@Mono: any info on Christos Intzidis? Wiki says he played for you guys in 2018, he's reportedly signed in the Malaysian Premier League [2nd tier] for the 2021 season.

Hey PIFA, yeah Intzidis was a big centre back, brought in from Greece 2nd division, played the full year with us from memory, as replacement for Eagar. Strong in the air, comfortable on the ball and decent distribution although a couple of howlers cost us some stupid goals. We had poor season and shipped in a ton but couldnt settle on a goalkeeper (let alone coach) after Roganovic left, Bray did his shoulder in the first round and Tyson was a flop... so not entirely Christaras fault he was a bit of a fan favourite at the start of the season from what I remember. I heard he went back to Greece after us but not 100% sure.

The club he's supposedly signed for hasn't announced it yet, and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out if he does end up there. They're under new management, but their recent years have been... tumultuous to put it nicely.

Was very intrigued to hear that we've signed Thomas Manos from Sydney United, because honestly: Cakarun is a fantastic young goalkeeper. I'm looking forward to the start of the season, just to see all the new faces in action, and I was shocked to hear Jurkovic say that he expects us to be "contenders." Not getting my hopes up regardless!
Also, Kelantan FA announced Christos Intzidis as their latest signing yesterday. Hope things work out for him, but that club is notorious for shenanigans in recent years.

I hope MK has a decent season mate, you've had a couple of shockers. I haven't heard anything yet about this latest lockdown affecting the start of the season but have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that we are going to get shafted again.....

Part of me wishes that we could've had Ljubo for one more season before he called it a day. Honestly one of the best CB's the country has produced in the last 30 years, it's such a shame the way that it ended for him. Regarding us this season, everyone seems to be suggesting a complete change to our style of play, so that's probably what excites me the most tbh. The way Munro had us playing was disgusting really, so it'll be nice to watch a team that is actually interested in playing football and not just lumping it. Fingers crossed the lockdown isn't extended, and preparations can continue!

The derby has changed venue as OV is not yet up to scratch - I drove past two days ago and they were still forming up the concourse and walkways so fair enough but I guess the Bergers will be disappointed at losing the chance of a decent crowd at their opening. I hear Jack Edwards may be capped at 2.5k so better get in early as this could be quite a decent crowd.... https://mobile.twitter.com/smfc/status/1364427535879049217

Season kicks off tomorrow night! We've got Port Melbourne away, and I'm hopeful of a good showing to instill a bit of confidence that it won't be a repeat of years gone by. Looking forward to seeing all the new signings, especially our international players, as I just don't know too much about them. Was shocked to read in Joey Lynch's season preview that Kenny Athiu knocked back offers in NPL Victoria to head to Cambodia to resume his career, but best of luck to him. If he can bang some goals in, a move to Thailand or Vietnam is extremely possible.

Hopefully the boys from Shepp give NPL 2 a good crack, apparently we've recruited very well in the off-season, we've recruited some familiar faces who played locally in the BASL for a few seasons. Also brought in Sean Pye who has been a brilliant player for Murray United over the years. Hopefully these additions will help our youngsters thrive, in particular watch out for Brandon Giaccherini, he went toe to toe with Garang Kuol in scoring goals in under-age football and made his debut in the seniors as a 15 year old in 2019.

It's the best :D I get a lot more enjoyment out of watching NPL, purely because I feel a lot more of a connection to the club that I support. That being said, I don't hold it against any fans of an A-League franchise either, as I just want football in the country to be the best it can possibly be! Was Daniel Heffernan at Shepp years back too? I've always been quite impressed by Craig Carley, think he went to Hume a few years back and looked quite unstoppable.

Thats correct, Heffernan actually played for Shepparton SC when he came to Aus, which back then was in the NESL (now apart of BASL), then went on to sign for Heidelberg where he scored goals for fun, then subsequently joined CCM then back to GVS. Craig is a local legend around these parts, such a nice bloke and everywhere he went he scored goals, also does lots of good stuff behind the scenes for the younger guys coming through at the Suns.

Thailand you need a fair bit of technical skill, so he might struggle there imo.

It's quite a smart move on his behalf, as he should be able to score plenty in Cambodia after only 4 goals in 51 appearances for Victory. In short, if he can't score in Cambodia: a career back in the NPL is the best he can hope for. If he scores enough, I've no doubt a Vietnamese club will take him on trial, because it's athleticism and your "look" that they tend to go for: not your actual ability. In Thailand, the best he could hope for would be a mid-table or below Thai League 2 team, and he'd need to score plenty of goals there to get a look at from a club higher up the table or possibly in Thai League 1.
