The A-League needs to start ASAP! The rugby league are starting back this month and our season started before theres!?! A-league should start before the league and finish before them earlier. Not good enough FFA!!

Positive for the A-league restarting so late is that we will have a very short off-season as plans are in place for an October kickoff!

Sports stars around the world have been caught out breaking coronavirus restrictions but none have been as brazen as NFL star Roquan Smith. While NRL stars Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr and Nathan Cleary have been widely criticised for ignoring social distancing laws during the pandemicgnoring social distancing laws during the pandemic, the Chicago Bears linebacker made Australia's footy stars look like choir boys with a stunt that has been described as "simply idiotic"

Yeah everyone is stupid except the Australian footy players what a stupid article.

What if ASAP is August?

Will have an impact on the FFA cup

To be honest don't care about the A League as that's been on the downward path for a while. More concerned about local leagues starting up again as this is where the next Socceroos and Matildas are going to come from

No - they acted on the recommendation of the Federal CMO. In this instance the Federal CMO advised Border Force who made the decision they were responsible for and told NSW Health how to act. When NSW acted the way they were advised Border Force blamed NSW Health.
Oh dear pat ....

"On Tuesday, a special commission of inquiry into the ill-fated voyage heard that, under guidelines implemented the day the ship docked, NSW Health had to be informed if there had been a respiratory outbreak of more than 1 per cent of passengers on board.

Counsel Assisting the Inquiry, Richard Beasley SC, said a NSW Health team assessed the vessel as “low risk” by at least 4.40pm on March 18, but possibly earlier.

The ship’s log used to make that assessment recorded 36 of the 3795 people on board had presented to the medical centre with relevant symptoms – 0.94 per cent.

As the 1 per cent threshold had not been reached, passengers were allowed to disembark at Circular Quay the next day without any teams from NSW Health boarding to ship to make assessments."

So NSW Health let them disembark based on a technicality ... because ONLY 0.94% had the virus.

Update: The 1% rule itself was part of a NSW Govt guideline developed by NSW Health. Disgraceful that Minister Haz(z)ard has tried to implicate the Federal Govt.

If the rugby league can start before then then there is NO reason why the A-League can't too. Not good enough FFA!!

What rugby league do, or don’t do, has no bearing on what football should do. How many times on these pages do we see people comment that football should do its own thing and not copy other codes?

And the circumstances are completely different between the two codes.

Football has 100% of this seasons tv money in the bank and only has a fraction of the season to complete, a season which can be completed in a matter of weeks with zero impact on next season.

Rugby League only has 25% of this seasons tv money in the bank, the remaining 75% is at risk if they don’t complete the season.

Worse still RL have 99% of their season to complete which will take months to do. And to compound matters, they have contracts that guarantee a minimum rest time between seasons so if this current season over runs badly then the start of the 2021 season may get delayed - this presents a financial double whammy for NRL at risk of reduced revenue from this disrupted season and a knock on effect in to next season if the season start is significantly delayed.

So there is every imperative for NRL to start up quickly, even though they’re taking a huge gamble in doing so. Get it wrong and NRL 2020 may just get cancelled altogether.

The HAL is effectively in “close season” right now; it looks like players will be brought back up to fitness in July, complete the 2020 season in August, have a one-month pre-season in September, and start the new season in October.

That’s a pretty eloquent solution and looks to be one that has the lowest risk to the game as a whole, the clubs, and individual players.

Bundesliga given approval to restart in 10 days time.

There’s a huge “so what” to that though. I’ll repeat part of my earlier post on this topic:

“The HAL is effectively in “close season” right now; it looks like players will be brought back up to fitness in July, complete the 2020 season in August, have a one-month pre-season in September, and start the new season in October.

The HAL looks to have selected a reasonable course of action given that there is no perfect answer in what us an unprecedented crisis. What the Bundesliga, EPL or even NRL have done has no bearing on what the best approach for the HAL is.

As long as players loss of income and mental health, and the engagement of fans is not an issue then it doesn’t really matter when they start, I suppose.

You don’t see any issues with the league getting ready for next season, signing players etc in a four week offseason window? Seems like a sure way to bugger up next season as well as this one.

I can see lots of problems with starting the season in August, I can also see lots of problems with starting the season at the end of this month as the NRL are trying to do.

There is no easy solution to this.

And saying the A League should start back when the NRL and Bundesliga start back us as helpful as saying the A-League should be called off entirely because that’s what the Dutch and French have done.

I hope the FFA and clubs have evaluated all the options and have selected not “the best” but the “least worst” amongst all the options, and certainly an option that balances all the potential risks. If that is an August competition then everyone is just going to have to work around it.

There is nothing normal in life at the moment and football shouldn’t try and pretend it’s an exception.

I have never said the ALeague should start when other codes start. Just as I never said it should have stopped playing when other codes stopped.
What I would like to know, as I’m sure players would like to know, is why the FFA doesn’t think it’s possible (or sensible) to start before August. If they have a plan and a logical rationale (even if it is quite different to other codes) let’s hear it.  Even pubs, restaurants and cafes are making plans to open earlier than August.

So ONE week before the Bundesliga is due to restart, Dynamo Dresden are forced to put their entire squad in to TWO weeks isolation and won’t be able to train or play.

Absolute muppets. The Germans are normally better than this.

Yeah, fancy having a plan where you test everyone so you know exactly who has the virus and are able to deal with it. The alternative is to not test every player, and just hope that at some time in the distant future no player has the virus?
What a coincidence that of all teams, the team least likely to benefit from a restart has to go into quarantine ....just saying

There’s no doubt the teams threatened with relegation  have the most objections to restarts - I guess losing regularly makes a team quite fearful ..... probably the same in the Mariners and Victory camps right now 😁

Very good read.
I think this bloke gets it. Professional rugby in Australia is probably finished and there won't be a national comp.

This line is interesting:  "But instead of trying to create the A-League (we’ve failed at both Super Rugby and the NRC), let’s just keep the structure that’s been there all along. "

One way or the other, we will have a national football league, even if it has to be semi-pro for a couple of years.

Rugby will return to its amateur state leagues.  It will effectively fall behind football.

It's just embarrassing that anyone would  suggest Gallop as a saviour for Rugby.Clearly people dont do any background research .They hear a name they have heard of and thats it.
If that is how Rugby people think then it explains why they are in a bigger mess than us.
Israel Folau must be laughing .Getting paid out of his contract to not play ,by an organisation with no money, while players that are under contract will probably not get paid.
FFA would struggle to do that badly.

2 sets of training. Either at the same time with physical distancing or spaced out. That’s how junior clubs are planning on doing it. Not ideal, but within three weeks it should increase to 20.

Meaning they are of the view that RA is not a going concern as things stand (and are currently trading while insolvent).

yeah good point. I can't see the AFL starting in June like they are hoping. But I have to give them credit for being ambitious. something football in Australia has always lacked unfortunately.
