially when you can get STAN, Netflix, and Amazon Prime for $10-$15/month each. We are now in a severe recession - typically FoxTel would do poorly in such an economic environment.

I think people at home will be reluctant to dispose of one of the very few aspects of entertainment remaining. At the moment anyway.

The headlines are masking the stark reality that for millions of people they are going to struggle to pay rent/mortgage and the normal bills. And with the government signalling there’s no short term end to this many people will be very fearful

As the result of the shutdowns, i'm one of the people that has been put on reduced pay. I'm still employed but rather than stand staff down, my boss offered temporary salary reductions to all staff. As soon as that happened, I immediately went through all of my subscriptions and direct debits and cancelled anything non-essential (basically anything entertainment related). All of my work colleagues have done the same. Three of them had Foxtel, and all three have cancelled their subscriptions. One of them has even decided not to renew her lease and has moved back into her parents house with her boyfriend. A good 40% of my employers client base is from the events and sports industries (among others) including a small amount of work for the NRL and Super Rugby. To put that in perspective, the amount of revenue we collect from the two rugby seasons alone covers one staff member's salary for an entire year. So far, no-one has lost their job where I work, but that runway is only so long. We know that the business will bounce back once restrictions are lifted, but we don't know when that will be, so we need to prepare for the long haul.

Bottle shop sales are up 28%, but pubs are down 100%, so that's actually pretty mild.

Cancelled my Viasat Sport because no football. Sure they have movies in the package but I would rather rent a movie that I want to watch then having to watch movies because I pay for that. Already do that with Netflix and Viaplay.
Saving money cooking lunch while working from home. As I eat at a restaurant every day at work.
No AL means I have to get out of bed on the weekends.

“The prominent barrister who helped Cardinal George Pell win his appeal at the High Court is advising Football Federation Australia of its contractual rights in the game's standoff with Fox Sports, who could terminate the broadcast deal if the A-League does not resume by June 30.” Sources with knowledge of the deal suggest Fox Sports will have to pay the final quarterly sum for this season, due on April 15, but could issue FFA with a breach notice if the A-League remains postponed by the end of this financial year. Under the terms of the contract, the FFA is free to postpone the A-League season without punishment so long as they complete the entire season within a contract year, which runs from July 1 until June 30.FFA is due to decide on April 22 as to whether the season can resume but there appears to be very little prospect of play being resumed in the short term. Senior A-League sources are touting a possible return date in July, but even that isn't certain.Amid fears that delay could allow Fox Sports to tear up its contract with the A-League – which has three years left to run and is worth $57m a year – sources close to FFA confirmed leading silk Bret Walker SC has been engaged ahead of a potential legal fight with the broadcaster. FFA chief James Johnson is looking at alternatives in case Fox Sports withdraws from the A-League.AAPSydney-based Walker is one Australia's foremost legal minds and has taken on a wide range of high-profile cases throughout his career, having represented rugby league players, tobacco companies, politicians and alleged organised crime figures. He also headed the royal commission into the Murray-Darling Basin, the review into national security and counter-terrorism legislation, and Swimming Australia's probe of drug use within the country's swimming team at the London Olympics in 2012.A High Court appeals specialist, Walker successfully argued Cardinal Pell's convictions for sexually abusing two choirboys at Melbourne's St Patrick's Cathedral in 1996 should be quashed. The involvement of a barrister of Walker's calibre in football's affairs is a sign of how seriously FFA and the A-League is treating the prospect of a court battle with Foxtel, the owners of Fox Sports, to enforce the remainder of the TV contract and other similar arrangements with sponsors which could also come into question. .......
Fox Sports is facing a major financial crisis of its own, with more than 200 workers at parent company Foxtel made redundant this week and a further 140 stood down without pay in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Fox is not expected to step away from its obligations with the AFL or NRL, but has been unhappy with the ratings performance of the A-League for some time, and many recent staff cuts have included football-specific presenters, producers and journalists.”

You and I are sailing in the same boat.... along with a few million others. Cash is king at the moment and the only discretionary spend I have kept on (actually increased) is on the alcohol 🍺 For hand sanitizer right? Lol

+x+xI guess that means the FFA is trying extra hard to see out the broadcast deal. It certainly confirms that no alternatives are on the horizon. It's actually very depressing news. Maybe flying all the HAL players to an island is an option...

+x+x+x+x+xare fox subscriptions going down when everyone is locked at home?? ill call bullshit. they are likely using covid as an excuse to cut costs. This. We are now in a severe recession - typically FoxTel would do poorly in such an economic environment. at the moment you can get foxtel now - streaming - basic package for $25 per month and their entire catalogue is available. https://www.finder.com.au/foxtel-free-upgraded-content-and-unlimited-data So many more and cheaper alternatives. This is a time when Foxtel has genuine competition for home entertainment. $25 per month for full access - without the box - is putting it in the ball park of other streaming services. how does their content line up with other providers?

Amazon Prime at $6.95... Fox is still expensive and it's owned by Murdoch.

Really, what has he done, other than standing down 70% of staff while keeping his fat executive salary ?

I have Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime (which gives me free/expedited delivery and Audible) for $26 a month. Foxtel is only for Live Sport and HBO and now, half of that is gone.
