This is it- they're committed to finishing the season, as it should be.

If the season is not finished in the original timeline will it even be the same season - do player contracts go further than current end date, do clubs have different kit manufacturers, do sponsors see thru the contracted dates currently set, etc. Finishing all games remaining is the only fair way to award any titles, qualifications, promotions and relegations - but it also isn't a fair way to finish the season as it isn't really even this season.

So the only logical conclusion to draw is to consider this season null and void and start fresh next year.

I'm not sure what happens re. kit deals or sponsorship arrangements, and it would depend on whether there was a specific end date or it was based upon the season ending.

Valid points that I'm sure every single League in world (incl AL) needs to deal with being we haven't experienced anything like this (disrupting seasons) since WW1/2 I suppose.......
Money/contracts/kit deals etcetc are things not dealt with way back then (less complications) BUT under these unique (there's that word) circumstances I see no reason why the current season can resume and finish through their summer IF play is cleared to resume IF all agreed, discussions would be held with major sponsers/clubs/players to accept in the spirit of the game.
Players won't be burnt out (but for adjusting to playing in the heat like ours here) for look at the break/rest/recovery COD19 has imposed.
Thats my pov so as the following season can resume at normal scheduling.
This is a "hopeful" scenario I'd like to see no matter if LFC was 1st as currently is or battling mid table.

West Ham are an easy example of a club who every single day of the week are going to vote for starting a season fresh vs picking this one up. Sp*rs and Arsenal would be similar.

This season being declared null and void is the only reasonable way to declare this, I cannot work out anything else being fair.

This season being declared null and void is the only reasonable way to declare this, I cannot work out anything else being fair.

If that's the case then surely all the clubs would have to return ALL the money that they have received to date from the TV Right's, Sponsorships, Season Tickets, European Club Competitions prize money, etc, etc - That would ALL need to be returned.

On top of returning all money received, all Club and National Coefficient points that were gained would also have to be rescinded.

Clubs both big and small, and all those inbetween will find themselves in dire straits financially.

I can not see how making any season (anywhere worldwide) that has played most of the the season's matches null and void.

What is the correct thing to happen??  In my opinion, if possible play the final few matches over the summer. Even if it has to be behind closed doors.

For the leagues who have only recently started, I can see the argument for those seasons to be made null and void, but NOT for those who have played the majority of their season.

Here's a radical idea-

Considering the huge popularity of Premier League football in countries like Japan and Korea, I wonder if it would be possible for the EPL clubs to be granted permission to fly their squads over to those countries where the COVID-19 threat has been managed and (should it be safe to do so) play the remaining matches in their stadiums before sellout crowds?

The teams would get to play in front of full houses, security would be impeccable in those countries and it would be a treat for those fans to see Premiership football on their doorstep- as well as a great cash cow for the EPL.

Those countries have contained the disease because they aren't letting people in. Pretty much all their cases are import-only now.

BB - I got an email from the Jerks last night saying my final monthly membership payment would still be taken as normal. I have accommodation and flights for holidays now cancelled but will not be getting refunds. I doubt many people in the entire world are not losing money from this virus, and not getting full/much/any value from what they've paid for. And we are all in for a world of hurt - football clubs, their leagues and their sponsors are not isolated from this. So cancelling the league, and everyone losing everything they've put into it to date, is at least consistent with how the rest of the world is experiencing things currently.

Were in limbo like everywhere regards sport.
Nothing can get worked on till this situation gets in control on the down cycle making it somehow safer to reduce this isolating distance etc  and hopefully sooner not later thanks to a vaccine/cure.
So we have a pandemic that has stopped Euro leagues nearing their end to finish as we all know.
Never happened since the wars etc....disrupting a season.
Well pv4, your pov is null and void, imo being there is only handfull games left due to circumstance all those leagues can call the winners/losers incl pro/relegations.
Yep, can't please everyone but it is what it is.
At least decision is made due to unusual circumtances.
Asterik noted on 2019 season shortened by 8games etcetc

CH, no point playing remainder games abroad, the loss's already financially is huge not good adding more.

Hi. Newbie here)
I also think people are being unrealistic in their timlines for returning. Genuinely think it could be a full 9 months to ~16 months from now before PL returns. As long as the virus is out there and largely untreatable, PL games will not happen.

It's going to be interesting to see how (what now looks like) the restart to the top few leagues will play out, and what sort of effect they may or may not have on the wider public - Even if the games are played behind closed doors.

