And of course AT LAST! we have our Tom Cruise impersonator, perhaps the best in the game.
I'm telling you, it's all positives.

+x+xCant exactly say I'm stoked, but will give Baz my full support until rd10... Hopefully Burton is keen to follow Baz... Barrett brings such a different approach to the game that he can change this team and club more than anyone has done since The Wok. I think he'll be a successful coach, but even if he isn't just bringing that change and embedding it makes him the best appointment we could've made IMO. We will be completely different. Win lose or draw we will be a 21st century football team, not one mired in the past. We needed generational change and Barrett is next generation. We have got nothing to lose... change is needed in all aspects of the club.... Hopefully the board and CEO are working on scouting, player development, juniors, finances, sponsors, equipment... giving the coach the real ingredients he needs, the environment and the backing.. The funny thing about NRL is that there is a right formula for every era, and an era can be as short as 1-3 seasons, but the same basic skills and formulas work in all eras.... Our team tries hard and put in the effort, what I hope Barrett will bring is more smarts, better game management, betting licking game, more options and organisation in attack, better execution..... Get the attack working, confidence, effort an attitude will fix a lot of the defence,. We need some better players, but they are coming, very happy with all signings so far this year, Thompson, Cotric, Barrett, even Lafai is OK, only because we don't have anyone better.

Won’t agree he is the best choice but agree with the rest... Will back the Board are doing as best they see fit for the club...As I have all along...
I’m glad it’s done, though would’ve preferred an immediate start...

Barrett told the club to let CHN go as he is selfish and has disrespected his club and team mates at more than one club...

Its been a while coming. People are nostalgic with the 80's style of play which yielded a number of premierships but the reality is that it doesn't do you much good in todays game. Im looking forward to Barrett implementing a significant change from the past. Even if he doesnt win us a premiership it will be a step i the right direction

His first interview as Dogs coach on NRL360 was very impressive. Very open about mistakes he made in the past and what he learnt from them. Even impressed chief cynic Kent.
and constantly used the royal “we”. There was no “they” or “the club”, it was we, we, we.
If you remember when Des first signed he didn’t say “we” for the first year.

And btw, he did confirm he’ll be involved in recruitment and retention among other things. For 2020 it’s Panthers 9-5 and Bulldogs in his own time.
AND, something you might not have known I certainly didn’t, he was a Bulldogs fan growing up. Brother played lower grades back in 90’s and he used to sneak into the dressing rooms. Favourite player is Terry Lamb.

I’m putting him on ‘gardening leave’ if I’m their Board... Too great a risk re bonds with fringe/stuck/disgruntled players especially...

He also remarked about being patient on recruitment for 2021. I get the impression he’s observed how many late season releases there’s been over the last few seasons (for immediate eg - CHN) and is keen to see who falls from the tree, and indeed who he may shake from it.
There’ll be plenty of players signed at a club for ‘21 who won’t be at that club in ‘21.

Panthers problem, not ours. I hope he sees out the year there, they’ll be playing finals, maybe GF, maybe win it. All experience I’d like him to bring with him.

Anyway, I’m sure Baz can’t wait to hear your target list for 21... No doubt Kevin Locke appears at the top of the list again... Followed by 4 contracted players.. .

Nice to see the NRL do sweet FA about the Raiders approaching a contracted CHN with still 2.5yrs remaining on his deal

On his form with the Wolfpack SBW is past it. I don't know why these journos are so obsessed with him. After his lack of respect for his teammates at the dogs, his defection to union twice, he doesn't deserve a lot of respect. He's only back now because union don't want him.

Barrett spent a tumultuous three seasons with the Sea Eagles where there were challenges both on and off the field. He had a messy exit in 2018 leaving a mark on his reputation. The former Test half spent 2019 out of work before linking up with the Panthers as an assistant coach to Ivan Cleary this year.
Fresh off the club’s announcement, Barrett told Fox League’s NRL 360 he spent last year reflecting on his previous time as a head coach and has learnt a lot since then.“I think there's lessons learned in three years as a head coach... a lot of things that you do differently but there’s certainly some things there that you’d thought you did well, it will put me in a hell of a lot better position to be successful in this job,” Barrett said.“The year off gives you time to self reflect on situations you could have handled differently, decisions that are made in football clubs have repercussions not only through the football department but the whole business.
“You can’t make emotional decisions, I think sometimes I was probably guilty of that and not thinking through the repercussions or the effects it has on other people. “There were times last year where I thought had I done the wrong thing, I was sitting on the sidelines out of work but I think hindsight is a good thing. “While I copped a few bruises on the way through, I think it’s going to be the best thing for me. I’ll certainly go into this with my eyes wide open and I won’t make some of the same mistakes again.” While Barrett’s stint with the Sea Eagles was filled with drama, he says going through that will make him a better coach this time round. “There’s a lot of things that you learn and a lot of things involved with being a head coach that you can’t get that experience just being an assistant coach. “I guess I could have sat comfortably in an assistants position for a long time but the experience and situations I’ve been put in over at Manly in the past, the year off and the time I’ve spent at Penrith this year I’ll be a hell of a lot better coach for it.”
And speaking of drama, the Bulldogs have had their fair share. There’s been reports of a split in the boardroom leading many to believe Barrett wouldn’t have the experience to be able to handle the pressure of that. He says he’s worried by any issues behind the scenes as his focus is entirely on coaching the team. “I’m not really concerned, there's politics at every club. I’m getting paid to coach the footy side. “I’ve been in a situation before we’re you get involved in things you don’t need to and I’ve got to be better at delegating certain things... first and foremost I’ve got to get the football department right, I’ve got to coach, that’s my sole focus and I won’t be distracted by any outside noise.”
One of the first tasks Barrett has is to make some big recruitment decisions. After a crippling three years in a dire salary cap situation, the Bulldogs have a war chest to spend. Raiders’ gun outside back Nick Cotric has already been secured on a three-year deal but he is just one piece to the rebuilding puzzle. Barrett knows the responsibility he has and says he will be patient to ensure no knee jerk decisions are made and the right players are recruited.
“In regards to their cap situation I’m not across it completely. Obviously there’s some spots in our roster that we need to strengthen in that team and fortunately based on what we’re hearing and reading there will be available cap space to spend. “It’s important that we don’t rush, the decisions that we make in and around that cap have got to be smart ones, it’s only July, there’s a lot of time in between now and the start of the competition next year. “We have to be really aware and very diligent in the homework we do on the players we need to sign because we’ve got to get it right.”
But that’s a job for when he’s off the Panthers clock. “That’s something I’ve got to juggle... when I get in the building at 7am and leave at 5pm my sole focus is the Panthers, obviously there will be things that we’ll have to do in the background that I’ll have to do in my own private time to get ready for next year.” The Penrith faithful can sleep easy knowing Barrett will see out the rest of the year at the foot of the mountains. He says he owes that loyalty to the Panthers for the opportunity the club gave him. “When I signed the contract to go back to Penrith we had a clause in there that I wouldn’t leave to take a head coaching role until the completion of a season and I’m determined to honour that, I think I owe them that. “I’ll be forever grateful to Penrith for giving me the opportunity... I said to the players today I wouldn’t be in this position if we weren’t going as well as we are at Penrith. “I’ve still got a job to do between now and the end of the year... the last thing I want is for this to be a distraction at Penrith.”

And I got to say Steve, I don't know where you get your concern about how articulate Barrett is.
On NRL360 he spoke directly, honestly, surely, no excessive pauses or um's and ah's, no rising inflections.
His mind is screwed directly to his mouth.
The link with the article above has the interview if you want to listen to it yourself.
