Sorry Bowds, too early - the coach has only just started to work out who is going to fit the system he wants.

I'd say this, just because of his versatility, I was VERY impressed with Cirio, Carrusca and Watson last night, Watson could do an Adam Hughes if he continues that form.

Yeah, have to say since, Watson has had this haircut he's like a different person, no joke it's the hardest i've ever seen him work EVER. I think Gombau has got him by the short and curlys by saying if you don't perform you're OUT the door.
Still does his stupid, "receive the ball and turn in a circle before passing it off" sometimes but he's about 250% better then he was last season (which was pretty crap). He always got into good attacking positions in the past but his finishing is still atrocious (Zadkovitchesque even). Just needs to keep the ball low and hard and at least force a save.

It is hard to do with just 3 outfielders on the bench, but I was trying to cover all areas of the field with the three players, although perhaps having Malik cover the defense is a bit wide of the mark. I wonder whether Malik and Watson are similar players and we would need a more winger type on the bench. Also having a quick player on the bench could be quite handy to test tiring defenses. I rate Malik so would have him ahead of Watson on the bench but maybe it could go the other way. Carrusca is class, he will be brilliant this year. I hope Cirio is good as well, if he and Ferreira can make the wings their own and score goals from there we can have an excellent season. Jeronimo looks to be in good goal scoring form and I am sure he also will be better in his second year. Exciting attacking players.

The way Mabil has been utilised during this pre season I will not be surprised if he's going to be utilised off the bench against tiring defences, and that goal he scored the other day was an absolute cracker that wouldn't have been out of place in the EPL let alone the A-League. He still needs to beef up a bit but he's already twice the player he was last season, an exciting prospect for the future i'd say.

Some of the other teams fans are going to get a rude awakening when they actually get to see Adelaide playing this style rather than the past few years.
If the team can gel and play this style well watch out. Against Cumberland and Croydon we played a good passing style, under pressure i.e. vs Metrostars we kind of defaulted back to the old kick it long style though. Hopefully we can drill the team in the offseason so they can play tiki taka style vs tougher opponents. i Don't know which game you were watching? Metro had one chance the whole game and took it! AU had about 70% possession!

Also Gombau has only just started tactics training so what has been seen in the early games may not completely reflect how Adelaide will play during the season.

We have a good squad no excuses this season really the only excuse we could possibly make is new coach new style. The class in the team is definite there.
I think Golec with be a starter this season has everything to become one of the best CBs in the a-league.
Cant wait for the new season to start.
We playing Perth home first this time or away again ?

For large portions of the Metrostars game we were simply playing it long to either Ferreira or Mabil to recieve.

For those of you like me that can't go out to trial games: http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/video/41656387933/Adelaide-United-thump-local-side-Croydon-KingsWe look like a different team as you all say but as Josep says, we need to get a lot better to be able to do that against A-league teams. Oh and Carrusca's touches =p~

Fyfe gone ? ive been told a few Cbs were told they could look elsewhere because of how many we have. Want to make a few more signings but cant until we sell a few. I think Boogs can still be going.

Not sure if Boogard is going but apparently there was some interest from Newcastle as he's from there, we are looking for another LB though, has to be a local, apparently he want's to play Golec as CB not LB.

Getting rid of Boogard as well as Fyfe would mean we have 3 CBs and Gombau said he wants 4 CBs. Not sure how that would work unless we get another CB.

We have a few Cbs in the youth team that would be close to stepping up if they are good enough. I guess that is what Gombau has to decide.
