Quote:Cassio to officially become an ‘Aussie’ Popular Adelaide United FC defender Cassio will officially be able to call himself an Australian on Friday.
Cassio, his wife Juliana and their two sons, Bernardo and Henrique, currently fall under Brazilian nationality but will all officially become Australian citizens at a special ceremony to take place at Hindmarsh Stadium at 11.30am this Friday (7 September 2012).
There is arguably no more fitting location for the ceremony than at the Reds’ spiritual home, considering the dual Adelaide United Club Champion’s influence and contribution to club and the game in this State since he arrived in Adelaide in June, 2007.
The ceremony will be conducted by Federal Member for Hindmarsh, Steve Georganas MP, while Adelaide United’s squad, football and administration staff, and a number of Cassio’s close friends will also be in attendance. Adelaide United supporters are also welcome to attend.
Media are invited to take footage and photographs during the ceremony, while there will be an interview opportunity with Cassio once the ceremony has concluded at approximately 12.00pm.
Event Details Australian Citizenship Ceremony When: 11.30am, Friday 7 September 2012 Where: Hindmarsh Stadium Who: Cassio and family, Steve Georganas MP Federal Member for Hindmarsh

Some better news with Cassio which is good.
Bad news about Teeboy. I guess he is upset and frustrated about what is happening and letting it out on twitter is very understandable. Get well soon.

If any of you have read the tiser today you will have read how ADP signing for SFC is a prime example of what a shit heap AUFC is ](*,) What a fucking ridiculous bow to draw. 1, sure he would have been great for the club, but he would have only gotten us an extra 3-4,000 people to games - Flores did that and cost SFA in comparison. 2, we are not a big enough market to attract the third party sponsorship that would be needed to cover his wage bill. 3, every success elsewhere is not a failure here FFS!

Hi Val,
These articles are not worth the paper they are printed on and given the fact they are printed on the same paper that goes into making the rest of that gossip trash rag some dare call a "news"paper, that's truly saying something.
The articles are simply mithering, barely legible pieces of opinion masquerading as journalism. If only the readers of the paper knew the motivations behind them or personal vendettas that may inspire them. Then they all, like so many of us do, could take these articles with a grain of salt and just shake their heads in sadness and astonishment as to why a supposed lover of football would want to take every chance they could to talk down OUR club in OUR city.
If football was held in any higher regard in this state these articles would just be shredded along with any ounce of dignity and respect they may have once garnered.
Regards,
Davide

The news about Cassio - a genuine club legend and a player who knows what passion and humility and loyalty mean - makes my day. His story is really about what the A-League brings to this country. Del Piero is wonderful news too, but Cassio and his family outrate that in my book by about a 1000 times.
Hope he has a cracker on Friday night.

Del Piero is right near the top of my list of favourite players and as much as I'd love to see him 13 times over the next 6 months rather than the once (unless we play in a final), he suits Sydney way more.

Adelaide's kit (and sponsor) looks class. I love how the league looks more and more professional every season. Move over EPL ;)

Also i think most adelaide fans would agree with me when i say we dont need a gimmick to enjoy watching the game, we just want to see the game played properly

Make that entertaining & winning football and we can see it go up by 4,000, at that point we are so close to sell outs week in week out that what value does a massive name like del Piero make for the club? Much prefer to make signing based purely on the impact they can make on how the club performs, not on how easy it becomes to sell.

The fact is adelaide is a very different market then sydney. We seem to take more pride in being able to say we were there when Leckie , Burns, etc played their first games and left the country to take on the world. In contrast no one ever talks about romario. Horses for corses really. Well done to sydney thougg, regardless its a great signing

If you don't check out the We Are The Reds forum click this link and get involved in a thread about the upcoming AGM to be held on 10/10/2012 for all 2011/12 Financial Members (not 2012/13 Financial Members, sorry!). I am especially interested in who else is interested in being nominated for the committee. Also to get to the pitch and stuff for Cassio's ceremony (or any training sessions and such) you enter through the members gate on Holden Street not the main gate on Manton Street. Portland Timbers are arguably the most well supported club in the MLS and they don't have any marquee players. Not to mention, on-field, they are bloody terrible at the moment. Still, the stadium is full every home game with passionate noise!

Davide I don't get The Advertiser in Singapore. Can you link me the article? Hmmm not sure they even bothered putting it on-line.Had a quick look then and didn't see it. The sum of it was we were alerted to the fact that del piero may want to move away from europe but someone at our club said "he is too old" so we didn't bother trying even though we were told about it blah blah blah. Complete nonsense article that completely ignores realities such as his 2million a year salary etc It doesn't matter if someone DID utter that one quote from within the club which is I'm sure how Val would defend the article. The fact we would never have been able to compete with any club that were in the race for him means why would we bother. Going to my folks house after work and they will have yesterday's paper so ill take a photo of the article and send it to you on twitter from my phone or something. Pretty sure I remember who you are

Del Piero is right near the top of my list of favourite players and as much as I'd love to see him 13 times over the next 6 months rather than the once (unless we play in a final), he suits Sydney way more. Im quite happy for my club to sign young exciting visa players looking to make a name that we can sell on as opposed to a massive name like del piero. we only have a 16 000 seat stadium so a marquee signing could not have that great an impact. Also i think most adelaide fans would agree with me when i say we dont need a gimmick to enjoy watching the game, we just want to see the game played properly I agree, just by playing entertaining or winning football we increase our crowds by 2,000 on average. Make that entertaining & winning football and we can see it go up by 4,000, at that point we are so close to sell outs week in week out that what value does a massive name like del Piero make for the club? Much prefer to make signing based purely on the impact they can make on how the club performs, not on how easy it becomes to sell. Portland Timbers are arguably the most well supported club in the MLS and they don't have any marquee players. Not to mention, on-field, they are bloody terrible at the moment. Still, the stadium is full every home game with passionate noise! hey Timber Tom Dan Gauntner from Portland Timbers Ticketing emailed me back regarding tickets and said to contact him back in december once the draw is out for MLS in 2013. Hoping to go to a game at Jen-Weld field next year. Taking my Adelaide United scarf. Edited by Timmo: 7/9/2012 05:12:57 PM

I am especially interested in who else is interested in being nominated for the committee. Also to get to the pitch and stuff for Cassio's ceremony (or any training sessions and such) you enter through the members gate on Holden Street not the main gate on Manton Street. Edited by general ashnak: 7/9/2012 10:23:27 AM General did the club forward any email to the 2011/12 financial members yet regarding the upcoming AGM cause i hadn't heard anything. I was about to go on red out loud to ask about the AGM. They sent a letter, I got mine yesterday so you may get yours today. They were posted on Monday, which is when I sent an email to Glenn asking what was going on. cool thanks will keep a look out. l ooking forward to the game tonight. 3 games at hindmarsh in 2 weeks.
