Feel a bit jaded about the thing, never got to really celebrate it. Even if they present it on Friday night it won't get more than a boisterous round of applause. Apparently won't be presented on Friday night at Amor's request. Seriously? Good on him. I respect this man more and more every week. No doubting it's a massive achievement but a trophy presentation BEFORE a knock out semi final match is ridiculous and nothing but a distraction. Yeah according to Ray Gatt the FFA wanted the presentation Friday night, the club wanted it at the open training session on Saturday so this is the happy medium. Agree that it's ridiculous, hated that in our first season we had to be presented before our semi against the Roar and had to make do with a salad plate in Newcastle for when we actually won the trophy. I knew that had happened before!!!! Also, Saturday's open training session would have been perfect. No idea why they couldn't make that happen DeBohun wanted his photo op and he was too hung over after hanging out with Roary's Mane  If it helps, DG was there as well.

This is my 100th post here - so cool it's the day after we've won the final.
I've been an AU fan since the 2007/08 season. I'm also an Arsenal fan so I'm used to disappointment! But here's my view on Adelaide.
Since Gombau arrived, I've noticed a gradual improvement in the skills of our players. Players like Elrich and Goodwin who struggled for game time at their previous clubs improved and blossomed under Gombau and his coaching team. So have some of the younger players and the older ones. Look how Mabil progressed when he was given the opportunity.
I've noticed that our players look a lot more confident on the ball under pressure than they used to. I see opposition players put the ball out for a corner or a throw-in when they're under pressure, but I see the AU players try and work the ball out of danger.
Our players seem to have much improved ball control skills - watch how they control some of those cross-field passes with their feet or chest. The quick passing has been a pleasure to watch.
Gombau talked about the team as a 'project' that would take time to gel. He brought a vision to the club that I felt was missing before. And while the team were wonky in the early stages of that initial Gombau season, you could see there were changes. Finally we had a style of playing that was good to watch.
Gombau also rarely talked about individual players, preferring to be 'so satisfied with the team'.
Once Amor took over, the focus remained on the team, not individuals. And the players seem to buy into this. And while this season was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, the team delivered. And Amor remained patient. Remember that game where Mells and Elsey struggled? Amor's comment at the press conference about Mells was "he's only 18". For a young player, that must be an incredibly reassuring thing to hear.
And Adelaide to me, used to lack the killer instinct. When you look at Berisha and MV, they can be three goals down with ten minutes left, and you'll never discount the possibility of them winning. But AU used to look shaky when under pressure and would win games by one goal that perhaps they should have won by more. But watching the semi against Melbourne City was interesting. Once the City goal was scored, we look a little shaky, but then went on the offensive and eventually scored two more goals. Same yesterday - once that WSW goal was scored the team re-grouped, defended well, absorbed the pressure and slowly got back into the game, allowing Sanchez to score. I'm not confident an AU from a few years ago could have done that.
Looking to the future, I see Adelaide become a team that players want to join. If you're a younger player looking to improve, why wouldn't you want to learn from Amor and the AU coaching staff? Look at how the existing players have developed over the past few years. And if you're wanting to move to Europe, why would you think that Melbourne City's City Group connections will help you any more than Amor's overseas connections?
I think we're well-placed now for future success. Players will come and go, but what Amor is building seems to be bigger than any individual players. Hopefully he'll stick around for a few more years and put in place a strong culture and style of play. The challenge for the board is to work on a succession plan so that when Amor leaves, we have a competent replacement. Perhaps Amor has a coaching 'friend' at Barca who wants to come here and observe and then become the technical director.
Anyway, it's great to see AU have a successful season and to see some of the players who've been around for a while enjoy the success.
To finish off, my favourite Gombau-ism - "In this moment, I am so satisfied with the team."

I enjoyed and agreed with everything you wrote but this did make me smile. My partner made the comment after the game to me that she knew she wasn't fully appreciating the magnitude of the win as people poured out of the stadium still chanting and after watching me go off my rocker for two hours with elation and anger and every other emotion between. She loved it but could see on the faces around her just how special it was. For those of us that have been through all the highs and a hell of a lot of lows (think Coolen's team losing to Gold Coast in front of 6k people booing) over the years that was a truly special day. I will never forget that. Ever.

Points deduction, WSW win the plate. I think you'll find that it's a suspended deduction at the very worst, the Wanderers should get at least -3 though. Edited by Someguy: 2/5/2016 01:11:38 PM

I was shouting so hard after Pablo's goal I started to lose blood to my extremities and probably would have fainted if I went any longer  Absolutely unbelievable feeling. I know Davide mentioned the Coolen GC loss as a low but the last big low we had was when Kossie walked out mid-season and we had Cassio and Galekovic coming out publicly in the media about how much of a mess it was. We really were at a crossroads then. Credit to Petrillo for believing in Gombau and convincing the board. Edited by mcjules: 2/5/2016 02:19:33 PM

Have the Adelaide players taken a dump through the dunny seat yet? :?
Is it comfortable, or cold to the touch?

So so happy! What a day!
Was dreaming of this moment since our first season in the last year of the NSL. Been so close, so many times.
The outpouring of emotion and relief was incredible. The primal scream I had when Pablo scored has left me with no voice!
So happy! Congrats to the team, the staff, the supporters. So happy!
