+xAre Adelaide fans happy with Verbeek? Or is it a case of you get what you pay for squad wise? I think he has played suicidal football at times and some sensible midfield choices this season would have gotten us more points in the moments that mattered. But yeah, the squad clearly doesn't have the depth of the current top 3 and now injuries have taken their toll too which doesn't help. We are probably doing about as well as our squad could deliver ladder wise regardless of the coach but one day I would love to see a coach that is between Kurtz and Verbeek in philosophy. Gombau was suicidal, Kurtz was a grinder and only Amor seemed to manage to get both working for 2/3rds of one season. We also haven't had a striker worth mentioning for so many years at Adelaide it's gotten laughable. When one has been decent they have barely gotten on the park.

I liked what I saw from Adelaide on Saturday night. Well organised and fit, clearly working for each other.

+xAre Adelaide fans happy with Verbeek? Or is it a case of you get what you pay for squad wise? Overall I'd probably have to say no. His top priority in pre-season should've been to find a high-quality replacement for Isaias. 7 months later and we still don't have anyone. We have played some nice attacking football at times this season, but it has been overshadowed by teams (even lesser sides like NJ, CCM and WSW) ripping through our midfield due to not having an experienced, quality anchor in midfield screening the back 4. Personality-wise, it was always going to be a huge gamble signing someone with his history. While the team for the time being seems content enough, I think the comments he made about Kitto were very irresponsible and he certainly didn't win any new fans. In general, I don't get the sense that they love playing under him (which isn't the end of the world and is a reality in many workplaces, but it certainly helps having a coach the players really admire and respect). The squad overall isn't too bad. The foreign signings of Maria and Opseth were decent on paper but have turned out to be quite disappointing, and that's on Gertjan as they're his signings. He definitely should've gotten rid of Boland, and obviously he had no say whatsoever with Chen. I think with a better coach this squad could potentially be battling it out for 3rd, but couldn't challenge SFC for the title. Moving forward I'd be happy for Verbeek to be moved on at season's end (not going to happen though) and be replaced with a local coach. I'd get rid of all current imports (possibly even Jakobsen) and focus on signing a gun foreign striker and CDM.

Gertjan is a good fit for AUFC to continue to play the style of football that was introduced with Gumby, though I do find it to be a little too Arsene Wenger for my liking at times. The squad is over-performing with the depth it has and as long as it finishes inside the top 6 is a dark horse for the GF, if they practice penalties.

D'Arrigo at No.6 has been one of the best young players in the Aleague, the club don't feel they needed to replace to Isaias when they have an already made replacement in their youth ranks. Your problem is not in midfield its the defence, also not having a real quality No.9 Is a problem although I like Al Hassan Toure he's still raw that needs more time and Opseth hasn't impressed me at all. Verbeek is a decent coach, he's not perfect but he's willing to play young players and play attacking football.

Verbeek is a decent coach, he's not perfect but he's willing to play young players and play attacking football. I'm well aware that D'arrigo is a very promising young player and I think in a couple of years he'll be a fantastic player. But as a AU fan I'm being realistic: he is an 18 year old who's played less than 20 senior football matches and has been asked to fill the huge void left by the best CDM to ever play in the league. It's well-known that Verbeek had no intention of signing a foreign CDM, which is what was required. Our defence isn't getting the protection in midfield they've been accustomed to for the past 5 seasons, so the midfield absolutely is an issue. Though I do agree the back 4 have also been disorganized all season, which ultimately Verbeek has to take responsibility for. Of course our lack of a consistent, clinical striker is another issue, but the fans have become so used to this problem it pretty much goes without saying. The real problem with Verbeek was that he needed to be a better coach than Kurz to justify being signed, especially given the extremely unprofessional manner the club handled the whole Kurz situation. For mine, overall he is not a better coach than Kurz, and I even say that as someone who wasn't a huge fan of Kurz either.

+xAre Adelaide fans happy with Verbeek? Or is it a case of you get what you pay for squad wise? I like some aspects about Verbeek but don’t like others. I like that he will give youth a chance and i do like attacking football but having said that I don’t think he handles himself when talking to the press well (The comments about Kitto for example) and I think his attacking football is very kamikaze-esque at times. Looking at the squad, mid table is where we deserve to be. It’s such a shame as I genuinely think this squad could challenge had Isaías and Goodwin been replaced.

The club was looking for a 6 but failed to sign one as they were committed to wasting a visa spot on Yongbin Chen. They are very fortunate that D’Arrigo has turned out to be a gun. He has bailed them out big time.

He is a miserable grump who never smiles, and doesn't endear himself to many people.
As for team selections, anybody could it, given Adelaide's limited squad.
Although D'Arrigo is very promising, he is too young and inexperienced to give the back four the kind of cover that Isias provided. And of course lack of effective centre forward is his biggest problem.

https://indaily.com.au/sport/manton-st-tales/2020/07/16/yet-again-australian-soccer-is-in-a-spot-of-bother/Did fans like this winning emblem/logo design? not that AU will change. I think it would either look too big on the shirt or would be too small of a bird. Dont mind the one under on right in article. I could look better as a Hotspurs style. Imo should be yellow on shirt though. nothing wrong with keeping current design either.

I don’t but I don’t like the current one either. I like the one Dailyozfootball made tbh (the one on the left). https://twitter.com/adelaideunited/status/1267705054951206912?s=21

(I meant not yellow. You aren’t Liverpool) were there many with Red Kangaroo instead of bird? you are the only team in the state in AL but not a state team.

I don’t think there were many if any with a kangaroo on them tbh. AU are basically a state team. The piping shrike is even on the back of the kit and has been for a few years.

D'Arrigo is very talented. Verbeek played his defenders WAY too high up, the opposing attackers would often get past and have open spaces in behind AU's defence. It was a flawed defensive system. Hope Veart has more common sense.

Good move. Hopefully more clubs follow suit. Hopefully that helps to improve the team as the results haven’t been great through the years.

So apparently Mileusnic went to Denmark on a free bc Veart apparently didn’t want him. Source: https://twitter.com/aufcnews/status/1316339532841713672?s=21This is a real surprise tbh, it’s not like we have anyone else already at the club who can fill his boots and there aren’t many decent Australian players available either.

Veart must have some faith in the young wingers coming through, Mileusnic has been starting 11 for a number of seasons now with his speed being essential to many goal scoring opportunities. I guess now or never for him to try overseas.

Nikola was the one they obviously chose to allow to walk and find another club.

Yeah he gave Pac and Brook game time at the end of last season so he must rate them although I think we desperately need another winger to replace Nikola tho.
