NO player is bigger than the club. pro-soccer is a career/business, not just a hobby.

Don't get me wrong shattered about him joining the tards, but I smiled when I saw the headline and in fact started laughing. It takes Marcos of the pedestal and allows us to move on. One thing I'm worried about is all those people who were basically saying they won't support the club if we didn't sign him, some people are just stupid.

It was always a long shot to get Flores back, never really believed it would happen.

It will be disappointing if he stars against us or helps Melbourne to success.

We should be in the best place to counter him having had him play for us. We should know his strengths and weaknesses better than any team and be able to use that against Melbourne. It might be a positive for us if Melbourne rely on him and we can nullify him. It would be great if he played well against everyone else and did nothing against us.

Comparing us with Melbourne we have a better goalkeeper, better defenders and if van Dijk and Djite can find form at least equal in strikers. Their midfield is a bit unknown with Bru and Finkler, could be very good, could be failures.

I still like our chances against Melbourne, we are going to beat them and finish ahead of them on the table.

Flores is only one player and cannot cover all the cracks in the Melbourne squad, questionable goalkeepers, a weak defense, a midfeild which has never played together with many unknown elements and aging strikers.

Don't know what to feel its sort of a weird empty feeling but on the other hand finally certain supporters can give this issue a rest.

I am so glad this game against victory in Melbourne is in Etihad. A tad optimistic but there is no reason we couldn't get 2-3000 travelling Adelaide fans over there for this match.

Thank you too Marcos for guaranteeing pretty much a full house at Hindmarch on December 7th. I mean we get a record A-league home and away crowd at hindmarsh.

The club I hate the most, with the head coach I hate the most, with Muscat on the bench, now have a former player we all loved.

Didn't think the feelings could get any stronger but I was wrong :)

Let's go out and get the next big thing on the cheap. We have 2 squad positions free and plenty of visa spots.

Announced today he has renewed his contract with that Ecuadorian club until the end of the year.

Will have to be someone else. No rash decisions either, someone they've been scouting for sometime.

I will be ashamed if our fans chant 'Judas' when he plays at Hindmarsh.

He wanted to come back, but we just couldn't fit him into our squad.

I am just glad that we will get to watch him again, and that the MVFC-AUFC rivalry will continue to be fueled up. I'd rather he play for MVFC than in another country.

Exactly. And its not like this announcement would have been a surprise to the club. Off the top of my head, since round 1 of last season we have said good bye to:

Slory, Levchenko, Dilevski, Mullen, da Silva, Birighitti

and have signed Fyfe, Teeboy, Barker-Daish, Bowles,

There is obviously more cash and visas available than 9 months ago!

+1 He received a bigger offer to China and went for the cash grab, realised how shit it is and said he wanted to come back, knowing full well our history with Melbourne Victory.

Melbourne to Adelaide is what Tottenham is to Arsenal, Inter to AC Milan, Real to Barcelona. Those rivalries might be BIGGER, but they are not necessarily more INTENSE.

We all are here to make money in our jobs, most people get that. However Flores and any supporter of his needs to understand the emotional connection we have to our club.

Anyways, i'm seriously over it. This whole Flores thing has dragged out almost as much as the Kewell to Victory thing.

Adelaide United Club Statement

Quote:
Adelaide United statement following the announcement that Marcos Flores has joined Melbourne Victory…

Adelaide United FC acknowledges Marcos Flores’ right to sign with Melbourne Victory but refutes any assertion or allegation that the club did not act reasonably or commercially to secure his services within the extremely restricted time frame between the date of the termination of his Chinese contract and today.

To the contrary for reasons set out below, Adelaide United FC could not have done any more than it did. Had Flores given the club more time to make space within the salary cap, a deal may have been possible. That however did not occur as Flores decided to join Melbourne Victory.

The club’s negotiations and record of contact with Flores were as follows:

June 2011 A contract offer to Flores of $1million for 3 years was rejected. Flores demanded to be released to China citing Melbourne Victory was an option in the January transfer window if he was not released.
April 2012 Whilst still under contract in China, Flores’ agents put a proposal to Adelaide United for a $575k package per year to return to Adelaide. The club declined the deal.
May 2012 Adelaide United made its highest ever offer for a player or coach for Flores to return to Adelaide. This was rejected by Flores’ agents.
June 2012 Flores’ agents put another proposal to Adelaide which was beyond the club’s means.
Adelaide United FC had 22 contracted players for 2012/13 during the period of negotiation with little room in the salary cap, making it virtually impossible to act in the recruiting port folio. At the same time Flores’ agents were negotiating with other Hyundai A-League clubs which was their right. Importantly Adelaide United FC is proud of the squad list in its achievements during the current successful AFC Champions League campaign.

The two overriding factors in the Flores signing are a) Adelaide United could not afford his demands, and b) Melbourne Victory, a club with a turnover of $13million, has more resources than Adelaide United with a turnover of $6million and hence can outbid this club. It has happened to South Australia in other sporting codes and now it has happened here.

Very very poor form from Flores. This point is stands out the most for me. He truly is Judas.

So Flores rejected a deal of $333,000 a year, then a year later demanded $575000. A improved offer was then given which he countered with something unaffordable.
Looks like the club could not have done anything more, I think $575000 is too high for him.

Marca$h Flore$

I read the statement & I see a board of a club who can't keep/ find sponsors so it decided that going into a deal with the devil (aka Clive palmer) is the better solution out of what we had or can't generate any revenue to give our football department half a chance of keeping our best players and signing new quality ones...

Even if you don't count Bathurst or Gold Coast's Crowds, we still have the worst figures since we started and I bet come membership time, us that read the fourfourtwo forums will be the only ones buying the membership..

1 how's this Flores fault and two how can any reds fan be happy with the state our club is in - keeping it in the red by going for the cheap options IS NOT a good thing

My anger/concern is not all about Flores - its about not liking how things are run PERIOD, IMHO painting Flores in a bad light with their conference is so we don't think about stuff like this...and aroud here it's working a treat!
