With how wrong val has been lately with his articles, i find it hard to believe anyone is still taking anything without a quote from someone at united seriously. 6 out of the 7 olast articles he has written have been rumors probably made up by him.

Dunno if his inaccuracy is just confined to recent times. I find it virtually impossible to take anything printed in the Advertiser seriously.

Come on guys. Val is always on the phone to the various agents and organisations. If anything, he gets the inside info prematurely.

Quote:LUCIANO Trani isn't expecting any urgent calls from John Kosmina before the clash against Pohang Steelers at the Steelyard tonight.
With Kosmina busy completing stage one of his coaching AFC A-Licence in Canberra this week, Trani believes the Reds A-League chief is confident that Adelaide will continue to shock Asia with another solid effort in Pohang.
"He hasn't called me since we've been here," Trani said.
"He's going to be too busy doing his course.
"I think he'll be snowed under for the next few days but we've sent text messages to each other with the run down of the day's work."
Adelaide's official AFC Champions League boss said the 4-1-4-1 system game plan was actioned long before the Reds arrived in Korea on Sunday afternoon.
But Adelaide, for the first time since Kosmina opted for the dour defensive tactic for Asian football, will seriously stare at its own game in the mirror.
Pohang is not afraid to defend in numbers, play direct football and use its height to lump balls inside the box.
The Steelers have adopted the same 4-1-4-1 system which morphs into a 4-4-2, Trani said. Trani said the Steelers were super in transition, using speed and agility in the counter attack.
"They've got a couple of tall strikers and forward players and Park has got the ability to cut inside and strong on his right hand side," Trani said.
"But if we keep them away and prevent runners inside the penalty box that will stop one of their strengths.
"They might even throw some 4-4-2 in the direct play, they like to play direct football," he said.
Adelaide can start booking its passage towards the round of 16 if it beats the Steelers, given the Reds top Group E with six points - three more than Pohang and Bunyodkor who face bottom club Gamba Osaka in Tashkent tonight.
The Steelers have never scored a goal against the Reds in four meetings.
Although Adelaide's penalty box took a battering with heavy foot traffic in both Steelyard clashes, United has come away with a 2-0 result and a scoreless draw in 2010. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soccer/reds-focus-strategy-for-afc-encounter-with-pohang/story-e6frectc-1226316925140Not again... Didn't anyone else enjoy watching us effectively destroy Gamba Osaka? That night at Hindmarsh was anything but dour. Yet the phrase is used twice in the same quarter of a page we are afforded in the Advertiser now footy season has started! Look, I just think we all know we had a horrible season to forget BUT; We are two from two in the ACL so far!Why keep up the negativity? Let's make it a clean slate. We ALL hopefully want to see the fans back at Hindmarsh. I don't think it's constructive for any fans to be spreading a message that we are dour and defensive etc. Do we ALL want the fans back at Hindmarsh? I reckon most of us fans do... Playing smart counter attacking football and winning is ot necessarily "dour defensive tactics". That immediately puts a negative connotation to it. We have played 2, scored 4 and conceded 1. That's pretty good in my eyes. I would imagine most Italian soccer fans would feel the same? ;) Edited by davide82: 3/4/2012 09:18:32 AM

The vast majority of the time in either game in the ACL has not been dour. The last 30 minutes against Bunyodkor we tired and it didn't look pretty but thats about it. The article does make it sound like tonights game is going to be 2 teams sitting back deep, hitting long balls and trying to hit the other on the counter attack. I doubt that's going to happen as Pohang are unlikely to break us down that way. Also last week on TWG, Fozz called the way we play in the ACL "safer" and doesn't require as much skill. If it was so safe and easy, why doesn't every other team that tries it win games? I guess we should be lucky they even talked about our game.... they only talked about CCM this week. P.S. Valentino is Italian so maybe we are in the minority here :)

