Mate check out some eastern European derby's for exactly this....  I've seen Red Star vs Partisan at the "Marakana" and Panathinaikos vs Olym-pussy-acos at both Leoforos and Olympic Stadium countless times (before they banned away fans) ...holy shit the hatred and violence is real.  Rivalries are developed over differences, whether they are religious, social, political what have you... Catholic vs Proddy or Slumdogs vs Millionaires  works in Scotland and Argentina but here in Australia we went with "the distance derby" and the "f3" derby tra la la la la

Yep, I have read about some of them but never been.  I should have gone as a young bloke in my twenties but in my fifties now so too old to run the gauntlet and possibly get a kicking by mistake! And yep, we went too far in sanitising our game here and the irony of erasing ‘the wogs’ from football in a country that has gone fully woke in every other regard and seems to embrace every other aspect of multiculturalism is not lost on me. But let’s not derail this thread, which is about Ange and Celtic!

I love football books and have too many! They sit neatly on the shelves with all
my history and politics books. Anyway, i ordered “Inside the Divide: One City Two Teams The Old Firm” by Richard Wilson, published 2012 from the Book Depository for $24.55 with free postage.

Thank you for the information/heelp, I'll definitely check it out.  Once again thank you 🙂

Yeah I was in my 20s and thought the atmosphere was just spectacular. 60 thousand people jumping up and down in rhythm so much so that the actual, stadium was moving under our feet..... smoke, flares, bottles, mini dynamite, coins, just scary and amazing.  Thats out of my system now and happy, in my mid 40s to visit Celtic Park with my lad and not sit with the Green Brigade, just enough to be there and watch from the sides.......

I’m super hyped for tonight’s match. It’s the single biggest game of football for an Australian manager ever in my opinion.

It’s probably been asked already, but how do you get to see the match without Foxtel, Stan or Optus?

Thinking on it and I don't think you're wrong.

Pretty exciting stuff.

I was pretty damn critical of Ange during his time at the national team. But I do think he does have the skills and the ability to make something special at Celtic.

Going to be a fun watch tonight and hopefully a great result for him and Celtic!

While our defence is what it is, I'm not 100% confident of getting a win, though I hope my fears will be proven wrong.

Anyways, my pre-game ritual has already started. Tunes are playing, and the Guinness is going down nicely, nerves are slowly starting to get a wee bit under control also (only for them to rise again come kick-off). 🍀🇮🇪🇳🇬🍀

Whilst I agree with you/your statement 100% (though I am extremely biased), are you and those who agreed with you saying in yours and their opinion that this game/fixture is BIGGER than the Asian Cup Final(s) Australia played, or even a World Cup match??

As I said, I agree with your statement, for me it is one of, if not the biggest game/fixture PERIOD!!, But as I also said I am biased when it comes to this topic. Having a neutral making and/or agreeing to such a statement caught me off guard somewhat.

Taking the Socceroos all around Asia, with all the hostility, in particular the stifling conditions, and the journey qualifying and competing in the World Cup are miles ahead of playing a domestic match against Glasgow Rangers..lol.
Infact, Celtic's Euro Group G matches coming up are bigger than the Celtic v Rangers match.

(1) Taking the Socceroos all around Asia, with all the hostility, in particular the stifling conditions, and the journey qualifying and competing in the World Cup are miles ahead of playing a dometsic match against Glasgow Rangers..lol.

(2) Infact, Celtic's Euro Group G matches coming up are bigger than the Celtic v Rangers match.

Regarding (1) – While I don't agree with you, I do respect and can understand your point of view.

As for point (2) – Respectfully, I'm going to say you are completely wrong here. Playing (and beating) the other lot is a much bigger match and occasion than any Europa League match. Yes those matches are extremely important to play and win, but they don't even come close to that of the derby.

In the last 6 league games with Rangers Celtic has 4 losses, one draw and one win. That win was in the 2019/20 season.

Although one game doesn’t define a season a loss by Rangers would possibly be more significant than one to Celtic because they would be sweating on winning the league this year and banking the huge prize money that will go with it by direct qualification to the group stages of the Champions League.

Rangers have been technically insolvent for years. They only survive because of significant capital injections from benefactors. Winning the league would ease their financial worries. Celtic does not have those concerns.

So this is an important game tonight for the huns. Hopefully the Ange factor will win out.

While financially we are sound, and we aren't anywhere in the troubles as those of the other lot, we need that direct qualification to the 'Group Stage'. (1) So we can get the £30mil - £40mil that comes with qualifying for the 'Group Stage' (while denying the Huns the money at the same time). (2) To bypass all those early qualifying rounds that always cause us trouble. (3) Means we have won the league.

Despite the ofttimes deserved flak the board ccps from the fans they have been fiscally responsible, unlike those in charge at Ibrox.

Hopefully Ange can deliver. To win the league this season will be a massive achievement. If we score first tonight, despite our shaky defence,  it is going to be a hard road back for Rangers.

A win tonight puts us 3 points clear of them. Given the Huns recent form I am hopefully confident.

I wonder if a Celtic win will draw out another mindless comment from Lennon.

I'd argue the 2nd leg of the ACL final in Saudi is bigger too.

Still, pumped to see how this one plays out.

Coaching the national team kinda doesn’t count in a way because of course we as a nation are going to keep hiring Aussie coaches and backing them.

Tonight’s game is in a whole different category as Ange earned this opportunity despite his Australian nationality, not because of it.

Surely we're able to split club vs international football. Easily the biggest occasion so far for a club manager from Australia.

How is it they can ban away fans? Is that a Scottish thing or just when these 2 teams play.
