+xIts not just about player identification. Its about having a robust domestic competition, the larger the better. We suffer domestically in that we don't have enough games in our National League, we have VISA players taking key positions on the field, we don't have enough clubs in our 1st Division and we don't have a NSD. We then don't have the players pushing on to the big five leagues, at the biggest clubs This flows on to the MNT, and I can see the same issue into the medium term with the WNT. fark I was embarrassed enough watching us get ripped during Ange game at WC's/quali's and imo arnold is suffering just the same and any other coach would - the cattle. Said it elsewhere, many of you have too much ambition over the talent. roosty's possible list of 7 is like lists we've seen before. Our one and only top player mind you a benchy at Club is Ryan. The rest are average. Until you guys accept we have a nucleus of players playing or knocking on the door in top leagues the struggle shall remain. Read Arthurs posts, facts are facts. You all should be screaming for the NSD, break down APL barriers, get our NPL sorted for the better, breed the up and comers so many more lights can see the end of the tunnel to playing in our local top flight with a robust NSD Championship style league...... Re cycle and repeat, were back again same ol same ol.

When we fail to qualify for Qatar and Arnold is sacked. I hope the Sydney Football Mafia are happy with the part they played in Ange leaving and Arnold getting the gig. Our next coach must come from Europe.

Well that was completely un-expectable, not only we didnt beat a poor China side off a VAR pen but we didnt look like scoring apart from putting 1000 crosses that we put in and 1 worked off which came in the first half.
Let's be honest apart from the lack player quality which we known, we have a manager who at this is tactically inept at this level its clear the teams have now worked us out in how ArnieBall is played and we dropping points but also our performance are regressing which is deeply more worrying. Its not like Arnie could select Ninkovic, Adrian Majeweski, Bobo and Holosko he has to use Australian passport players instead!
I think Football Australia have to a make a big call here, do they back him in and hopefully we get there somehow or do they pull the trigger and sack him and appoint a new manager and give him a remit of not only qualifying for the World Cup but also given him enough time to prepare for a new team?
Personally I know I would do but we are in a delicate spot with Oman behind us for that 3rd spot as well so they have to a decision pretty soon given our next game is in January.
Oh boy...

Don't like Arnold, but don't think there is much he can do, the squad is just too average. No foreign coach will fix it either. We are where we essentially belong.....pre golden generation. Golden Generation has set high expectations which we will struggle to meet the next couple of decades.

I personally attribute much of the poor performance to lack of friendlies. There was 1 friendly played in the entire 2019+2020+2021 and you cannot entirely blame it on covid. How are you supposed to build team dynamics and assess players' form in international games without playing against stronger oppositions as a team.
How much of the decision to not play friendlies is down to the head coach vs FA?

As much as it pains me to say I really hope for the overall sake of the game in this country, we do not qualify for the 2022 World Cup. If we do qualify, not only will it give undue credence to the current set up and selection process there will be the very real risk of embarrassing results when we get there. Not qualifying will give the FA the necessary kick up the pants and the impetus to make changes to the system and suitable plans for the next World Cup. I honestly believe that if there is any time to miss a World Cup, now is that time. I have been following Australian football for over 45 years and I have never been less enthused by a Socerroos team as this one.

May have been better than Irvine. Felt Jeggo was ok other than the handball. I reckon Atkinson needs to be given a go. Would provide so much more going forward.

Point being is the way they are going they are not going to get better unless the performances start to improve, we have gotten worse since the Japan game. This is the worrying part.

Major problem Football Australia have is their business model relies on the Roos making the World Cup, but that model is clearly no sustainable anymore and the lack of investment in youth development and our pathways is paying the price for the current team. The fruits of the labour is always what you do within your backyard, could apply this to business success/failure as well.

Is there even enough football nous (as in understanding the game itself, not the politics in the game) in FA to even realise the team is performing poorly? Who in FA are the football gurus? Do we still have a Technical Director and other technical people, if so who are they?

I've backed Arnie pretty much the whole way, but as soon as I saw the same frign team named last night, he lost my support. You can't keep doing the same thing & expect a different outcome!!! Every man & his dog could see that a shack up was required.

The stupidity of it all is insane.

+x+x+x+x[quote]How many points did we have at this stage last qualification cycle? Last time at this stage SA 13 Japan 13 Aus 10 The KSA game n Adelaide was the catch up which then the Saudi loss vs UAE kept us alive after our Japan loss.
Look I’m obviously super disappointed with that performance so I’m not trying to blindly defend Arnie here but it must be acknowledged that currently he has secured us more points than Ange did at this stage. However because it’s on trend to be an Arnie hater, all you hear is people saying ‘Arnie out’ from the same people who like to change history about Ange’s ability as a national team coach. Sorry but this is the sort of whatabboutisms that drive me nuts in politics. Not to mention there were PLENTY of people sticking the boot into Ange as well I mean, he quit in the end because of it aha This. Ange had his faults but he only quit because of the toxic relationship with the ffa and the foxsports mafia who wanted their mate in. Weird how slater is awfully quiet about it. But was taking to Twitter on ange in 2017

The pen we conceded last night was from a hopeful high ball into the mixer which we failed to defend properly.
For a team that is reputed on physical and aerial abilities it was just bloody embarrassing.

Ange was pundit on Fox Sports prior to signing with Brisbane Roar and was treated like an absolute god until results started going pear shaped in qualifying. It's also a bit hard to compare then to now re. Robbie Slater. I mean isn't he out of a job? I haven't him say anything about anything lately (not that I care about his opinion).

That's a very good point the lack of a full-time TD is really hurting us, after all who is evaluating the performances and selection of this team? The National TD has been a poised chalice role since Han Berger left in 2014 and the way FFA(Now FA) have handled this has been really poor, put it this way a real football country their national TD would have an important role not only for the senior team but also from all the way down the system. This must be a priority for James Johnson and give him a hands on role in not only fixing our problems with player development but also making the national team coach accountable for what he does.

most football fans, who actually know something about football said he was a shit manager when we made him head coach again. The worst part is Bielsa wanted the Socceroos job prior to joining Leeds and we signed up GA which is evidance that the people who run the FA/FFA have zero clue what they are doing. I actually think we will miss the next world cup we look like absolute shit in the final 1/3 missing Qatar would be terrible for the code becuz the timezone for viewing games might actually not be terrible for casual fans to view the games. Ga is a shit manager, he has failed everywhere he has gone bar in the AL (domestically) which doesnt mean much.... We are getting what we deserve
these Kangaroos can play football - Ange P. (Intercontinental WC Play-offs 2017)

Can someone explain why not a couple of the olyroos players who did well in the tournament couple months ago can't make our starting 11 I can't see who from the socceroos would be better beside ,Mooy ,Rogic and Boyle. Also why did we have a system and played some nice football at times there , yet we can't at senior level.

Most agree The players just aren’t the best we would hope for. So therefore we need a real smart tactical coach who can analyse the opposition before and during the game. Cleary to all that is not Arnie.
His body Language and all this silly walking up and down the sideline when he should be absolutely concentrated on analysing where it’s working and where it’s not working for us...and them should be his main priority.
Instead he is walking up and down the sideline, screaming at players, chewing his fingernails and snarling at officials and players.
I am totally over him. We need an intelligent smart tactical coach because it’s about putting players together from all over and coming up with something that gives us the best chances. Totally different to a club coach.
Sorry Arnie, you’ve got to go.