With all the bad press about the owners here's something a little more positive (at least with their intentions). It's a pity it didn't come off :( Quote:Chappell Stand Sail/Cover Relocation Wednesday, 18 April 2012 8:07 AM The media covered the matter of the demolition works at Adelaide Oval and the $535m upgrade. By way of background, Adelaide United through owner Robert Gerard recognised an opportunity to improve facilities at Hindmarsh by reusing the sails/covers that were at Adelaide Oval. It was understood that significant engineering reports would be necessary, however the building schedule over ruled that possibility with the AFL Season in 2014 the overriding factor. Media Transcript Adelaide United CEO Glenn Elliott has answered questions regarding the club’s request to utilise the sails/covers at Adelaide Oval Chappell Stands, which are being dismantled as part of the ground’s redevelopment. Reporters: How disappointing was it to be given the brush off in terms of trying to retrieve the sales from the Chappell Stands? Glenn Elliott (GE): It is disappointing because Hindmarsh is a north south facing complex and shade on the eastern grandstand would have been fantastic, especially for what is now a summer sport in the A-League. Obviously Rob Gerard issued a very strongly worded letter to Pat Conlon – do you sum it up as just bloody mindedness or wastage or haste to get the Adelaide Oval redevelopment underway? GE: I guess that people are going to be in a better position to judge that than me, but the origin of it came up in a February board meeting here where Rob Gerard had met at the cricket with Ian McLachlan and Pat Conlon and made a suggestion that the sails would look terrific down here at Hindmarsh and what a terrible waste it would be if they weren’t utilized. But they were under SACA’s ownership and SACA have said it would hold the project up too much. So you have missed the window if it was open at all? GE: Well it sounds very much like it now, the salvage company have certainly moved as I understand it to just tear them down. When you see or hear that the sails are basically just lying ripped to shreds under a pile of rubble, does that make it even worse that they’re being used for nothing? GE: It’s beyond us to comment on that other then the fact we registered interest following advice from the two relevant people and now that opportunity has passed. Did you have expert engineering advice that the sails could have worked at Hindmarsh Stadium? What would it have meant to Hindmarsh Stadium to have the sails there? GE: It would have been fantastic! Hindmarsh is a wonderful stadium, especially during summer. If we had those sails pitched on the eastern side of the ground, not only would it have made Hindmarsh a far more appealing place, practically it would have been fantastic. But you’re right about engineering works and things like that, it may well have taken some time but it’s too late now. When you see the amount of tax payer money the government is putting into basically improving cricket and football at Adelaide Oval and you’re being charged a fortune to operate here and you’re not even able to use a second hand tarpaulin, are you starting to feel a bit like the poor cousin of South Australian sport? GE: It’s interesting to see the mix of things over the journey now, but we would love to see Hindmarsh as a state of the art facility. I mean it is the home of football or soccer in this State and it really has its spiritual home here and we would like to see the place improve, not only for players but supporters. This is a massive participation sport and everyone who is in South Australia associated with the sport regards Hindmarsh as home. Could you update us on were you are at with the stadium deal? Has there been any movement or changes there? GE: It’s an ongoing issue for us and as I said before, we only want to play here at Hindmarsh but this is also a business so you have to make economic decisions that make sense, so hopefully we move towards that but it’s a drawn out saga. So there is every chance you might be finding a new home? GE: I wouldn’t go that far. Everyone associated with the code wants football played here and this is the home of football and this is where we want to be. Do you see the irony with soccer being in this predicament when the government is prepared to use half a billion dollars of tax payers’ money to find a new home for Aussie Rules? GE: We understand the economic implications of a redeveloped Adelaide Oval, but likewise there is also a strong economic argument for Adelaide United here. If Adelaide United wasn’t here and wasn’t thriving, there is probably about 15-20 million dollars of economic benefit which disappears out of this State. The issue of Adelaide United and Hindmarsh should never be restricted to a single match day figure. It’s all of the visiting teams, the associated wages, the associated catering which benefits not only the government but the State of SA as an entity, so the economic argument that has been applied to Adelaide Oval equally applies to this club and what it brings to this State, and I think it should be explored more thoroughly than has been the case to date. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/adelaideunited/news-display/Chappell-Stand-SailCover-Relocation/46939

The sails would have looked brilliant over the east stand. Hell, even the north and south stands too. Would be nice for Hindmarsh to retain some of the noise made by fans.

We have a game tonight. Anyone going? I am.
Have offered the club $20 to allow me to hand-write my name on the game jerseys in texta as a sponsor. Now Clive is out I'm probably the best option and they'll be $20 better off. It's a bit sad that the best ACL team in Australia can't get a shirt sponsor.
I wonder what the minimum spend would be. Wouldn't it be great if the fans pooled some dollars and became the front-of-shirt sponsor for the last home game. I'd be in for $50. Just need a couple of hundred of us and we'd have $10,000 to offer for one game. Then Val would have real story to write about something positive.
Dreaming...

the only way football(soccer) is gonna get a better profile in this country, especially south australia is if people start going to games and we get averages 11000-12000 year after year. a big factor in acheiving this is stopping live coverage of united games on game day i.e. we need some sort of setup like afl had with a different footy channel in each state and a crows game would not be shown live if it was played at west lakes. this will force people to hindmarsh (well not forced, but it will provide more incentive) more reguraly. its too easy to stay at home which i am sad to say, am contemplating doing tonite against pohang. an asian champions league game "should" have a crowd of around 12000 i would of thought. but us aussies arent interested unless its some sort of final game. its the way we have been brought up. its quite sad tbh