Anyways, whatever happens,  I wish you all the best pal, and enjoy the success that looks to be coming your way after such a long wait (even though I don't follow the EPL at all). 🙂

cheers mate !
Waiting has been the norm but since the Klopp appointment been well worth the wait and the last couple of years have been exciting to say the least.
Whatever whenever the trophy just needs to be lifted in the air - LFC supporters will rejoice all over the world apart from that no matter what club and league we support just can't wait for all being back on the park giving us highs and lows.

I'll be curious what the SPL brings next season.

*BUMP*

I was down at my local a couple of times last week (great to be back for the first time since March!) and while out in the smoking area on Sunday after the Knights v Raiders match had wrapped up I saw a guy sitting nearby and heard his accent. Asked if he was from Merseyside (he was) and followed by asking was he red or blue? "Red" he answered. To which I opened my jacket to reveal my '6 Times In Madrid' shirt with the 6 different Adidas sneakers on it in the defeated teams' colours, and then talked briefly about the league returning and finally getting to win it officially. He pointed out that "We've had it won since January, let's be realistic" and I agreed and again it felt kind of surreal to be talking about LFC's first league title in 30 years- even with the uncertainty of the lock-down- in such casual terms.

Considering how venues here are opening up, I'm wondering if there'll be any fan bars open for the remainder of the season? Would love to catch up with some fellow Reds to see the season out and watch us lift the trophy at last!

nice BUMP CH !
Sure is better times than we've experienced the last months but there is light at the end of the tunnel finally !
Importantly football re starting and LFC to finish the job off officially as mentioned.
I'm guilty as well having watched more NRL than I have in years just glad "live" sport is coming back.
Can't wait for the EPL, numbers attending at venues will be the issue as we know - love to catch up with fellow Red supporters to enjoy our title wait of 30bloody years !

countdown to EPL re start Thursday morn our time 3am.
Villa vs Sheffield United followed by City vs Gooners.
Can Villa start well their relegation challenges ?
Can Gooners do us a huge favour ? :)
We have to wait till Monday 4am for the Toffee showdown - what a game to start with for us.
Backing up Thursday 5.15am vs Palace.

Well, the break sure did effect our momentum and not surprised I guess.
We had Robbo not ready to play due to our Medical team saying so.
Salah Gini on the bench.
Matip starting up.
Milly @ Robbos spot.
So we were a little disjointed but still strong line up but we were very rusty that final pass wise.
Carlo had them sit deep naturally and they did their job well as the score shows.
We just couldn't flow well enough at all being first game back so we went at their pace to me tehrefore allowing them to park the bus with ease.
The games first corner (ours) wasn't till early 2nd half, pretty much sums up our attack.
We did have a couple of lucky scares - they should have scored and Thank Fuck Allison and Gomez saved our souls.
Weird derby with no crowd, took alot of pressure off the players.
A point is a point - at least we got some runs under our legs, 8 to go and results the next week or about could be it.

One of those games where I feel kind of ripped off having to stay up until bullshit hour to watch a terrible game overall. Typical result at The Shed and I guess a point is a point moving forward. But if that secondary shot deflected off the post doesn't sum the Bitters in the derby up over the past decade, I don't know what does?

C'mon Burnley!

Well Burnley supporters made a impact more than their players sadly......

Hope we get back on song vsing Palace......
For sure Salah will be in start up, Matip big toe injury I expect Gomez slide next to VVD.
Robbo probably back at LB.
Mids Gini I expect starting up with Hendo and Fabs.
Milly hammy concerns how long out.
5points to title.

yer you bet it was ! what a swerving spot kick !!!
As were the other 3 for me.
Fabs over the top ball for Salah and easy finish followed by Fabs pile swerving drive wow.
Now thats the LFC we come to know this game.
Complete performance compared to the toffee game we just weren't switched on being first game back.
Pretty much normal start up sqaud, huge diff having Robbo back in his LB.
They losing Saha early 1st half would have jolted them but we were already dominating the game.
Brilliant work rate off the ball to win it back.
Sadio is a beast.
21 shots to 3, on target 8 they 0
Poor Gini had a few chances in good position though not easy.
74% possesion to 23%
6 corners to 0

Not expecting chelsea to beat city if so happy days), it no matter its round the corner now, weeks rest before we take on City away, now this is THE game ! wouldn't it be fitting we knock the defending champs off at home taking the Trophy !
