There are currently 264 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 48 people in intensive care, 20 of whom require ventilation.
NSW has recorded 537 COVID-19 related deaths since 16 June 2021 and 593 in total since the start of the pandemic.

Some interesting vaxxed vs unvaxxed stats from NSW Health in this article, with the data taken from the worst part of the NSW outbreak:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-08/nsw-health-data-reveals-protection-covid-19-vaccine-gives/100603470

10 times less likely to be infected

16 times less likely to die if you are vaccinated.

All fully vaxxed deaths were either in aged care or had serious co-morbidities.

Please explain

No more masks indoors once they hit 80% FIRST dose in a few days.
Only on planes and in airports from memory as they are federally mandated

https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/singapore-will-stop-free-treatment-of-unvaccinated-covid-patients-20211109-p597d3.html

The Singaporean government will no longer cover the medical costs of people “unvaccinated by choice”, who account for the bulk of remaining new COVID-19 cases and hospitalisations in the city-state.

“Currently, unvaccinated persons make up a sizeable majority of those who require intensive inpatient care, and disproportionately contribute to the strain on our healthcare resources,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

FMD Morrison pisses with the wind.

Comes out against vaccine mandates - at a press conference that he has mandated vaccines. Plus he has them for international borders ffs

Sooking about social media and politicians getting their feelings hurt one week, next week sides with anti-vaxxers wanting to execute the Victorian premier.

Wondering what people's thoughts are on this - not sure if it's the same in all States.

Once we open borders etc at 80%, if you are a contact you still have to quarantine 7 days if you are double vaxxed. This realisation is only just starting to filter down to friends of mine etc.

The govt. claims they will be more sensible about who is considered a contact so i can only hope beyond hope that means that if you just happen to be in the same supermarket as someone that had it you WON'T have to quarantine for a week.

If it's just close contacts like ppl in your household then it could be ok I guess.

On a similar note, basically everyone I know that isn't on a safe salaried job has stopped checking in places because they are so scared of having to not work for 2 weeks just because some idiot in the same Westfield Plaza had covid. Though they will have to also use cash or they will have their credit numbers traced apparently so it probably won't work

I can't say I blame them really. The aren't conspiracy guys and are all double vaxxed and level headed people that just can't lose more work.

If double vaxxxed and you return a negative test I dont think you should quarantine, but I understand it.
I reckon a negative test at 1 and 5 days should be enough.

yeah, I don't check in ever. For a few reasons, but one being I don't want to quarantine for two weeks because some bloke 20 metres away ordered a coffee

The position in NSW is if you are a close contact, you will be contacted by NSW Health and told to stay isolated. The updated guidance is to lower the wait period to 7 days and get a test immediately, with another on day 6. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/advice-for-contacts.aspx

I've been to Westfields and a few cafes/shops where it was flagged as having a positive case. I just got a message on my Services NSW app and was told to 'minor for symptoms', no phone call, so we just continue about our day. I know some people have been getting a test to be cautious but still move about (which also makes sense).

Hopefully that will be the case for you in SA too. It's a shame that people are avoiding the check in. I think it's a good tool for monitoring but the Government really needs to provide comfort/guidance on self isolation.

yeah that's literally why so many people are stopping now.
It's not just  the "govt wants to know what I do" crowd anymore so it's gonna get interesting.

Though my friend who is generally well informed did say they check the shop's bank statements for credit card numbers to assist tracing now.

Have not had that verified but he isn't generally a shit talker. Not saying that's good or bad, just saying it might not help in the end

I can confirm that's true.  The government are able to trace where you've made transactions and they've utilised this in contacting attendees at exposure sites in South Australia where they were safely ushered into hotel quarantine.  Its a good thing too as people avoiding checking in could potentially create an untrackable outbreak which could have tragic consequences.

Qld fuckers, as usual.

Even if you're double vaxxed (which we all are) you need to take a test ($145/person) within 3 days of travelling before you can cross the border.

My lad now lives at the Goldy and we can't visit him unless we stump on near $300. ($600 if we all go.)

Exactly why are we all getting vaccinated Anna?

Should have to show your vax cert at the border and then over you go.

The problem is there are still too many unvaxxed in that region which can slip through the cracks making these measures necessary for now.

Don't care mate. They've had their chance. I, and millions of people like me, have done the right thing now I'm meant to pay $145 to get a test to prove I'm -ve before I can step foot in that stupid woman's state.

I'll add that if the risk is unvaccinated people, then maybe put that requirement on them? If you have your double dose and proof of it, just show that and move on.

yes we've done our bit of heavy lifting

its time for the anti-vaxxer freeloaders to pay up

the ICUs are filling up with these people, we really need to construct dedicated separate facilities for them so the rest of us can access hospital services as normal prior to the pandemic

I like how this would mean they are wrong legally as well (we don't have a 14th amendment).
