From Fox Sports :

Canterbury have taken Cook Islands international Reubenn Rennie on a train-and-trial contract.

The 24-year-old centre has been with the Bulldogs’ new feeder club, Mounties, for the last few seasons.

He has scored 36 tries in 83 NSW Cup games over the last five seasons.

I sure he has played reserve grade for us before.

From memory a solid player in attack and defence. Reserve grade games are not always a high standard, but I don't remember him being a liability.

I hope the movements are related. It does make sense that they are. I agree however that it is odd that an announcement hasn’t been made if that was the case.

It is frustrating that we let Smith go and seem to have nothing in return. I always rated him as our best winger and at times our best back.

JAC is a smokescreen for Cam Smith

Not sure if it was crap bowling, poor field placement or good hitting.

Not sure.....
I think Kohli and co were abit slow given the run rate. It was risky leaving 76 runs off 36 balls.
I know it's not impossible in these days of T20, but I felt they left alot for those last 2 to do.
Still, he was good enough to keep strike and finish it with 3 balls to spare....

Maybe we are getting Smith from the Storm cheese Smith.

According to the Telecrap he is being shopped around.

If anyone knows of a drunk in a bar making the same claim, that would give the story some credability.

The Cheese would be great for our club, starting hooker JMK or Wakeham coming off the bench...

Cheese is a better middle forward than he’ll ever be a DH. Unless he’s moving for back rower money, to play back row, don’t bother.

A player who's first instinct is to run from dummy half and pass on other ocassions, has my full backing for hooker...

Oh and you think he does do you? When has he shown that effectively.

I’ll tell you, ONE game. A good game for NZ v Aus, and he’s never done it since playing DH. And even that ONE good game he’s played at DH, he plays every week better as a middle forward.

Filling in for C. Smith mid season, mediocre would be a kind description. The bloke’s got the worst pass from DH of all his peers and his “running” from DH is halved/quartered in effectiveness without a head of steam. He’s not quick, he’ not light on his feet, he’s not Damien Cook, all his running metres is from power.

You pay DH money for him, to play DH, you’ll be going back to Bellamy saying “This is not the cheese I ordered.” To which he’ll reply “Stiff cheese.”

He’ll never, ever be the cheese that monsters in the middle playing at DH.

The Cheese is a premiership winner. A very good hooker and perfect modern day middle forward. How much is he worth is the question. A million a season is what he will be asking for. And I don’t think he is worth that. Maybe a couple hundred k less. Who knows.

The R.Smith to Melbourne is now looking very interesting.

You need to factor in that JMK doesn't have it in attack and defence, and certainly not for 80.
Wakeham is a possible prospect but has limited experience in that position.

As a lock the Cheese is right up there with the best, we can always move him to lock when we have a better hooker.

But the big plus is he is a mad bastard, and he would take that description as a complement.

We would add a lot of energy, grit and leadership.
If there is a better hooker on the market they would be the priority.

Our next top class hooker is probably in the lower grades.

We need to run with what we can get.

If the Warriors are interested they might be favourites to sign him, maybe Manly, I can't see too many serious contenders.

All very good plan, move him to lock when this when that. But always ends with move him to lock doesn’t it.

BUT, this bloke is asking for #9 money, spine money. And somebody is going to be stupid enough to offer him it. Tigers are likely to go close to a $mill, like they always do.  Do you think we should compete against that money to eventually move him to lock?

I’d offer him lock money tomorrow, elite lock money, but that’s where he’s gonna play and there won’t be another cent more.

Paying someone like him 1M wouldnt exactly send us into a SC mess.

He's a multi premiership winner and as you say, he can play multiple positions other than hooker.

But we need him at hooker just as NSW needed Andrew John's at hooker while Kimmorley needed to be in the team at half.

Get him for 3 years. It's not as bad investment as you  think, and that's how other clubs will see it

Money wise we just need to balance the books.

There is no better #9 that we can sign for spine money, however the cap needs to be managed professionally.

He offers a lot we don't have.

In any case the Storm will want a player swap that suits them and doesn't suit us. Storm are smart either they win on the deal or they keep the Cheese.

What we should ask ourselves is, if the Storm are prepared to swap for the Cheese and they will win on the deal, why are we swapping. It has to be a swap we can live with and be happy about in 2 years time.

They are not swapping Remis Smith for the Cheese, Smith was what happened last time we tried to swap.

So thow a line in the water and if we hook a white pointer, don't try to land it.

Desperate gambles on quick fixes are what the Tigers do.

Imagine after watching the absolute shit dished up from our dummy halves ever since Ennis left in 2014 and not wanting to throw the fucking bank at Brandon Smith? Yes not $1m a year but I'd be more than happy for a player like him to get $7-800 if that's what it takes. He will compliment our halves and fire up our forward pack.
