Why is Ramsay in that line-up?

He is a waste of space.

I hope someone has stopped him watching Riverdance DVDs before every match.

Completely lost my respect, that's for sure. After being here for over a year and he doesn't understand our parochialism as well as our eternal rivalry with Melbourne? No integrity at all. Money speaks loudest for Flore$.

Marca$h Flore$

Moreca$h Flore$ ;)

I can't really blame the guy for chasing the money, that's what you do as a professional footballer. But as others have said, if you make a decision as a professional you cop the criticism as a professional. I respect what he did for the club while he was here, but by signing for Victory he goes against all that he said before about his connection with the fans of Adelaide and has knowingly disrespected those same fans. Backlash, warranted or otherwise, is to be expected and it's simply something he'll have to put up with.

Regarding the club's efforts to sign him, I don't think any blame can seriously be attached really. As they've explained, he was asking far too much for a single player, even as a marquee; if it was a case of living beyond our means by signing him, I doubt any fan would want to put the signing of a single player ahead of the financial security of the club.

This.
It is simple economics.
- MF only has a finite time with which to earn money as a footballer.
- AU couldn't match his needs with an acceptable offer. MF talked about MV even when he was in a Red shirt as his original bargaining tool for a better contract. - mortgaging the farm for one player is daft...what if got injured first game? then we'd be at the clubs throat for doing another stupid Coolen-like deal.
- Melbourne as a city is 3-4 times bigger than Adelaide
- MelbVC gets many more fans through the gate than we do.
- The pool from which to gain corporate support is obviously deeper in a bigger city.
= MVC has more money than AU to spend on nice-to-have baubles like marquee players.
....Next time some w@nker suggests the best thing for the HAL would be getting rid of the Salary cap and roster limits. Think of how you feel right now. It would have been a much worse feeling if MF had gone direct from AU to MV (think Sol Campbell or Louis Figo) Imagine SFC and MVC doing this every off season to every club in the HAL. That's how it works in Europe(the supposed holy grail of football) The few clubs from bigger cities with more money hoover up the better players and dominate their leagues.
As it stands now even with Flores AUFC 'could' still beat MVC over 90 minutes if we play well as a team - football is a funny old game/business.

Edited by vanbasten88: 5/7/2012 05:36:11 AM

I don't believe for a second we need to abolish the salary cap but it's no where near enough
As for your argument of Melboune being bigger therefore the can get more revenue, I'd like to know how proactive are our board in thinking outside the square....I can't honestly believe we are so unattractive that we can't find anyone considering our success in Asia

It's not just Flores, it's things like appointing a new coach for only one year & if this Triani rumour is true, I can't see any other reason tat makes logicical sence as to why the hell we would demote him (hopefully its bullshit)

Then there is our crowds.... Is anyone trying to find out why they've been this poor???

Can't believe I'm the only one that's worried about where our club is headed

The salary cap is a necessary evil and will/should increase when the new TV deal is signed off. I don't imagine for a second that the players (PFA) will let the opportunity pass without some sort of action aimed at getting their fair share out of the new deal. The salary cap needs to rise and if it can do so & still be covered by the FFA dividend to clubs then that's a great outcome IMO.
I think the owners are doing an okay job, not a brilliant one, but okay, just a pass mark from me based on last season's effort. I expect improvement from the front office this season.

This. Rome wasn't built in a day. We are currently sitting in the black, which, as far as I am aware, we have never done before. The club was bleeding money under Bianco, which is why he had to hand back the licence. The new owners are great, in my opinion.

Incorrect. We're still operating in the red.

We are only marginally in the black for the ACL campaign only, by about 15-16k, but that is negligible on the larger scale of things.

Just casually talking to usucar on Facebook chat haha lol seems like a top bloke loves it here said he has become a fan fav with the way he plays looks like he wants to be out there and has shown passion from the club from the start saying hope he does not leave anytime soon

he said he tries his best every game to play well for the club and fans and hopes he does not have to leave wants to stay. Kinda making it sound like he wont get his contract renewed at the end of it which would be a huge shame.

saying he has not had a chance to talk to Flores properly yet but knows he is really hurt and feels sad about the whole thing. Says people should remember what he did here and how he helped the club. He says he understands the heat on him but thinks its hard for people who come from over seas to get the rivalry here straight away.... but didn't say anything about how the guys feel if they feel betrayed and so on so on because he has no idea what has really happened yet what is truth and what is not.

well he will know about the rivalry anyway now lol

AHAHAH said to him just give flores a little ankle clip when he comes to hind marsh next season and he said HAHA yea i know i will i have to play hard against him and i will do it.

also said rini and kossie are very very similar at being head coach.

Good to see some proactive stuff from the club to keep us supporters in the loop.
Like Kossie, I too played on Hindmarsh when the Bailetti stand was it's main feature, it also had Brasil's u20's playing on it as well as Rangers, Newcastle, Bayern Munich, Ajax etc u20'S.

As for crowd enlargement United Gal - easy peesy JUST WIN EVERY HOME GAME.

It appears that with Trani & Valkanis we have a situation where the club and coaching staff have determined that the existing resources were not being utilised in the most approprate manner and not to their strengths. Trani is going to continue to do what he was already doing and also focus on working with the younger boys and getting them prepped for stepping up to the seniors. Valkanis has been recognised for the good work he has been doing with the young lads and is now being groomed to take over as the next senior coach at the club. Petrillo is being made responsible for proactive recruitement for the club and not just being the 'football manager' (what a dumb title). Expect to see Kossie moving into a completely different role at the club next season, Valkanis taking over as Senior coach and either another new assistant coach come in or Trani being moved back into that role with another taking over the NYL job.

Frankly sounds well planned and nothing like a 'shambles'.

Exactly. Our core of support didn't contract, but the fringe did. Last season showed what happens when spectators are not turned into fans.

Correct

But its not as simple as winning every game when we were bottom and still got AT least 10 000- 11000 each game before this season.

1 it's marketing., which I've believe FFA in general has scored own goals on that
2. Like it or These spectator came mainly due to people like Flores - our core will turn up regardless who is there, the spectator not so much...who you have on the park as well as how we play keeps them there. That's a fact of sport.

That's why I harp on my conserns that we are rather wanting to go the cost cutting way out rather that looking at raising revenue. HUrts our ability to be successful on the pitch LONG TERM which will termites our ability to keep our crowds up.

Sadly the age old quote is true - you have to spend money, to make money

At first it sounded like a WTF are you doing call, seems well planned in the end

The rumbles that the players were xxxed off had me worried

Sounds ok.

Some of Trani's mates came out on twitter saying how poorly it was handled.

Hopefully it was just a bit of poor communication again and they can all move on.....
