Seriously what is Sydney FC doing with their young players? Apart from a very few they dont seem to have much of a plan in bringing them through given how top heavy they are in the aleague.

South Central Coast FC will have to look north again.

Mabil moving from Denmark to mid-table Turkey with Kasimpasa. They’re currently 14th out of 18, but only 1 point behind Galatasaray.

I guess if he gets gametime at this level, he’ll still be in the frame for the Socceroos.

As long as he gets game time - when he was starting and scoring goals at club level, he was a pretty important player for the Socceroos. It was when he started to push back & sitting on the bench and not making squads, that he was fairly ordinary for NT.
Let's hope he rediscovers his old form quickly!!

I know Mabil has had covid - but the guy scored against celtic in Champions league game last year - so was doing alright. Becoming more tough to get regular senior minutes in europe - especially as a forward/attacking player it seems

Remember Thomas James, the Striker who signed for Perth last season but cracked the shits because he couldn’t get a game there?

Well he will be in a LOT of trouble after this incident yesterday. If he did that on the street, he’d go to jail.

https://twitter.com/its_shanen/status/1409400926805188613?s=21

He just came back from a 13 week suspension as well. I know in local footy if you get suspended an x amount of times, or total suspensions add up to x amount for weeks, you end up getting banned for life

Sydney will not win anything this season.

That they may not, but that’s not remotely close to what I was trying to say.

For what it’s worth, Corica has played HVDS, Ivanovic, Wood, Pavlesic, King, Swibel, Talbot, Nieuwenhof at various stages this season/ ACL season.

All comes down to Winning trophies vs youth development.

Sydney will not win anything this season.

The difference is the culture of the club. This year we’ve seen academy prospects Aquilina, Russell, Natta, Baccus and Wilmering play regularly at WSW. They are trusted. The investment in the academy is matched with on-field investment. CR has spoken about this frequently. At SFC in contrast, only King has played regularly. Nieuwenhof was SFC’s form player yet as soon as he got a minor injury he lost his spot to Paulo Retre who consistently underperforms. Patrick Wood was scoring goals yet SFC sign Bobo and Adam Le Fondre relegating him to the bench. Ryan Teague, the outstanding Aus prospect of his age group was given 5 mins of game time before he left. Out of the 4 SFC players in the 2019 U17 WC squad, they have received a combined 5 mins of game time. WSW have a culture of youth development and promotion. Sydney FC don’t. This is probably why he left.

This is standard youth player going from club to club stuff, similar to Alex Robertson leaving United to go to City, it’s very sideways.

Whether he has been promised first team football is another question, but these types of moves aren’t specific to SFC.

He’s just another youngster now behind Duke, Ibini, Yeboah, Kamau and McDonald. Plus, Auglah and Grozos, just as he was at SFC.

A player not many might know atm but Aiden Mostofi (2004) has defected from Sydney FC’s academy to WSW. He has played regularly as a 16/17 year old in Sydney’s first grade side and has been capped for the Joeys. He is a fast, strong and technical winger with an eye for goal. Big coup for WSW imo.

So why didn't he defect to the other NPL1 academy team Northbridge Bulls rather than drop to NPL2?

Can't bring them through with grandads Wilkinson, McGowan, Barbarourres, Ninkovic, Bobo, Caceres, Redmayne, Baumjohann and Brattan and le Fondre there. Did I miss anyone? Why not leave and try and actually make a starting A League team somewhere else?
They are performing though especially with Nink and Alfie there.

Talk about Nisbet too with him also getting some Euro club interest and he's the polar opposite to Kuol, someone whom is more technical but it seems the euro scouts think he can handle the European physicality and speed of the game over there?

Difference is, those players all stood out because of technique and skill, Kuol stands out because of pace and power. Those are things which really differentiate players.

Equally important also is the technique and skill which has been a common weakness with previous Aussie players.

The young breed of players coming through a different in this regard which makes It exciting but also challenging at the same time.as without the physical and mental capabilities they can still struggle with the challenges of Euro football.

Alou Kuol needs to be careful here, just seeing with recent history with other players such as McGree, Arzani, Pasquali whom went to Europe at big clubs only for them to not get what they wanted so far.

I wonder which other clubs that have looked at the young talent which has been a highlight this season, this must have seen we have a few around here...is there more to come with regards to European interest in our talent?

Murray Miller has left Rangers reserves to go on loan at Scottish league 2 club Elgin city
He just turned 19 and it’s good to be getting senior men’s football but 4th division in Scotland is a long way down the pyramid for a kid who was getting a bit of hype pre covid

Tbh, the standard of the Filo league would still be NPL2 standard, if not worse. I get that they're trying to improve it, but United City will continue to walk the league every year, simply because they can spend more money than everyone else. Until the Philippines finds a sustainable way to expand the league [and not shoot itself in the foot in the process], it will always be one of the more mediocre leagues in SE-Asia. The Cambodian league is considerably better [as a whole] than the PFL, albeit it doesn't have a team as impressive as United City either. The PFF still remains a thorn in the side of domestic football in the Philippines, and until there's wholesale changes within it, the league will never improve unfortunately. It's a shame, as there's a lot of potential for the Philippines.

Oh I know. I watch the matches on facey.  It's horrid but to the followers it's their game.  Football is still a minor sport despite the governing body being the oldest in asia . Hell we the domestic cup is named after paulo alcantara thei pinoy/Spanish player who played for barca back in the 30's. United aka Ceres have money due to the fact it was owned by Ceres group who are a multi billion company who run transport.  It's owned by some one now iirc. Also Football is a really popular sport in the university system but doesn't translate In the bigger picture

Hence why he is playing as a cm for United city.  And for the league in the Philippines who were semi pro for a long time until the 2nd rebrand 7 years ago. 30 k us a month is better than what we manage here.

He's never had any desire to go back to Europe, as he has to play as a fullback in Europe, whereas he's given free rein to pick his position in SE-Asia. I think he's best as a ball-winning midfielder or a box-to-box tbh.
