I don't know. Newcastle being gifted all the chances. I think wr should stop trying to defend the lead or this one will get away from us also.

That is where we need to get better playing a bit more footy when we are in the lead.

However, Newcastle had most of the ball and field position in the last 20 mins.

Katoa fairly good as a running forward off the bench.

Georgallis seemed to work the interchange well.

You have to give the boys credit on the handling and defence. For yhe last 28 minutes of the game we did not have one tackle in Newcastles half and most of our 5th tackle kicks were from the 35 or 40 metre mark in our own half, so well done Bulldogs.

Tolman, Napa, Foran, Meaney & RFM were excellent today. Sione Kotoa as a forward did well & got the one on one steal that lead to the 3rd try was good.

Montoya... he has no step, barely makes 3m with each hit up & Holland.... he would have to be the worst defensive centre in the comp

Tom has so much to work with next year.

In 3 years when we've had marginal if any talent and marginal if any attacking structure and plan, we have had in abundance effort and intent. And that goes deeper than just the team, it means it's in the football dept and indeed the club. We always turn up to play.

It's the steel that Tom can build something strong with, I know he'll bring the attacking structure and plan, here's hoping we give him the talent.

It's why Gould was right saying we can get back to the top quicker than those down the bottom with us, quicker than most that would find themselves in our position for 3 years.

Relief at last.
It was an awesome handling performance in the wet. The completion sets were amazing particularly in the first half.

BUT...

We lost our cool badly when Lewis went off. The 2 kicks from Wakeham were an abortion. He had plenty of time to kick and waited till the last second and was pressured by Kurt Mann. Poor Poor play by him. The clock was the Knights biggest enemy had he got proper kicks away. In the end it was heart attack stuff in the last 8 minutes.

Now the Pamfers need to do their bit and keep Titans within our grasp.
Would actually be lovely if the Broncos can get the spoon

Agree re Montoya. Tolman from a standing start makes more ground. Have never seen him beat a tackle and gets dominated every time.

Even if this team had CHN and JO we would be going better...
There are times we lack q dangerous ball runner.
But the effort has been there all the time the last 3 seasons, it takes a lot of spirit, effort and intent just to hang in.

In fairness, our forwards didnt exactly help the backs in that second half from kick returns.
It was Meaney, DWZ, Montoya and Averillo running it out for 4 tackles.
Jacko and Ogden chimed in with Thompson on the 5th tackle which often made the 10m on that last run but collectively it was 20m gain and kick from 30m line.

It was a hard slog in the wet and i feel we did as best as we could given the conditions and the mindset of trying to protect the lead.
On a dryer track i would have called it the most incorrect type of game to play and just inviting trouble.

We dont have the ability to play on a dry track. Its a learning curve. The best we can hope for now is wet games as they suit the style we play.

We needed an act of God (torrential rain and season ending injuries) to win our 2nd game of the season.

The odds are good this is an intense season where injuries are a factor and teams might hit the wall.
Sure it is unlikely but not 2000/1 level unlikely, if is probably 300/1 unlikely.

And btw, Sportsbet takes outlandish odd bets unlike the TAB.

Every week I take a $10 Margin (1-12, 13+) multi (8 games) and I don't take any combo that won't give me at least $1m return for that $10.... which usually include Dogs 13+ in there against whoever.

Back in the 90's I was a genius of picking the Dogs 13+ win - especially when we were underdogs in the game and paying juicy $6 - $8 on TAB

I agree re the second half running the ball out.
Watching the Titans, they were under similar pressure but had their players running wider and making ground to nearly halfway.

Dryer conditions would have allowed either linger passes or 2 passes wide to create some width and uncertainty in the defence.

Our team is still not very good at spotting opportunities and taking them. We are still pre-programned robots. Foran the exception.

JMK had a good game today but still already thinking about the next hitup when Tolman got an unusual offload away.

On a number of ocassions Lewis was already looking sideways and directing the next run while our forward was still fighting in the tackle. What if that player made a break or got his hands free for an offload?

It's a huge problem that seems will only improve if we get players with instincts or by nature, can expect the unexpected.

Watching the Panthers.
Commentators wanking over Steven Chrichton.
Rightly when he has the ball. In defence, not so.
Watch the Dons try from dummy half, Chrichton tags the marker behind his goal line with no one on the outside.
