+x+xSo much hate for something that has so much merit, A new club for the A League. I hope they have a cracker of a season and put the haters well and truly back in their boxes. And, for what it's worth, I think they are going to be very competitive from the get go. +x+x+xSo much hate for something that has so much merit, A new club for the A League. Well I hope they put metrics on this new club as 4k crowds are not needed. Joke of a expansion should have been Canberra. You make this statement on the basis if next to zero knowledge of the bids. But I agree that the question of where the supporters are going to come from is a real worry. hmmmm 900,000 plus in the western suburbs of Melbourne. The right marketing, stadium finished in 2-3 years and half decent results on the park and I can see 10 to 12 k crowds in a few years time. Westies are a different breed once they believe it's theirs the own it.

"In a statement released by the club on Tuesday, they reveal the design has been inspired by the aerial view of real estate development (rooftops) in Australia’s fastest growing corridor"
So inspiration for their identity is from cheap, crap, ill-considered, cookie cutter housing built for maximum profit at minimal expense? No wonder the logo is awful and resembles something from a bogan energy drink company

I don’t have a problem with it tbh, just stating that’s where the link between the two comes from.

+xPretty sure one of the directors at Probuild is also on the Western Utd board. Anthony Zinni or someone like that I’m pretty sure. Very common occurrence. Most of the FFA sponsorships came through that way too.

+xApparently they already have the contract. Maybe the sponsorship was a bit of contra on the contract, nothing wrong with that if so. yep, they appointed Probuild as the stadium designer and builder many moons ago. makes sense that they're a major sponsor.

+x+x+x+xThe western United guys have been loitering around the local clubs in geelong, was at drysdale a few weeks ago, horvat rocked up stood around and left. They've got no hope, geelong is victory with a pretty decent drop of city, they aren't going to convert people or bring in new people just by existing. Quite frankly its been pretty piss poor. It's been piss poor from day 1 - they'll be playing in front of Gold Coast United size crowds, which they'll supplement by having a 'home derby' against the Victory at docklands in an effort to get their crowd average somewhat near 7k. I'm down in ocean grove way every Monday and there hasnt been any talk about wu from the old soccer heads down on site. Most are speaking about mv and city and au People in Ocean Grove are really talking about AU? That has long been my hope that the reds gain traction in Western Vic, I'm always on the recruit.. great news. Still really hoping WU's home games v AU will be in Ballarat, they'll get lots of reds fans on the road I reckon. If they're having games in Ballarat, that would be the sensible opponent to have there.

A rare example where the sponsor actually adds to the kit in my opinion. Home kit looks great and I actually dig the away kit.

Looks like WU will be having a roadshow this month at Geelong (Kardinia Park), Ballarat (Morshead Park) and Hoppers Crossing (at a shopping centre).
With 100 days to go, good to see they are stepping up their game, but do think they have been too slow on engaging to a level that would have strengthened their base.
Good luck to them. We really do need them to be a success as another failed expansion would certainly not help us much.

+x+xYeah, surely it is like The Southern Expansion bid playing games at Wollongong, except that Wollongong is a fucking great football stadium and Geelong is an AFL stadium. i have never been to WIN stadium, but I have been told that its old and tired and in need of an upgrade. +xPre budget they pushed for funding Sayers road station - I am lead to believe they got nothing from the budget for the station. no money in the new financial year. hopefully next year. the state government have just announced 3 level crossing removals in the region, so hopefully this train station is next to be announced. +xI swear there was a rumour WU was going to play against Leeds United guess it’s not happening no its not. it was too late in the planning. +xI'm picking no more than 3000 unless they sign a serious marquee. prepare to be surprised then. Those are 3 major flyover rail crossings going on (Lots of $ and more than 12 mths of projects?) https://www.facebook.com/levelcrossings/videos/328657308037153/

+xIf WU get more than 5k members in the first few seasons I'll be stunned. I hope to be proven wrong, but I just can't see it happening. Kardinia is just a graveyard for football. The only way I can see them getting those sort of numbers is If they come out swinging and somehow manage to win the double two years on the trot.
